@@stumpy25lbs This was the last project before the snow fell. We live in a snowy climate. The snow is now mostly melted but the woods are still very wet. We're gearing up to start work, but trail building videos are delayed by 2-5 months. I want to have a project somewhat finished before posting.
Apparently I've watched enough Phil build videos I now comment to myself on the dirt he's harvesting from new dig holes...like, "ohhh, nice, he got a lot of the nice grey dirt there!".
Haha phew. I was worried about myself until I read this. We all do it. Haha I can think of worse things to be doing with our time than judging/guessing dirt types
I used to use my fancy full frame camera and extra angles for this stuff, but it was way too much work and not too mention those camera are fragile. These days i just use GoPros which are pretty dam simple and get a pretty good shot most of the time. As a result I'm less focused on the camera and more focused on the build.
Great stuff Phil, I really enjoy your videos. A tip for removing big stumps- when you stump the tree with your saw do it much higher like waste to head height so you get better leverage with the mini x. After breaking a few key roots I can sometimes get em to peel right over without much digging. Cheers!
Yeah, I wanted to maximize lumber yield from this tree but as you saw, i usually do that with trees if I'm not worried about that part. This stump ended up taking way longer than i expected.
Shame you don’t live closer to me in Pennsylvania I have a stump grinder sitting in my garage 😊 I had 15 stumps to do so I bought one it was cheaper then renting one over and over
This was a test to see how hard it'd be to take out a decent stump with my mini for future reference. All of this is just to gain experience. If I'm building trail in up on a hill, it's unlikely that'll have a stump grinder on hand :P
Found your channel the other day, a lot of nice vids here👍 I'd consider bury a stomp like that in some feature saving one or two days of work. 😊 But overall the terrain seems handy for trailbuild compared to where i live in Sweden. Great job man
Hi welcome! Yeah, In this situation, i needed a little more space for the turn, so the stump had to go, but in many other situations id probably do that.
Somehow titling the video "our trail is finally riable top to bottom, but its not quite done as we'll probably add a few features and need to refine a few things in the future" doesn't quite have the same ring to it...
The digger didn't like that stump... I'd of opted to drill a hole straight down the middle and set it alight 🔥 the more holes the faster it will burn 👌🏻 especially with a bit of fuel to persuade it 🤣
Dude, your videos have inspired me to make my own backyard trails myself, I’ve got only a couple dirt jumps and some technical trails but I’m recording the process and I’m hoping soon I can make videos like this on my channel 😅. Keep up the great work I love your videos!
I love watching anything construction related be it bike or not bike content. I'm running a 301.7cr which is just under 2 tons (1,790kg) hence the name 301.7.
Super cool series man! Excellent use of the space available. Will you be releasing more 301 content? Or any trail building content before the next digging season?
This was the last stuff i hadn't edited. I don't know what will be next. I might build features on the trail to spruce it up. I have plans to take the machine off my property this year and work on other stuff but that doesn't mean I'm not going to be building at here.
@@PhilsWorld Sounds pretty exciting, I've really been enjoying these videos you've been putting out. The start of the season hopefully isn't more than a month away now!
You're starting to look pretty comfortable and efficient in that machine, looking like a pro! How many hours you got in the seat? Ive been doing trail work a long time but, finally got my own mini within the last year and a half. I put about 500hrs in this past build season and it really does start come pretty quick with consistent seat time.
Things are started to pick up. I was just out a second ago and things have mostly thawed out but it's super mushy and that'll take a few weeks to dry up. It's a later start than last year, I think we were out building early March last spring, so we're about a whole month behind this year. That being our friend milled all that hemlock and which I picked last week. Just today I started a new project. Tomorrow I'm scouting a project in town, sometime later, I'll be bringing my machine to do some trail build pro-bono for our local VMBA chapter which I'm reallly excited about. It's a new trail system that will probably become a popular destination spot. Not sure when I'll start posting here again, but things are happening.
@@PhilsWorld I’m not looking to achieve anything was simply wondering if anyone does the same. I’ve watched plenty of your videos and end up clicking away for the same reason each time.
It sounds like my videos aren't for you which is fine; these videos are purposely slow and I really don't expect everyone to watch them. If you don't like something, just move, but there's no need to throw shade for no reason .
@@PhilsWorld If creating good enjoyable content is what you are looking to do then I wouldn’t take each comment that isn’t praising your video as throwing shade. Wasn’t trying to hurt your feelings your just hard to understand a lot of the time.

Never thought I would spend minutes watching a mangled stump get manipulated with an excavator lol. Thanks Phil!
dude if you built a bike park that would be sick!!!! Phil's world 2025
For a minute I thought there was another trail at Phil's World, Cortez, CO. I always enjoy your videos, thanks.
Awesome Awesome Creation!!!!
NICE...to be young again
awesome work /lifestyle mate ,,really enjoyed

like the way you dig 😊
Very cool, Phil. Looks like a blast. And even though I live in suburbia, I've always wanted a DR chipper.

hey fill quick tip if you run the revs hirer on the excavator you'll get like double the power
This is equivalent of telling somebody that pressing the gas pedal will make them go faster 😂
Back in my day, we just used dynamite...U peeps have it hard...

You could even say it stumped me
I use a car floor Jack to rip trucks out of the ground a 3 ton Jack would do the trick
Yeah, that's probably worth experimenting with. Not sure if that would have been enough here, this bugger was nestled in there

How do you like that Cat mini Excavator

Those Gators are very expensive I wonder if one of the honda or kawasaki utv would work better for mountain areas way better suspension
The 6x4 arent too bad especially if you buy them used which is what i did.
stump removal ..stick of dynamite ? lmao
39:28 - Are you going to build the lift here? 😜
Ha, I wish. I've thought about a rope tow for the winter but it's not pitched enough to make any sense.
