Hi, Im Alex, im a knife maker and TH-camr, based out of southern Pennsylvania and my youtube channel is Outdoors55. This channel started as an outdoor backpacking channel, but quickly grew into a knife/ knife making channel. Everything I do on my channel is family friendly. I primarily focus on knife / knife making videos but occasionally throw in something different. Thank you for watching!😀

I think you’d like the fallkniven dc4. A sword guy turned me onto them - they’re really small but the sharpening they put out is absurd. I’ve actually sharpened a sword with one and it came out great.

So while i like the non voice over, I do like it with captions kind of like Andy Rawls does his videos. But with that said... doing the follow up with voice and answering questions is brilliant. Im just some guy so its only my opinion.
Also, I do like the way you aren't afraid of using your own opinion of why you do things the way you do without feeling like you need to justify why you do it.
    Good luck. Love the videos.

  • @Ingeb91

Gotta love super steels if you want a camping beater that's lighter than a mora basic. If I'm going out into a relatively dry area, and I don't really want to carry alot of steel, I go for the basic. The basic just never leaves my kit. I add on a robust or a stainless mora, depending on the moisture I'm expecting. I like cheap knives. If I have to chuck 3 moras in a 20 year period, that's still less than a real knife would cost. Reason I don't call it a real knife is because of the handle. It's ergonomic, I just can't replace it as you said. Anyway, great video.

I actually really like doing the "rock pattern" with a course belt for the deep scratches, followed by sanding the high spots up to 800 grit and polishing. The deep scratches provide a lot of grip, while the handle still looks shiny and pretty.

My computer mouse weighs 10g more then that haha. Would love to see how this thing holds up edge retention wise and if it's actually comfortable for camping tasks. As usual amazing work. Glad to see the place quenching working out.

Dude this is so damn cool. We use cheap ass low carbon bearing steel at work and heat treat batches for around 30-60 min in gigantic truck sized ovens. We clamp temper some stuff too and we oil quench and salt quench. I work in a metallurgical lab and check for hardness initially. We do break tests and check shepherd grain. We cut up small pieces and mount them and look at them under high pressure digital microscopes to check for no decarb, and good grain structure and proper case depth measurement on specific parts. Im no metallurgist but steel and heat treat fascinates me. It was cool to see how much harder it is to heat treat 3v vs just a standard shit low alloy. Very cool man! Sorry for ramblin..

I'll tell ya, personally, the only reason to finish under the handle isn't for weight, it's for piece of mind, even if ya know no one will ever see it, we know it's there... I use to try different things in the packet, from Argon to paper & there really isn't any difference... Still love the countersink idea... I got a woodworkers vise to hold the aluminium plates, which leaves your hands free for the air... Carbon Fiber is awesome, but make sure you are covered head to toe, because it will eat you up, and i use to build houses & had no problem with fiber insulation.... Hope all is well, take it easy...
