Listening to this man talk about the fears, the vulnerability and the pains of us as human beings and how to find a way to find out what is behind our anger, is so therapeutic.
The loneliness epidemic that affects the new generations, so true reflection. Alone in the crowd.
Very compassionate, simple and very open-minded man who does not try to convince anyone but simply wants to share his wisdom.
He is the kind of human being that makes the difference
I love this quote from his book No Time Like The Present: " Eternity is here, always alive in the present moment".
    Thanks Tim. Thanks Mr. Kornfield.

Hey Tim, you may want to invite Stephen Porgess to your show. He can teach you everything about regulating your autonomic nervous system eg with anxiety or hypervigilence. Or Deb Dana, or Galina Denzel. All three are super experts in this field and also very kind and compassionate people. Kind regards from the Netherlands.

Something about talking about spirituality and purpose grounds me and makes me feel complete and whole with the universe we all preside in.

(Or Sharon Salzburg). These are people with aeons of knowledge, who are trained to pass it on freely. Thanks Tim.

The universe is on time with this for me. I've been working on anger for years. I have had to work with some trauma that I experienced. Then I worked with a therapist on my stuck energy. I've been working on what I tell myself. Years worth of journals... I'm much better. I really would love to be considered by others and myself as gentle and kind and considerate. I'm falling less short of the mark every day.

Glad stumbled over this discussion ( especially on the last day of 2022 and start of 2023!)! Yes, as I got into meditation 30 years ago just after college, remember one of Jack’s books endorsed my inspiration in establishing the path!
Anger is another emotion, the defense mechanism and the worst, of all emotions ! Once your mindfulness gets established it pings you to pause and let go; or to ask my loved ones when they demonstrate agitation whether it is necessary to react. “Then as Jack said it calms them to a conversational tone immediately! It comes with practice for sure!
Yes. Tim was right we are seeing so many people with reacting angrily unnecessarily unlike any other times ever before! So many in service industries and making it a habit in American society sadly ! ( out of all the cultures)
Glad you are you tubing rather than iPod on invite as easy to access quickly here! It is great to raise awareness as responsible citizens!
    Wishing both a Blessed 2023!🎉

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful!!! Tim I like the way you expose your own questions and weaknesses. This way it helps myself and presume others. Jack makes it all clear in under two hours, some questions and issues I have battled for 65 years.
It's all wrapped up in: "what would love have me do today" not only for our fellow humans and animals, it includes cleaning, piled up dishes or the yard and loving/enjoying it. All the while staying focused in those actions, instead of focussing on lunch.

I had two out of body experiences on accident ! While laying down and I floated out of my body and was able to go down to my kitchen and see my mom cooking and my dad mowing the lawn. I snapped back into my body went downstairs and that’s exactly what was happening ! One thing I noticed when I got sucked back into my body I felt all the pain and suffering feeling of being in the body as I re entered . It was like a magnetic force pulling me back in but I wasn’t happy to come back

    • @eleanorwcarmany8922

Out-of-body experiences are interesting! Every year for several years I would make huge quantities of the best tasting eggnog with four kinds of liquors to serve guests over the holidays. I always made sure I had close to a gallon extra so I could enjoy 3-4 oz every morning. I absolutely loved the taste. After several years of this, one morning around April, I found myself practically galloping down the steps from the bedroom to get my little glass of eggnog when I suddenly found myself OUTSIDE OF MY BODY watching myself galloping down the steps with a sense of desperation for the eggnog. THAT REALLY WOKE ME UP!!! And just as suddenly, I was back in my body - just that fast! I (painfully) poured the remaining eggnog down the kitchen sink drain, rinsed the bottle with hot water... Ooh, that beautiful aroma! And never indulged like that again. That has to be at least 45 yrs ago! Now I can take a tiny taste but not really DRINK alcoholic beverages. I am ever thankful for that wake-up call.

Love Jack Gilbert and his poem that Jack Kornfield reads @ 1:18. FYI Linda Gregg was a good friend of his and took care of him at the end of life. Jack lived in poverty pretty much, escaped America for Greece and fell in love with life right at the moment he was getting some attention for his poetry.

I think anger on itself is difficult but not bad. I think a lot of the polarization people talk about is not touching on grief. Tim- Jack was/is one of my first metta meditation teachers. I recommend getting Francis Weller on to talk about what's underneath the anger and cynicism. He talks about the importance of witnessing collective grief.

I was raised with alcohol, porn and loads of violence/terror. My father, a child of war, was obsessed with fatal car wrecks and in the 60s, cars were veritable tanks, there were no seatbelts, and there was very little crowd control at accident scenes. Dad used to give late-night slide shows of his car crashes and describe in adjective-rich detail exactly what we were looking at. One photograph was of a mangled car in the background, in the foreground was a piece of blue fabric, a little towel or something, covering a bowling-ball sized object. "That's a head, my father explained. "When they pulled this woman's body from what was left of the back seat, her head fell off and rolled over here." He would get melancholy when he talked about the time he saw human brains on fire on the Bay Bridge, but he didn't have his camera with him. I was in elementary school. I used to see a woman's bloody head through the glass door in the oven. Her eyes were closed, but I was always terrified that they'd suddenly open and glare at me--

Apathy is The American Way, thanks to Business and Madison Ave. We are living in the United States of Apathy. I go to Mexico regularly to get away from it...but it's spread to other countries in a very short time. We've infected the entire world with our apathy and narcissism and I don't see any way to reverse it.

I want to ask a question, why many people avoid to call Peter Levine, or Kathy Kein, or Steven Therell, Laurence Heller? On a subject like anger(helathy agression) vs rage this people know a lot. Tha worse thing possible I belive is to stay imobilized or try to be nice when anger is present. There is a difference between healthy agression which is primar mamalian emotion( fight energy) and the suprresed anger that develops rage. And that is the thing that Peter Levine knows about a lot. I like to watch youre show and I have a lot of rage issues due to early developmental trauma, and tried to do a lot of stuff, when I was introduced to Somatic practicioners SEP, or even one woman that you could check out, her name is Irene Lyon, I didnt realize that imobility(freze) on high level of sympthatetic energy( fight- flee) causes anxiety to even get worse. It is like deep breath, chill out, sit and not move. Anger is one of the biggest energies to work on and it is hard work to do. Keep going do youre great work, and please consider to check out some of the SEP therapists.

    • @pco2004

Agree. Peter Levine, Irene Lyon are both highly insightful when it comes to somatic therapy and rage or other emotional charges. I believe psychedelic therapy combined with somatic work is key.

Drivenness of our culture, materialism etc.- yes. But the larger issue is a complete lack of spiritual grounding. The Judeo-Christian ethic and religious beliefs that deeply informed the entire Western heritage from late Roman times onward? has been ignored or washed away in a few generations. So we are unrooted and unmoored. The children and youth? feel the lack acutely. They seek to fill the void with tech and drugs and recreation or overwork…but nothing can fill the God-shaped hole.
We must rethink our values. Secular materialism is a howling void.

Tones of voice are at root of so much of the CPTSD I've been shedding lately. My narcissistic mother had so many of the right ideas, the right words even, when parenting me. Meditation etc has lead me to see this. For years I believed she'd gotten it all wrong with me. What I've discovered is that her tone of voice! Ei!! It just put me on the defensive, she sounded so disgusted, not warmly corrective, that I just could not hear her!!
