In Gasoline Direct Injection or GDI engine, gasoline is injected straight into the combustion chamber of the cylinder, as opposed to multipoint Port Fuel Injection or PFI, where fuel is injected into the intake manifold. GDI engines make for improvements in fuel economy and higher power output over PFI engines. This is achieved by precisely controlling the fuel quantity and the injection timing to the cylinders.
Depending on engine speed and load, GDI can have a few operational modes, such as:
Homogeneous stoichiometric mode or regular fuel injection as you all know it.
Homogeneous lean mode or lean burn.
Stratified mode or ultra lean on compression mode.
GDI fuel injectors open when the solenoid winding is actuated by a trigger current by generating a magnetic field that lifts the pintle. Therefore, the .... Get the whole story right here in this video... Enjoy...

That's a good analogy in your response. One thing to remember is that GDI injectors may use higher voltage that can potentially cause harm, so it's not as simple as using a normal NOID light or test light. Already tool companies are scrambling to make GDI diagnostic tools. For the most part a GMM or scope is still fine for GDI systems, but the training is what's different. Thanks for posting.

I have really enjoyed this series of training so far. I really appreciate all the information that is being covered. This way when I do see on of these cars for the first time i'll sound smart and will know better then to just stick my wrench in there and start monkeying around.

Hello adptraining i have question :
the defference between gdi and tsi engine
The gdi inject gasoline two times the 1st injection at the begining of compression stroke and the 2nd injection at spark ?
And tsi inject fuel at begining of intake stroke when the inlet valve opened ?
Please i need answer
