Thank God we have this on record. The interviews of the men was so wonderful. When I was a teenager, I got to attend one of the reunion celebrations at an Air Show. General Doolittle and all of the remaining men were there. There was a "meet and greet" afterwards. The men I spoke with, including the General, were just as humble as they are on this documentary. I always thank our vets or military people when I see one. Even bought a few a meal. What we owe them and their families is more than we could ever repay.
The Raiders met every year to commemorate the operation but, due to the age of the men and their dwindling numbers, 2013 was the last year of the reunion. Cole, the final surviving Raider, passed in 2019.
@@andrewrei6106 This year marked the 80th Anniversary of the raid. All I could think of on April 18th was that they were all together now. It is sad that there was no mention of the anniversary on the news or in any of the newspapers. We owe them so much.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...all of you...for your loyalty and commitment to defending this country and stopping what the Empire of Japan was doing at the time.
So many proud face looking at their heroes with love and admiration. And quite rightly so too, as these men were indeed remarkable. I think it's fair to say that what they achieved, as costly as it was, altered the course of the war.
@BB: Yes the affection the audience has for these gentlemen clearly seen & even felt; such is the, "connection" those of us so touched still, by these brave & humble aviators' story.
It,s an HONNOR just to listen to theses guys . I do have a question . Why would all the planes take off from the same spot ? The only thing I can think of is ; , the timing of the swells , to the deck of the carrier
The Soviets interned the crew of the 16th plane for 14 months!!! While we were sending critical supplies to help the Soviets defend against the nazis!!!
The Soviet Union and Japan had signed a non-aggression pact; Stalin didn't want to fight the Japanese and the Germans at the same time. Under international law and the Geneva Convention, enemy combatants were supposed to be interned and held in custody. The Japanese demanded that the airmen be delivered to Japan to be put on trial but the Soviets refused. They kept the Americans safe and kept them in good conditions.
In true Soviet fashion they also sent a bill to the United States for room and board for the 5 interned pilots. At the same time we were delivering $Millions$ in Lend Lease war supplies. Stalin believed that to show gratitude was a sign of weakness.
My father flew in the Pacific theater during WWII. He and these men would be sickened what’s happening in America in 2023. Our President is a world wide joke. Boys playing in girls sports and our Southern Border is being overrun and it’s allowed to happen. These men here would give their life for America and the Christian way of life. America as I know it is gone

And the crew was allowed to 'escape' to Iran. All arranged. You're right John F., they kept them safe.
