Im buying the slats pre-made and looking to add the LED lights separately but I've seen people suggest that you use a diffuser so that the light is spread out evenly. I can't figure out how I'd control the lights on both sides of the pannel using the same control since I'd need to use two different strips. What you've done looks nice!
The pre-made slats look great in my opinion and I kind of wish I added a diffuser to the LEDs. I image there's a company that makes separate LEDs that you can control with the same control and thank you for the kind words! Best of luck on your build!
Difusser must be there! Looks 100% better. I want to light up one of the panels between photo wallpaper and white wall so i think i put first some wooden strips between panel and the wall, making some space there, than led strip behind in 45 degree diffuser pointing more to the wall than straight to the side. That way i think light should be better spread through the wall and not in my eyes when i will sit next to it.

Nice build. I'm doing the same for my video backdrop. I'll probably just buy pre cut MDF and paint. I don't all the fancy wood working tools lol.
MDF is definitely a good option too!

Splice the two strips together before wiring to the controller, should control both the same that way
