    Roland is due for a new flagship module. With the mimic pro and strata prime available, they need to level up.

    • @fallko76
      @fallko76 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      They don't :-) mimic too expensive and too unavailable. While Strata sounds better, people still will buy roland due to better and more reliable pads. Roland knows this very well, they will wait till last moment and then they will release something better, maybe finally something without machine gunning but still will not be available to load custom velocity layers.

    Roland really should design their new module with a bigger, interactive screen. They also should really upgrade their file system (the way you save or load backups, kits etc.) - it's pre-DOS.

      Let’s be objective… who needs big displays with Roland’s-forever-crappy-sounds?
      Would rather prefer a calculator of a module but stunning realistic highly dynamic sounds. By this moment there’s a bunch of people online arguing about getting strata instead.

    Flagships are interesting because of the economic climate. Not a ton of disposable income is floating around right now for the hobbyist drummers to get the latest and greatest, and you have lots of small to mid-tier bands struggling to turn any sort of profit from touring. Not sure who the market is at this point for a $7 - $10 kit, especially if they already have something like the TD-50 or another brands flagship. And besides, what else could be put in a kit now that is not pure marketing?

    • @ericstearns170
      @ericstearns170 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is the biggie right now. While the economy is recovering, the amount of disposable cash for the average consumer is at a low point. Part of the reason for the volatility.

    • @listener84
      @listener84 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The market is churches and education, music houses. It’s a worthy investment for them to get their stage volume down in a way that doesn’t ruin the experience of the drummer, causing them to disengage. Those markets are strong. Hobbyist drummers come in a diverse range of income, from literally playing on buckets to lawyers that keep a kit at home, and it’s gonna be nice.

    Justin, I think you've overlooked one thing that I believe gives Roland the impetus to release a new flagship model when it does, and that is when they have something that is so innovative and revolutionary that it sets a new benchmark. When the TD-50 was first released, it came with three digital inputs but only two digital instruments, the snare drum and ride cymbal. I KNEW the hi-hat couldn't be too far behind, but I was surprised that they upgraded the module to the TD-50X when they released the digital hi-hat, plus released the TD-27 which also utilized the three digital instruments. (Side note: I tried to buy the hi-hats when they were first released, but because of the pandemic and supply-chain issues from chip manufacturers, it took me a whole year to actually receive them.) But in addition, there were so many variations of set-ups released with the TD-50 including custom hardware options. They also had the wood shells available in Black finish, and also offered packages to just buy the digital snare and ride cymbal with a TD-50 module. I think there was also a package with digital hi-hats bundled with the TD=27 module, and then they also released the TD-50X with options for wood shells in four different colors. The three modules gave so many different set-up options that it was possible to create a custom configuration that was unique and individual. So now, the question becomes, what else would you want in your kit? The digital hi-hat made sense, but a digital bass drum? Not so much! So what would make ME, for example, spend another $7500 - $10,000+ on a new kit when my current kit is already state-of-the-art? Well, about the only thing I can think of is making an electronic kit as easy to set up for a gig as an acoustic kit. Wireless is about the only way I can think of to achieve that. Connecting my pads to my module takes a lot of time, but a wireless version that just automatically connected everything when turned on would be so much faster. That would require a complete replacement of my kit, with not only a new controller module but also all new pads. When I got my TD-50 kit, I added the cymbal pads from my TD-30KV kit, but none of my current pads would work with a wireless controller. If I were a working drummer, I would probably buy a wireless kit as soon as it became available. Other than that, I wouldn't feel any particular need to replace my current wired flagship custom kit.

    I realize I’m off subject and a bit of an outlier, but I spent small dollars on a Yamaha TCS pad kit base model and having owned several Roland kit’s including the TD-30, I’d be hard pressed to give up the excellent Yamaha sounds and TCS pads for a Roland kit. Yes the Roland’s look great but I’m only using this kit for practice. Full disclosure, I cheated and swapped out the Kick with a Pearl 18”x12” and put everything on my Gibraltar chrome rack, so it looks great. Bottom line for me though is the amazing drum sounds coming through my Sennheiser NC headphones and the feel of those TCS pads. To each their own though.

    As an EU VAD706 owner due to the massive price drop... I love it. But the Module feels ancient for sure! It's still very powerful, very logical. But from a UI perspective, I can see the drawbacks that other models are tackling like Zildjian, Strata, Gewa. Everyone loves touch screen and easy UI's these days, Roland UI almost requires a Udemy course to get true value out of it lol. They have some really powerful tech that others don't have like digital hi-hat/ride/snare but they lack positional sensing toms, 3 zone cymbals and a modern UI module and some other fancy gimmicks other companies might be doing. Has to be a new line coming but I think you make a good point about DWe breathing room. Can't even see them on sale in Europe at the minute and maybe that's what is coming out next. Can still buy Roland TD-50KV2's in EU for 6699-7499EUR so they still have flagship models available. It is actually insane to me that the VAD706 is cheaper than TD-50KV2, I know you get the extra tom pad but outside of that.... VAD kicks it's ass :D
    Good video man, even though I've bought my kit and won't be upgrading for a long time, I find all edrum news so awesome! Be interesting to see how well Zildjian can compete with DWe.

      @@azizfilhonah man that’s ridiculous, I have the mini in my office and have had just about every flagship model other that Gewa, these things are the best triggering edrums I’ve ever played. Super dynamic, super accurate and musical. I was floored when I got to play them and am every time I sit down to play. The hi hats are equal to my Roland VH-14D. I bought the mini because my church returned its DWe (the cymbals were too loud and felt horrible) and then they bought the EFNOTE PRO 703. Efnote’s H14 hi hats were better than my VH-14D so I pulled the trigger on the mini. I’ve now ordered the PRO 700 and am going to augment it with the mini. Efnote is doing things people aren’t even aware of yet, but it’s insane how everything they make works with everything they make, all of it.

Bottom line, though: The majority of drummers don't have $7-10k to drop on a high-end ekit. I still play TD50x and it's still one of the best modules, snappy, responsive, super customizable. Interface sucks and I wish you could build your kits on a Mac or pc and upload them to your module faster. OR a mobile app on iPad ? software in my mind is where the innovation is, and I'm not talking DWe or VST software, I'm talking module. I feel the Zildjian Alchem-e seems to have done a nice job there with big screen, etc... as do a few other like Alesis Prime. old school monochromatic LCD screens the size of a stamp suck. However I'd maybe like to see ROLAND take the DWe wireless take too though the digital pads are still best in class and I personally don't mind cables all that much in the end once setup. it just works and I could maybe keep my shells and just upgrade module should they update soon.

    Out of all these flagship modules there are only 2.5 that allow importing multi velocity samples. They are the Mimic Pro & 2Box this including rebanded Drumit modules(ddums, Kat & Fame) and Yamaha for the half because they have it but have not enough memory for it. Roland, Gewa, Alesis need to offer importing sample with a memory of at least 64G or preferable 128G but best would be 256G. Computers with VST can crash mid gig but a module loaded with VST and/or own samples won't crash. Professional drummers needed more choices than these 2.5 modules that allow importing their samples when playing there big shows.

    Does anyone else see this as just an incredibly dysfunctional market? Like one drops $5k+ on a flagship e-drum kit and there's no incremental upgrade path? You're just expected to buy the next highend thing if you want improvements. Lots of competitors and nothing that actually really goes toe to toe with Roland on flat out getting the job done. Nobody, with the possible exception of Zildjian, nails cymbals. Modules that are priced like expensive computers with very little expansion and relatively little ability to apply a next generation module to a prev gen drum kit. I don't see how this works well for anyone except Roland. For a great venue kit, one wants something like DWe or Sensory Percussion plus Zildjian's cymbal setup, preferably going into a low-latency module with a well established setup for a drummer to load their own kits and special sounds/effects when they get there.

    No more fake plastic overly processed sounds give us sound at least as good as the prime sound wise the last 2 generations of Roland did not do it for me but you know me Justin I like the live raw unprocessed atv style samples, even on the mimic I’m using the atv styled kits they later released but I’m I different breed that’s not gonna be most people I covered a kiss tune that’s got a drum solo in it on my channel if you’re bored or you wanna make fun of my getto setup lol 😂 th-cam.com/video/hCR0_79pZpw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tPvL2JVNK_Yk9COV

    I played one in a band. I didnt care for it. I hated the cymbal sounds. And the triggering. We had to send one cymbal to be replaced. Not a fan.

    roland is overpriced you're better off with buying a cheap shell pack something like a mapex and buying drum Tech Groove bars triggers or even Jobecky triggers if you want something a little bit cheaper. I would recommend a Roland KDA 22 for your bass drum Roland symbols are fine lemon symbols are fine but I don't think buying the full roland kit is worth the price

      This is a Toyota vs Lamborghini type conversation. Not a single person needs a Lambo, it's just fun if you can afford it. Most people, myself included are better off with the cheaper option. As for the Drumtec groove bar, I like it and use one inside my own snare drum. But Drumtec does hold back their very best triggers for the Drumtec Pro 3 shell packs. So even they want you to spend a mountain of money for the best of what they can offer.

    Roland is probably buying Zildjian. I have no knowledge of this, but if they did that they'd have the best of everything. Roland cymbals have always been their weak spot.
