2:07 It helps if the starmetal meteor is smoking. Something changed in the 3.0 update which reduced the smoke. This is affected by the "Graphical Effects" quality setting. "Ultra" works best and does not appear to affect FPS, in my experience. *Edit:* Just found out that a subsequent patch removed the smoke effect entirely. So the previously mentioned _fix_ no longer works but the "smokeless meteor" bug _is fixed,_ the FunCom way.
Great guide as usual. I wondered about the smoke from the star metal nodes. I recently got a new puter/video card and though it was a settings issue on my end. Glad to know that it's not just me.
It's not a case of the smoke "not showing up", it has been actually removed by the devs, though it's still a question whether they did it as a result of some internal miscommunication or something, but the action itself seems pretty targeted and deliberate. Maybe they'll add it back in the next patch though, we'll see!
One of my favorite build locations is on a cliff to the North East of the mounds, just below the snow line. You can watch the meteors and see if they fall deep into the north or just along the ridge. Then just run up, grab the nodes. I would do this as soon as I logged in and usually once more before I logged out. Then, it's great to trade with others for more supplies so I don't have to leave the area just to harvest. I saw a few locations that I didn't realize they would fall in you video. I have seen it in other areas farther north and west, but rarely.
I like to take poison gas arrows along because sometimes the starmetal nodes are bugged and don't break open. Sometimes gassing the node and hitting that with the explosive arrows will be enough to crack it open. Also if you're using the Pippi mod on a co-op/solo game, in admin mode you can use /meteor to call down the starmetal in the mounds of the dead and up north. If you're desperate you can do /meteor and it'll call one to anywhere on the map, but I suggest being out in the open if you do that, and NOT in your base.
Lol thanks for this. I was literally going up there shooting random rocks with explosive arrow😂. I had no idea you actually have to wait for them to fall from the sky (I play solo)
I usually use "Detect Resources" spell then ride horse around in Frostneedle Forest to find it. Star Metal will show purple (easier to see if in evening). so much monster to run around
I built a small base on the cliffs near the obelisk where I watch for the meteor showers. With star metal, and now black blood, picks I get a good amount from each meteor. The base has a map room for easy travel back to my main base. I miss the smoke; now I have to watch for the strikes and scout around for the meteors.
Star Metal meteors not coming. Also, when converting cimerians in the Wheel Of Pain, after conversion they have lost their Star Metal weapon and only basic clothes. Singleplayer. No idea how I should get Star Metal then. EDIT: farming Cimerians is a good method,in 90% of the cases they drop a star metal weapon. i build 3 lesser wheels of pains near their mound and a map room. farming takes some time but it is ok, better than the meteors which i never found.
Easiest way I've found to get starmetal is to farm world bosses and dismantle all the legendary weapons that aren't very good. I had stacks of starmetal bars before I could even make steel by just farming the big crocodile by my base on noob river.
yep, pretty much this...if you get the better dismantling bench from the new Journey system, you get a whopping 12 star metal bars from a single weapon.
Can alrernatively buy said legendary weaps from the khitan merchant if you have spare coins. Considering one sorc alive is 11 coins or so, its basicly 2 weaps every 3 sorcs Anyways, just adding more methods to the list
@@Angelovizk skulkers end has 3 sorcerers, but it also has something like 20-25 angry darfari too. There is one off to the left by a sacrificial table that a brand new character can climb to and not risk pulling any extras and safely farm some skulls this way, at least until you get a decent weapon.
OK I just tried to dismantle a legendary weapon and I forgot I tried this but you can NO LONGER dismantle legendary weapons. Unless my dismantling bench is broken lol
Oil Orb + Demon Fire Orb is cheap, but a lot to carry. I take with me a T3 Bearer who's also an excellent Tank for the pesky Sabertooths. No smoke == painful, especially for folks who do not play on Ultra and/or have impaired vision (in RL). And definitely fewer drops and hard to find on Official.
When I go for Star Metal in solo Exiled Lands map I used to run back and forward between Frost Temple up in the north all the way to edges of Mounds of The Dead smashing every rock and iron ore I could find on that mountain trail. Since this hardheaded grind is time consuming when I got finally down South Star Metal started allready falling down. So this was my combined smelting operation and outcome of this was production of star metal and iron bars as well as bricks. Usually I was sacraficing entire day for this not quitting the game untill I was stacked up to the roof. Unfortunatley further I went into solo Exiled Lands more often game would freeze and crash resulting in gameplay time loss. Loosing all that hard earned rock, iron ore and star metal ore and meteorites is really depressing. 3.0 totally broke the game and freeze crashing started occuring so often it was extremely hard to spawn in start metal meteorites in solo. I quess best way to get star metal is to yea like wak said hang arround Mounds of The Dead. You can simply milk Witch Hunter event that happening there combined with thrall hunting [I'm still horny to get that Cimmerian T4 female Dancer as well as Dalinsia Snowhunter]. Just keep simple bow and exploding arrows on you all the time and you will get some star metal ore eventually with Magi skulls cherry on top of it. For so long I was using Gas and Oil Orbs combined with Fire Orbs, but exploding arrows are lazy boy friendly.
Hi wak. Thanks for another great video. It was just earlier today that I started a new play through. Only play on solo. I headed up north with a steel pick only to get a very unpleasant surprise and found on forums afterwards that you need a T4+ tool to harvest star metal. I actually watched your video when it was upgraded, but I'm writing not because I think that the "chance to spawn a meteor shower" is still active. It used to be every 15 minutes but it definitely wasn't 100%. Now I've been waiting for about an hour and I didn't get any meteors. So I think the 30 minute interval isn't a sure thing Also you could make another video in purges. My base should be legible for a other, it definitely has more than 42ish foundations if I recall correctly, but the other meter is full for several hours now and still no purge started.
What's my favorite gathering method for star metal? On Siptah it's easy enough to find and you can hear the meteor fall from just about everywhere on the map. Only have to deal with the undead in the area. On EL, my favorite method is Admin Panel.

Acheronian picks were changed to T3 with Chapter 2 (possibly not on purpose as the harvesting power stayed the same), however as such they do not harvest Star Metal now. And.. you forgot to mention there's now a mod on the workshop that solves the star metal issue in single player / crowded servers by fast forwarding the waiting time if there ate 5 or less nodes on the map :P (and also adds the smoke back)
honestly most of the Star Metal bars I get are from just farming the four world croc bosses in the CE map and dismantling the item. Never needed to harvest it at all.
Teleport to the Mounds. Park my butt by the Outcasts campfire. Play on my phone until the meteors fall. Harvest whatever falls on the ridge. Takes about an 30-40 minutes of logging in to single player before the meteors arrive.
The summoning place event sometimes spawns enemies with star metal weapons that can be broken down, i have stacks of the stuff and have never harvested it raw
The best early game armor for the cold is the fiber clothes. It has better cold resistance than most armors in the game even without a helmet. Only some epic armors beat it.
No they are not, and they rarely spawn since 3.0, I never saw any meteror fall and I spent a lot of time there. Sometimes you find a few ore here and there but absolutely not as much as before. And as they don't smoke when they fall in the forest it's very hard to find them.
Hey just wanted to give a tip, if you have a deconstruction bench/ improved deconstruction bench, you can throw looted armor and star metal weapons in there. I went through accursed base at tower and killed everyone took all their stuff home and got like 120 star metal bars. I level thralls and harvest good stuff this way.
I just learned this if you don't want to wait for the meteor or tame the level 1 thralls go to the Black Galleon caravan there is a merchant that sells the Eye of the Khan Bow for 15 and when dismantled to goes for 2 star metal bars

Did the developers recently put out a fix for the previously(?) bugged outer shell of Starmetal? Every time I've went after the stuff, there'd be like a 50/50 chance it breaks on the first explosion...or like the fourth. Sometimes the outer shell wouldn't even break at all, either. I just ask, because the footage shows Wak not having this problem a single time
I think they must have because i have harvested plenty over the last few months and they crack open every time first hit i always use explosive arrows so not sure if that makes a difference.
Those were all fresh spawns. Star metal has had a sorted history of being able to be broken open on one hit. If you run across any that don’t break with one explosion I recommend leaving it. It’s likely bugged. If it’s in the mesh if a harvestable rock you should destroy the rock first. If after 2 explosions it won’t break then it likely never will and it needs to respawn.
What were you using to break the shell? I've not seen an arrow fail, but I have heard there is some kind of hitbox issue with orbs sometimes not working.
@@dndhatcher Demon-fire orbs, typically paired with gaseous orbs for a bigger explosion (not that it makes a difference if they're bugged. Some flat out used to not break.) But I've seen older videos from 2-3 years ago where even explosive arrows wouldn't break them open. So I can only assume a recent-ish patch fixed it
@@wak4863 If bringing 5 to 10 demon fire orbs to the star metal area is an issue for you then you're gonna have a much bigger one ahead, harvesting and bringing the ore back to your base. Demon-fire orbs weight 4 each and a full stack of star metal ore weights 13 so you do the math. Demon fire orbs are also cheap enough that what you bring up north and do not use can be dropped on the ground easy for more inventory space. Best to use that imho.
Usually one arrow is enough, sometime there is a bug but most of the time one arrow will suffice. And when your ore is stuck in the middle of a high wall, hitting it with an orb is not that easy.
I actually find explosive arrows way cheaper to make, because volatile glands are so rare, while demon blood is so common. In chapter 2 it's raining steelfire, too. 2 demon blood for 10 arrows vs 50 volatile glands for 10 fire orbs.
@@keitolainen7459 Really depends too how long you wait in a typical playthrough of the game to go after Starmetal. Hostile Exile mobs have a chance of dropping orbs of all kinds, and their chests can contain both the orbs and the glands. This of course being outside of getting the glands off the red imps and salamanders. I always have enough orbs for a good session of starmetal hunting by the time I get headed up to that part of the map
In that video he did mention that he was going to take a step back from making Conan content. But he would still make some content if he felt there was a need for it
I was producing 3 videos a week for Conan Exiles. I’m down to about one a week. But the real message from that video was that I won’t make content about the bazaar items or the battle pass unless something changes.
Takes a few runs of the warmaker sanctuary to gather the materials, but the champion's armor learned there makes you pretty much impervious to temperature.

black blood tools can't be crafted, they drop from the Children of Jhill bosses. obsidian you lean in the final volcano boss (last pureblood serpentman), once learned you can make obsidian weps and tools at home. black ice tools and weps are made in the Temple of Frost forge, they can't be made at home and after the Age of War update all black ice weps and tools suck anyway.
On xbox the archonian is not work. I get nothing i did multiple 3 different times. I don't know if its glitched or not. I found a video stating that it takes a tier 4 pick. It worked with the tier 4. I used the blackblood.
I think I've seen the meteors come down once, but I've never actually found a landing site. All my star metal has been gotten from dismantling. I had an outpost right next to stargazers crest and those two usually had star metal weapons
its a shame star metal is pretty much a complete waste to go after. you can get better weapons/shields from the skeleton key chests (which can be opened at any level if you can get a key.. and getting a key is not that hard), black blood tools are better than star metal ones, and dragonbone and black ice arrows are better than star metal ones.. star metal is just pointless to farm anymore.
@@DRAE.444 its easier to get weapons from skeleton key chests, the best katana (on the exiled lands) is from said skeleton key. great axe scythe of thag. you can skip silent legion armor and just use epic heavy to farm godbreaker or champion armor. only valid reason is the upgrades but once you have your gear upgraded you dont need it unless you lose the upgraded gear (i suppose if you wanted to use the star metal gear for illusion thats another valid option but probably too much work for a cosmetic)
@@darcraven01 Hmm, slightly debatable I guess :) The katana in question is 1 damage and 1 armor penetration point higher than the star metal crafted with a bladesmith, but significantly harder to obtain, the star metal great axe when crafted with the same bladesmith actually has a massive 10 damage points over the scythe of thag and ofc the DLC versions like you already pointed out also use it. I do agree that it's a shame that it's been outclassed by other "less alien" materials, however there's another factor that you didn't mention :) Some people might simply enjoy it! For example I kinda like going up north on EL and doing a star metal hunting trip, even thou it's just a farming trip, it usually always has some unforseen adventure

I always run max expertise for beast of burden so carry weight isn’t a thing

I've seen them fall but I noticed that they don't smoke for me.
I play on console and was hunting a couple of days ago, I saw smoke on the ones in mounds.
Use explosive arrows to crack them.. then you get 10 nodes per dragon powder and avoid the awkward task of placing jars

Demon-Fire orbs are MUCH cheaper than explosive arrows and take only one orb to break.
They're so heavy though.

Demon fire orbs are also cheap enough that what you bring up north and do not use can be dropped on the ground easy for more inventory space. Best to use that imho.
Usually one arrow is enough, sometime there is a bug but most of the time one arrow will suffice. And when your ore is stuck in the middle of a high wall, hitting it with an orb is not that easy.
I actually find explosive arrows way cheaper to make, because volatile glands are so rare, while demon blood is so common. In chapter 2 it's raining steelfire, too. 2 demon blood for 10 arrows vs 50 volatile glands for 10 fire orbs.
@@keitolainen7459 Really depends too how long you wait in a typical playthrough of the game to go after Starmetal. Hostile Exile mobs have a chance of dropping orbs of all kinds, and their chests can contain both the orbs and the glands. This of course being outside of getting the glands off the red imps and salamanders. I always have enough orbs for a good session of starmetal hunting by the time I get headed up to that part of the map

The Vanir Legendary Armor seems to help with the cold
Takes a few runs of the warmaker sanctuary to gather the materials, but the champion's armor learned there makes you pretty much impervious to temperature.
I used to have to shoot them with a poison arrow and then explosive arrow to open them, I'm gonna have to try the single explosive arrow cause that will be a little cheaper.
Can alrernatively buy the legendary weaps from the khitan merchant if you have spare coins.
Considering one sorc alive is 11 coins, you can basicly get 2 weaps every 3 sorcs.

@@EnlightenTheMC Nope, those aren't mods. Both black blood and obsidian are materials in the game. You should use Google more, dude.
black blood tools can't be crafted, they drop from the Children of Jhill bosses. obsidian you lean in the final volcano boss (last pureblood serpentman), once learned you can make obsidian weps and tools at home. black ice tools and weps are made in the Temple of Frost forge, they can't be made at home and after the Age of War update all black ice weps and tools suck anyway.
can someone help me get starmetal for exile lands
On xbox the archonian is not work. I get nothing i did multiple 3 different times. I don't know if its glitched or not. I found a video stating that it takes a tier 4 pick. It worked with the tier 4. I used the blackblood.
Acheronian may be bugged.
Check the response by Xevyr. Acheronian was changed in CH2. We dont know if it was an accident or not but they havent fixed it yet.
I think I've seen the meteors come down once, but I've never actually found a landing site.
All my star metal has been gotten from dismantling. I had an outpost right next to stargazers crest and those two usually had star metal weapons

its a shame star metal is pretty much a complete waste to go after. you can get better weapons/shields from the skeleton key chests (which can be opened at any level if you can get a key.. and getting a key is not that hard), black blood tools are better than star metal ones, and dragonbone and black ice arrows are better than star metal ones.. star metal is just pointless to farm anymore.

Ez to get, cheap to make weapons with, only real choice for katana or great axe. Needed for silent legion armor and tool and weapon upgrades.
@@DRAE.444 its easier to get weapons from skeleton key chests, the best katana (on the exiled lands) is from said skeleton key. great axe scythe of thag. you can skip silent legion armor and just use epic heavy to farm godbreaker or champion armor. only valid reason is the upgrades but once you have your gear upgraded you dont need it unless you lose the upgraded gear (i suppose if you wanted to use the star metal gear for illusion thats another valid option but probably too much work for a cosmetic)
@@darcraven01 Hmm, slightly debatable I guess :) The katana in question is 1 damage and 1 armor penetration point higher than the star metal crafted with a bladesmith, but significantly harder to obtain, the star metal great axe when crafted with the same bladesmith actually has a massive 10 damage points over the scythe of thag and ofc the DLC versions like you already pointed out also use it.
I do agree that it's a shame that it's been outclassed by other "less alien" materials, however there's another factor that you didn't mention :) Some people might simply enjoy it! For example I kinda like going up north on EL and doing a star metal hunting trip, even thou it's just a farming trip, it usually always has some unforseen adventure
