I learned about Diana Agron which was a first. I feel like she disappeared when reputation happened though. I was very busy that time in my life so I definitely missed some of the finer details and missed the concert 😢 Totally down for another 1989 video. This was the era that I fell in love with her.
even though being in those eras has “passed”, I would still love to see videos like this for lover, folklore, evermore, midnights, fearless (tv), red (tv), and as you said, the eras soon to come! it’s just nice having a little time capsule that explains so much cool and fun info about taylor during each era! even eras I was there to experience, I’d still watch/listen about them again!! 🤩
“the monsters turned out to be just trees” as a person with anxiety this lyric just HITS how when you anxious everything around you can feel and look different
The lyric “You forgive, you forget, but you never let it go.” Is just amazing. It really symbolizes how just because someone says sorry or you push it away from your mind doesn’t mean that it doesn’t still hurt and that you don’t still want revenge
"heartbreak is the national anthem we sing it proudly" explains her career and why she has so many fans. its a fact that a lot of people would like her to stop describing herself as a victim of men, I guess those people feel like being heartbroken is a weakness and they don't like to be reminded of their weakness and don't understand why she would talk about it to millions of people, but taylor takes pride in the vulnerability cause she knows love is always worth it, she's not afraid of pain, she knows it's a part of life and she even thinks it's kinda beautiful, thus "please leave me stranded, it's so romantic" and that's why it's my favorite 1989 song.
Ally...I actually have no words. You have such a gift with this. I know it's something that can be overlooked and not taken super seriously but you're actually so talented and the work and focus and deep knowledge it takes to make videos like this is amazing. You're my hero 🫶
Also, feeling brave. Album ranking (changes day by day and I love all these albums deeply): 1. Midnights 2. evermore 3. reputation 4. Fearless TV 5. Red TV 6. folklore 7. 1989 8. Speak Now TV 9. Lover 10. Debut
My favorite lyric from 1989 is “one night he wakes, strange look on his face pauses and says, you’re my best friend and you knew what it was, he is in love.” It’s my favorite because whenever I hear the line it always reminds me that love isn’t just saying “I love you” being in love with someone can be interpreted by other sayings. Like if you are too scared or don’t know how to express yourself. But you just know. This line gets me every time. Can’t wait for Taylor’s Version😩🩵
I’m definitely also feeling nervous about her uprise in popularity again. We’re doomed to repeat history and I really hope her 1989 downfall doesn’t happen again😢
When I was 22 I moved to NYC. The week leading up to me moving I used to drive around in my car and play “Welcome To New York” on repeat and cry over how overwhelmed with excitement I felt. So yes, the “every millennial woman who has moved to NY after this album has come out has played this song at some point” statement is so TRUE that I had to giggle. I met my ex boyfriend that first year in NYC. I just broke up with him last week after spending 8 years together. I’m definitely looking forward to 1989 TV.
"I must admit, just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it" because that's one of her most real vulnerable lyrics. Thanks for this incredible video Ally, I've been a fan since forever but still didn't know (or I forgot lol) a thing or two. Always looking forward to these videos of yours!!
That's my favorite too..... And the lyrics that follows " Now that i am clean I'm never gonna risk it" Those words give me so much strength..... I don't know if it makes sense to others but to me it is realisation of self worth
1989 is a lyrical masterpiece!! “The whole world was back and white but we were in screaming color” AHHHH!! Taylor describing love as colors has to be my favorite thing in the world!
As someone who was a fan of Taylor's during debut and fearless, and then dropped off because I was going through my own stuff only to come back for Midnights and not understanding the lore behind much of her work now. Thank you SO much for these videos. It makes me appreciate her and her music so much more.
“Clear blue water high tide came and brought you in, then , currents swept you out again” is perfect to me because of how relatable it is in my own life. And the fact that it’s such a clear picture that demonstrates that feeling and is about the ocean which is like my favorite place. It sets up the song to be perfect in my eyes
Agreed. There's this song by Chelsea Wolfe called "The Waves Have Come" and it's this devastating song about grief and loss, and if you love Taylor and songwriting you should check it out (and her whole discography). The song goes through all the stages of grief from desperation and denial to acceptance. And it culminates with the line "The waves have come and taken you to sea, never to return to me, never to return to me, never to return to me" God that song is amazing. That whole bridge/outro. Anyway yes, on the topic of the ocean bringing things and taking them away, that made me think of it
How do people skip Welcome to New York?? It makes me smile everytime I hear it, I cannot not dance to it. Thank you, Ally, for this masterpiece of a video, loved every second of it, I could listen to this for 3 more hours. ♥
My favourite lyric from 1989 is “we show off our different scarlet letters, trust me, mine is better”. It sums up everything that the media was saying about Taylor’s dating life and just how women are portrayed in general. Taylor’s ownership of it as well just hits me on a different level. It’s so simple but so powerful, and I never see anyone mention it
My favourite lyric has to be "boys only want love if it's torture, don't say I didn't warn ya," it's so simple but so powerful. I still remember I was 11 when this song came out, and I was in the car with my friend and her mum, who said "girls listen to this lyric - it's true". At the time I had no idea what it meant, but now I know she was so right!
@@AllySheehan Thank you for always being such an amazing content creator, always making all of your friends like they are welcome and for taking time out of your day to do videos like this. It helps everyone!
I think that every line of style is perfection, but the bridge of wonderland "you searched the world for something else to make you feel like what we had, but in the end in wonderland we both went mad" really sums up the entire album message/relationship so perfectly. Especially as wonderland is so upbeat and that bridge and her whoooaaaaaa back up into the chorus feels like it represents how even though the lyrics are depicting something typically pretty sad, that this era was actually a blast for her and she loved being single and her positive reflection on the relationship despite it being messy. Those lyrics and wonderland generally just really capture this story so well!!! My fave 100%
And the parallel to Question..?’s “Does it feel like everything's just like second-best after that Meteor strike? And what's that, that I heard, that you're still with her That's nice, I'm sure that's what's suitable” 👀
“All you had to do was stay”- this is such a simple lyric but in relationships, if you want to make it work bad enough, you’d stay. I personally resonate with this song so so much. Thank you so much Ally, every time you post a Taylor video, it gets me so excited for all her albums. With your input and parallels, it’s always like I’m listening to her songs in a new way!❤️❤️❤️
you know what your comment made me think of..... "all you had to do was stay"...... "sometimes walking out is the one thing that will find you the right thing"....... am I a clown for this
@@nessie7306 no you’re not a clown at all! It’s so true. As corny and over-said this may be- what’s yours is meant to be yours. My mum always says when you walk away and it still comes back to you, it’s yours. She uses a kite as an analogy, if you undo the roll of cord, the kite goes further away from you. But if it belongs to you, it’ll return to you when you’ve taken some cord back. Otherwise, it’ll snap under pressure and fly away.
One of my fav lyrics ever, both from 1989 and her whole discography is "the rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screamin colors." such a poetic way to descibe being in love and feeling on top of the world💕
“The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud but no one heard a thing”. A lyric that has always stuck with me. That’s a feeling I know all too well 😉 but was never able to articulate it into words before. It makes me feel better when I experience that, knowing someone else knows how that feels.
"Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean" is my favorite lyric from this entire album! I started being a huge Taylor fan after my first breakup, which was a long-term relationship. This song helped me so much throughout my healing process, and I cannot thank her enough for creating songs that have such relatable and healing lyrics. I love your videos so much! Thanks for being like a "big sis", you are such a comfort person in my life.
I was never a ‘you are in love’ girly but that line ‘and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it into words’ is INSANE to me and sums up Taylor’s entire career - so much of what she writes about is deep rooted in love and experiencing love whether good or bad, I was floored the first time I really fathomed that line 🫶🏻
“And you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars, and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it into words” I feel like we got such a clear image of Taylor as she was then, and who she’ll always be with that lyric 🥹
Hi Ally! This is such a great well researched, well edited video! Thank you for your commitment to this community. I’ve always been a Taylor Swift fan, but you were the entry door to a deeper knowledge of her lyrics and I’ll be forever grateful for that 🩵 My favourite lyrics from 1989 is “Cause baby, I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me” because for me, it perfectly reflects Taylor’s extremely mature attitude torward the media and criticism. We are so lucky to experience her at the peak of her career, and it makes me reflect about the numeorus times she could have just decided to stop and not give any more material to the haters. Instead, she built an empire out of grace, humility, talent and hard work. That’s one of the things I most admire about her and why I'm so proud to be a Swiftie!

It is SO hard to pick a favorite lyric. I think the chorus of You Are In Love just speaks to me on a spiritual level. “You can hear it in the silence” gives me CHILLS
“Had me in the palm of your hand/ Why’d you have to go and lock me out when I let you in?” I love this lyric because it really explains how you can be completely vulnerable in a relationship and love unconditionally, and sometimes that person isn’t ready to reciprocate those feelings.
Hi, as a (relatively) new Swiftie I'm very gratefull for all your album breakdowns 😅 My favourite lyrics from 1989 is “’Cause baby I could build a castle, out of all the bricks they threw at me. And every day is like a battle, but every night with us is like dream”. It describes so well how she took all the scrutiny (or just plain rudeness) the world put on her, and in some way build a strong foundation in spite, or even because of it. And yes, it is hard, a battle, every day; but she has found the right people around her to help her. As someone who was treated… unpleasantly since the day people realised she was just a little different, this feels quite relatable (at 23, still building that castle though; and not totally found the right ‘us’ yet). Gives me hope.
I love the lyric “And so it goes, you two are dancing in a snow globe round and round” Such a pretty visual for a lyric and I LOVE how she references it in the Lover music video!💜💜💜
My favorite lyric is “the rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color!” The delivery of this line in the song is iconic and and love the imagery of it! Thank you so much for another amazing video I always look forward to them!
I was addicted to drugs and alcohol for most of taylor's career so I was otherwise occupied until late 2019. Although I remember absolutely loving reputation i was not into any lore or anything. Got sober in late 2019 and when she dropped folklore I suddenly got a new addiction and now I think I'm in a cult. I really appreciate all the educated swifties sharing their wisdom with us who came late to the party 💜🙏🏼
I just wanted to comment on here to thank you for always making me feel safe I don't know what it is but your videos are just everything and this comment is nothing to do with 1989 but I just had to say it I appreciate you so much. Thank you for keeping making these videos. I would love to see more for rep and debut when they are coming out 💜
2:16 ok, feeling slightly brave at the moment, so my album ranking is 1) Folklore 2) Red 3) 1989 4) Evermore 5) Speak Now 6) Reputation 7) Midnights 8) Fearless 9) Lover 10) Debut why was this the hardest thing i’ve ever done
‘The best people in life are free’ This has to be my favourite line as it’s just so direct to the fans and those lines are always my fav! It’s such a perfect closing line to the greatest pop album of all time and it just speaks to me on another level. I’ve always got this line in the back of my head and it’s just perfection chefs kiss Love u Ally 💗💗
This albums contains too many amazing and iconic lyrics, but I must say the bridge of “This Love” is really special for me. Especially the lyrics “When you’re young, you just run but you come back to what you need.” are incredibly special for me. Because it incredibly and accurately conveys the desperation but also the hope that you feel the person you love is going to come back to you even though it’s never gonna happen. This lyric contains both despair and an optimistical hope, and that’s why it’s really special.
The bridge of This Love is amazing!! Confession : many of the non singles on 1989 I haven't heard until a few months ago so it's been quite the journey experiencing them, and This Love has quickly become one of my faves. The "I fell...to my knees!!" part I can't help but sing along to every time I listen gahhhhh it's *chef's kiss *
"When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst" It is one of my favorite lyrics on this album, I feel that it covers very well the feeling of leaving someone behind after everything they built together, due to lack of responsibility on both of them. It also reminds me to always water my plants.
“took our broken hearts and put them in a drawer” is my favorite lyric because i just love the thought of being able to have fun and forget about things that bring you down ( also i love atw )
My absolute favorite lyric in the whole 1989 album has to be "Ten months sober, I must admit; Just because you're clean, don't mean you don't miss it. Ten months older, I won't give in; now that I'm clean, I'm never gonna miss it", not only because how these lyrics represet such a interesting dynamic of knowing that something is not good for you, but still being kinda nostalgic about it, but also because of that clip where she perfomes this song after telling the crowd her story about the SA court case. Absolutely incredible
I would 100% get New Romantics’ “life is just a classroom” tattooed on me. This song is such a quintessential description of how millenials are / were and how we approach love and life. The lyric just reminds me that we are on this earth to learn above anything else. From our experiences, from each other. And double metaphor about how superficial life can be and how even in adulthood you deal with same things as in school, just on a grander and more mature scale. I cannot WAIT, cannot WAIT for New Romantics (Taylor’s Version). Thanks for keeping us company with your content. 🫶
18:42 Wow, she went from memes saying they wish she would admit "maybe I am the problem" to Anti-Hero, "It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me." People in the media don't realize how much they truly affect her. P.S. - Love you Ally, you're my fav swiftie youtuber!!
I am HERE for the track five on this album, All You Had to Stay! I have always been so obsessed with this song. Everyone gave this track a skip when the album came out and it was an immediate favorite! “People like you always want back the love they pushed aside, but people like me are gone forever when you say goodbye.” is my favorite lyric from the song. It’s such a powerful reminder of how strong one can be to accept closure and stay strong within one’s own solitude or solace, even when people change their mind! It’s a song about forcing someone to hold someone accountable to their actions! Wistful acceptance is the feeling.
"let the flood carry away all my pictures of you. the water filled my lungs i screamed so loud but no one heard a thing. the rain came pouring down, when i was drowning that's when i could finally breathe" has always been my favourite 1989 lyric since it holds so much resemblance and significance in my life. not only as somebody who has been through a flood and stuck in flood waters and whose been struggling ever since, but also as somebody whose greatest tragedy brang the clearest clarity. as somebody who struggled silently for the longest time, left endless signs that nobody ever saw, this/these lyrics will hold a special place in my mosaic broken heart that is learning to live with the pain, forever and always.
“Just grab my hand and don’t ever drop it my love they are the hunters we are the foxes” The dropping of the hand is something that I picked up after red Taylor’s version. Just how significant it was and then her comparing herself to a fox is also great because of how far ahead of the media she is when it came to the relationships
there are seriously so many amazing lyrics on this album...from "the monsters turned out to be just trees" (such a perfect depiction of anxiety!!) to "when i was drowning, that's when i could finally breathe" but one that always makes me super happy is "the lights are so bright, but they never blind me" ✨ sometimes what a girl needs is just a song to feel like the main character 😮💨
"The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud But no one heard a thing" this always leaves ache in my heart when I hear Clean i remember her performance in the rep tour and cry every single time this song is very closely attached to me it gives me the strength I need all the time every taylor swift song does that to me we stan QUEEN and I'm so thankful that I'm born at taylor swift era💙💙💙💙💙 Your videos always gives be so many unknown facts girl your doing great keep doing love your videos and thank you for educating us cant wait for 1989(Taylor's version) and your reaction video💙💙💙💙💙
Screaming, crying, kicking my feet at this! I have fallen in love with your videos so fast, the amount of work you put into them, and the FEELING of it all 💖Your channel and videos have finally given me a sense of community with my love for all-things-Taylor, and I cannot thank you enough for that! It continuously brings me so much joy, and I finally see that joy reflected back at me, not only because you share so much of your personality, thoughts and feelings through the videos, but also because of all the lovely people in comments 🩷 It feels like a sisterhood, so thank you, Ally ✨
"just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it" is just such an amazing lyric to me. as someone who has family members who have struggled with so many addictions, I just feel that lyric on a whole new level.
my fav 1989 lyric is def. "The best people in life are free", because this encapsulates what 1989 means to me: the growth and maturing of the growing up.
"All you had to do was stay" is my absolute favourite of 1989. I love the parallels between Harry Styles lyrics and the lyrics in this song. This song is just beautiful in every single way. When I heard the acoustic version, I almost cried. It's just unbelievable how Taylor Swift can make such sad lyrics into a pop classic.
My favorite lyric from 1989 is probably "the rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color" It's just so visual and beautiful!! Also, thank you for all the amazing taylor swift content!! 💙
'When the sun came up you were looking at me' It's such a beautiful lyric! I love how it's so familiar but not everyone knows the feeling behind it! And that makes it special. Whenever a bridge in a Taylor Swift song comes up, I become the dramatic I can be.. And that's how Taylor has won many people's heart and mine 💙Waiting for 1989 TV and her surprises. 💫 You are such an angel 🤍 I love what you are doing and thank you for the Everything you NEED to know videos ❤❤
My favorite lyric from the album is probably "'Cause baby I could build a castle, out of all the bricks they threw at me" because it shows not only Taylor's perseverance and confidence in being herself amidst all of this terrible media attention, but also that she will quite literally continue to build her empire by using that negative attention in the best way possible. It also reminds me that if someone hates you or targets you or spreads rumors about you, you can go and live in your castle instead of listening to them. I really love New Romantics in general, as a newer Swiftie I think it's my favorite song off the album (except for maybe Style and Out of the Woods)
1:04:32 "You gave roses and I left them there to die" - Back To December "When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst" - Clean "All my flowers grew back as thorns" - Call It What You Want
my favorite 1989 song is Clean because it really describes a personal feeling i´ve been going through these late months and it makes me feel understood. Taylor really knows how to make us feel identified with almost everysong she writes, what a mastermind. Love your videos Ally :))
"You can hear it in the silence" and also "You understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars, and why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words" from You Are In Love. It's my all time favorite song of Taylor and it just feels like a bg hug. And also just the kind of reassuring feeling that she gives you by saying that she's also struggling to put this crazy feeling into words or just grasp this feeling makes you feel better. I'm just waiting for the right time to post someone with this song lol.
The lyric “something happens when everybody finds out” is by far my favorite on the album. It’s so representative of how a relationship can change from when it’s just you two to when it’s everyone you know. When you and your partner are the only person to know about your relationship, it feels freeing and fun, like nobody can judge you about it. But when everyone knows, it’s like there will always be someone telling you you’re doing something wrong with the relationship. I love the way that such a simple line can convey such an important message.
"The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming colors " is just such a perfect metaphor. You know the feeling of listening to the song for the first time and you try to understand the lyrics, and then a line just hits you out of nowhere.. That line put into the words what i was feeling and the time, so it's always gonna be my favorite from 1989💙💙💙
"Life was never worse but never better" is so perfect to me, I love how it can be two words that are opposite at the same time. I think it's a nice acknowledgement that not because something is going wrong in life means that everything is wrong, it can be good and bad and you can still enjoy it despite bad things happening.
"you can hear it the silence" from you are in love might be my favourite lyric just because its so beautiful and unlike the rest of the album, it's about a love that you know is there, there's no questioning and its what we all aspire to have aah i just love it
My favorite lyric of 1989 is: "Your kiss, my cheek I watched you leave Your smile, my ghost I fell to my knees When you're young, you just run But you come back to what you need" I just get goose bumps everytime I hear it, because I really believe this and I lived this, when someone isn't ready for you and you have to let them go, is so hard to do, but somehow you know the story is not over. This is why cardigan is also a stan of mine, I just love this feeling of watching someone go, when deep down you know they will come back, and you just hope it won't be too late. Love you videos!
“Cause baby I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream” is such an iconic line and every time I hear it, it just makes me so happy, I love her embracing the joke and making something truly iconic out of it 🤩
One of my favorite lyrics is: "cause baby I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me" I love this so much because it is so true, in many situations she has turned negative comments about her and found a way to own them and especially during reputation how she made snakes be her thing and take all of that and make such a wonderful album off of it(BTW I WOULD LOVE IF YOU CONTINUED THESE VIDEOS BECAUSE THEY HAVE SUCH GOOD INFORMATION AND IM SO GLAD I FOUND YOU CHANNEL) 🩷
New Romantics is my favorite song in 1989. “Heartbreak is the national anthem, we sing it proudly” is just perfection. I don’t know if anyone else feels this but if Blank Space was written for the character the media was portraying Taylor to be like, New Romantics was Taylor’s actual take on that stage of her life. New Romantics is truly an anthem and it makes me emotional to listen to it because it was her having fun with her friends, experiencing different forms on love, and everyone was judging her for simply LIVING! Yet, it still retains some of the cheekiness of Blank Space. I think people (and the media) tend to downplay the legitimacy of “short-lived” relationships, specially if you are a woman. This song is just a celebration of uncertainty, love, experimenting and living outside of what many think is recklessness. @jennymurcia6 🩵
All you had to do was stay, I mean the best. I love "People like you always want back the love they pushed aside." I didn't think I was all that excited about this album, but hearing it all again is making me remember all the songs I loved. Thanks for reminding me, Ally! -LyssaTornow
My favorite lyric is " The rain came pouring down when I was drowning, that's when I could finally breath" I think it represents losing someone you love where is it be a friend or a significant. Or how when you live through tough tomes it can still make you stronger.
“The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud But no one heard a thing” I found this song during a very vulnerable time and I really resonated with this lyric. I remember almost feeling like I would never be 100% clean of this person I liked for so long and even some friends that did me wrong. This song kind of reminded me that I could push through these difficult months and finally be clean.
I started listening to Taylor in 2020, I was more into rock before. I'm really happy to get all the lore with each of your videos on her re-recordings.
I remember listening to "This love" over and over again when the album came out. It is somehow a perfect blend of the hopelessness of loosing love and the wonder of seeing it revived. Still, it's so subdued as if she is scared to be overexcited and jinx it. The "Oh-oh Oh, oh-oh" at the end if "This love came back to me" always give me chills. The way they go from hight to low to high again is almost like a heartbeat. Ahe "struggled through the night with someone new" and "this hands had to let it go free" nearly destroys me every time.
1989 was my childhood album 🥹 My favorite lyric is “It’s like I got this music in my mind saying it’s gonna be alright.” This lyrics is special to me as it’s how Taylor’s music feels, her music comforts me and always makes me feel happy and safe.
My favourite lyrics from 1989 I think is "the lights are so bright but they never blind me", the way she says that part I love it but I also love how it represents having your life changing but you enjoy that, it's not something bad and she knows it
These videos are honestly so helpful to me, learning new Taylore that I didn’t know before, thank you so much for taking the time to help the relatively new swifties, cause it makes the re recordings so much more memorable, Ally, your videos literally make me so happy and the pop culture references are just ✨
I love the lyric "I can see the end, as it begins" from Wildest Dreams (tv). I feel like this lyric really does capture not just the whole relationship, but this entire album. A relationship that both of them know isn't going to work out, but they still go through with it anyways.
"It's a new soundtrack, I could dance to this beat forevermore" - I've only recently started listening to Taylor Swift's music, and to say it has changed me is an understatement. Her lyrics speak to me in a way that none other does. And I genuinely could dance to her music FOREVERRRR 🥰😂
Hey Ally! My favorite lyric from '1989' is: 'I reached for you, but you were gone. I knew I had to go back home. You searched the world for something else to make you feel like what we had, but in the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad.' I went through a phase where I trusted that person wholeheartedly, but when I asked them to hold my hand in my darkest time, they were gone. Somewhere, I knew I had to let go, which symbolizes 'going home.' They moved on easily in life, trying to find something, but they couldn't find the peace they had with me, and I got mad at the thought of trusting them again. These four lines in a song truly encapsulated my entire year-long experience, showcasing the power of Taylor Swift's lyrics.
Thank you for doing these breakdowns. I listened to Taylo when she released Teardrops on my Guitar and Picture to Burn. But I never really delved into the background of all the songs and Taylor herself. And sure, I can look everything up online, but it's definitely much more fun to hear all the info from a real and true fan. So thank you so much for all the time, energy and love you put into your videos. And know that we all really appreciate it and love you for it! My fav lyric: You were my town Now I'm in exile, seein' you out I don't know what it is about these lyrics exactly, but they struck a chord with me the first time I heard them and have never left me since!! Greeting from the Netherlands!!
“the drought was the very worst / when the flowers we’d grown together died of thirst” 💐 from Clean are my fave! The imagery is SO good and just one of the many examples Taylor is an amazing songwriter. She just conveys so well that feeling of pain and grief right after a breakup, when you can’t imagine continuing on without the other person and your memories together keep running through your head. Literally one of her best songs and one that encapsulates the entire album imo. Watching your vids made me so so excited about all the tracks of 1989 all over again, I’m super excited for it to come out! 💙
My favorite lyric in 1989 is “it’s like I got this music in my mind saying it’s gonna be alright” I love it and it’s special because it’s such a hopeful phrase. I have had the feeling of feeling like everything’s gonna be okay before and everyone I hear it in shake it off I feel hopeful! 🖤
my favorite lyric from 1989, and maybe even by far, is “when the butterflies turned to dust, they covered my whole room” because of how insanely true that is. when something like that happens to you, it takes up your entire life. everywhere you go, everything you do, something somehow will remind you of that hurt. i love the dust metaphor because dust is something that if you get even just a little bit on you, it stays for awhile, you have to put in so much effort to rid yourself from it; to become clean. and she did. im actually going to need 5-7 business days to recover from clean (taylor’s version)
please continue the series!! I've been a TS fan since Red, but I was not super into all the lore and the events, bc it was just so much and everywhere, I kinda just wanted to enjoy the music. so it really helps to understand more :) thank you!
I’m so sad this video is over. As a longtime Swifty even I learned a lot and have had my mind blown! I’ve always loved 1989, but I have newfound, greater appreciation for this album and era now!
the lyric "strange look on his face pauses and says you're my best friends and you knew what it was he is in love" this is one of my favourite lyrics from this album because it shows that being in love isn't just saying I love you but when you're are in love with someone they're your best friend and that is enough to show the strong feelings between the two people. its such a strong lyric.
"And in the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad" & "You're still all over me like a wine-stained dress I can't wear anymore" are some of my favorites, but like, can you really choose when it comes to a taylor swift album? the Wonderland line is the perfect metaphor for a relationship and the world you create when you enter a new relationship because it demonstrates how an important thing in your life at a given time also can be so demanding and frustrating that you literally feel like you've gone mad - and at the same time you know it was worth it because it was wonderland
1989 is full of such bangers 🫶🏼 Clean is a masterpiece and definitely my favorite on the album, the imagery is so so beautiful and tragic “When the flowers we’d grown together died of thirst” The bridge of This Love is also one of my favorites. Definitely wanna give some love to AYHTDWS: “Let me remind you: this was what you wanted/ you were all I wanted” it ties back to Clean so beautifully. YOU ended this. YOU broke it. You were all I wanted and now it’s too late. “I’m never gonna risk it.” 😭
1989 has been my favorite album since I’ve become a full swiftie in about 2014! I really fell in love with everything Taylor before Reputation and grew up with all the 1989 bops! There is no skips for me on this album and I just love pop soooooo much! I know the Taylor’s version will only make me LOVE IT even more!
I hope you guys enjoy this video, please let me know if you learned anything new!! 🫶😊

@AllySheehan The incorrect lyrics that I first heard in Blank Space were "Gotta love these Starbucks lovers they'll tell you I'm insane"
@@13tayswift13 I used to hear it as "go talk to my ex lovers"
Incredible video ❤ hope Taylor see’s this 🙌🏼
I learned about Diana Agron which was a first. I feel like she disappeared when reputation happened though.
I was very busy that time in my life so I definitely missed some of the finer details and missed the concert 😢
Totally down for another 1989 video. This was the era that I fell in love with her.
YESSSSS to the TS Fashion breakdown video. Cannot wait for that.
I love how it’s 1hour 13 minutes and 13 seconds 🩵
And 1+1+3+1+3 = 9
Same❤ also when you pointed it out I would never relise if you hadn’t pointed it out
hehe thank you for noticing!! messed up my end screen but i couldn't resist 🫶
Tell me you are swiftie whitout telling me you are a swiftie
My lil baby sass ❤
My little swiftie twins are 10, and were babies when this album was released - giving this video to them as homework before 10/27 😆
I love your videos Dr. Jones!!! Thank you for all that you do. 🫶💙
Hey! Mama DR Jones is here!!
First Jarvis Johnson, now Ally!!
Haha I’m doing this with my mom cause I made her a swiftie when midnights came out lol
Love this! And love all your videos!
even though being in those eras has “passed”, I would still love to see videos like this for lover, folklore, evermore, midnights, fearless (tv), red (tv), and as you said, the eras soon to come! it’s just nice having a little time capsule that explains so much cool and fun info about taylor during each era! even eras I was there to experience, I’d still watch/listen about them again!! 🤩
I completely agree 🤍😊
YES OMG
“the monsters turned out to be just trees” as a person with anxiety this lyric just HITS how when you anxious everything around you can feel and look different
That was me just a couple hours ago.. so true
Oh that is so kind! Thank you for taking the time to write me such lovely words Vanessa. I really appreciate it!!

@@libbyf51 Haha thank you! I think the top 4 are all my number 1 if I'm being honest. Are you feeling brave? I'd love to see your ranking
@@VanessaTS28you are brave for putting Midnights first
My favorite lyric from 1989 is “one night he wakes, strange look on his face pauses and says, you’re my best friend and you knew what it was, he is in love.” It’s my favorite because whenever I hear the line it always reminds me that love isn’t just saying “I love you” being in love with someone can be interpreted by other sayings. Like if you are too scared or don’t know how to express yourself. But you just know. This line gets me every time. Can’t wait for Taylor’s Version😩🩵
😍😍😍
Well said ❤
This is my fav song of the album. ❤❤❤
I’m definitely also feeling nervous about her uprise in popularity again. We’re doomed to repeat history and I really hope her 1989 downfall doesn’t happen again😢
Same 🥺🙏🏻
history doesn’t repeat, it rhymes. taylor has learned a lot and she’s stronger now. she can get through anything im sure of it
You jinxed it bro, taylor loses monthly listeners as The Weeknd gains them.
And her partner is a help and strength for her. Makes a big difference! @@helenarosno
I’m definitely looking forward to 1989 TV.
wowww i am so proud for you and 1989 TV is coming just in time
"I must admit, just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it" because that's one of her most real vulnerable lyrics.
“When people make art, other people make art.” So true. Taylor’s songs have heavily inspired the books I’ve written. She’s just amazing.
It makes me appreciate her and her music so much more.
you are so welcome!!! did you get to see the video explaining this era too?
@@AllySheehan I have! 🥰
And it culminates with the line "The waves have come and taken you to sea, never to return to me, never to return to me, never to return to me"
God that song is amazing.
i could dance to this bEEEEeaaat forevermore!!! like come on 😭❤️
It's so rude
you’re the only reason why i got into taylor swift because of the song breakdowns and lore. PLEASE continue to do them!
omg that makes me so happy!!
My favourite lyric from 1989 is “we show off our different scarlet letters, trust me, mine is better”. It sums up everything that the media was saying about Taylor’s dating life and just how women are portrayed in general. Taylor’s ownership of it as well just hits me on a different level. It’s so simple but so powerful, and I never see anyone mention it
right off the bat, the intro was SPECTACULAR
thank you so much!!!
My favourite lyric has to be "boys only want love if it's torture, don't say I didn't warn ya," it's so simple but so powerful. I still remember I was 11 when this song came out, and I was in the car with my friend and her mum, who said "girls listen to this lyric - it's true". At the time I had no idea what it meant, but now I know she was so right!
wow that's so iconic of your friends mum
@@AllySheehan Thank you for always being such an amazing content creator, always making all of your friends like they are welcome and for taking time out of your day to do videos like this. It helps everyone!
I haven't come to the realization yet. What does it mean?
I agree wonderland is such a bittersweet song and basically sums up the album
And the parallel to Question..?’s
“Does it feel like everything's just like second-best after that
Meteor strike?
And what's that, that I heard, that you're still with her
That's nice, I'm sure that's what's suitable” 👀
yessss wonderland is so underrated i *love* that line!!
I was never a ‘you are in love’ girly but that line ‘and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it into words’ is INSANE to me and sums up Taylor’s entire career - so much of what she writes about is deep rooted in love and experiencing love whether good or bad, I was floored the first time I really fathomed that line 🫶🏻
you slayed with the editing on that intro ally omg
thank you love!!!
“And you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars, and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it into words”
I feel like we got such a clear image of Taylor as she was then, and who she’ll always be with that lyric 🥹
Hi Ally! This is such a great well researched, well edited video! Thank you for your commitment to this community. I’ve always been a Taylor Swift fan, but you were the entry door to a deeper knowledge of her lyrics and I’ll be forever grateful for that 🩵
My favourite lyrics from 1989 is “Cause baby, I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me” because for me, it perfectly reflects Taylor’s extremely mature attitude torward the media and criticism.

“Had me in the palm of your hand/ Why’d you have to go and lock me out when I let you in?”
I love this lyric because it really explains how you can be completely vulnerable in a relationship and love unconditionally, and sometimes that person isn’t ready to reciprocate those feelings.
Congrats on getting sober!
"I won't give in
Now that I'm clean, I'm never gonna risk it"
Keeps me stronger than anything I ever heard in AA.

Congratulations on sobriety! And hey, of all the cults to be in, this isn’t a bad one.
I just wanted to comment on here to thank you for always making me feel safe I don't know what it is but your videos are just everything and this comment is nothing to do with 1989 but I just had to say it I appreciate you so much. ‘The best people in life are free’
This has to be my favourite line as it’s just so direct to the fans and those lines are always my fav! It’s such a perfect closing line to the greatest pop album of all time and it just speaks to me on another level. I’ve always got this line in the back of my head and it’s just perfection chefs kiss
Love u Ally 💗💗
This albums contains too many amazing and iconic lyrics, but I must say the bridge of “This Love” is really special for me. Especially the lyrics “When you’re young, you just run but you come back to what you need.” are incredibly special for me. Because it incredibly and accurately conveys the desperation but also the hope that you feel the person you love is going to come back to you even though it’s never gonna happen. This lyric contains both despair and an optimistical hope, and that’s why it’s really special.
Yesss that’s my fav song from 1989
The bridge of This Love is amazing!!
"When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst"
It is one of my favorite lyrics on this album, I feel that it covers very well the feeling of leaving someone behind after everything they built together, due to lack of responsibility on both of them. It also reminds me to always water my plants.
“took our broken hearts and put them in a drawer” is my favorite lyric because i just love the thought of being able to have fun and forget about things that bring you down ( also i love atw )
Ally, I'm 0:34 seconds in the video and already I'm blown away. This is an ode to Taylor Swift and 1989. Thank you! It was worth the wait! 💙
My fav lyrics from 1989 is “cause baby I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me” btw I’m obsessed with all your Taylor vids💖
THE INTRO WAS SOOO GOOD ALLY
@jonathantylerr
That's my favorite lyric too!!
“Just grab my hand and don’t ever drop it my love they are the hunters we are the foxes”
The dropping of the hand is something that I picked up after red Taylor’s version.
"The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud
But no one heard a thing" this always leaves ache in my heart when I hear Clean i remember her performance in the rep tour and cry every single time this song is very closely attached to me it gives me the strength I need all the time every taylor swift song does that to me we stan QUEEN and I'm so thankful that I'm born at taylor swift era💙💙💙💙💙
Your videos always gives be so many unknown facts girl your doing great keep doing love your videos and thank you for educating us cant wait for 1989(Taylor's version) and your reaction video💙💙💙💙💙
THAT'S MY FAV TOO 🥺
that's my favorite too !!
You are such an angel 🤍 I love what you are doing and thank you for the Everything you NEED to know videos ❤❤

"You gave roses and I left them there to die" - Back To December
"When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst" - Clean
"All my flowers grew back as thorns" - Call It What You Want
my favorite 1989 song is Clean because it really describes a personal feeling i´ve been going through these late months and it makes me feel understood. Taylor really knows how to make us feel identified with almost everysong she writes, what a mastermind. Love your videos Ally :))
You’re such a genius. Please breakdown every Taylor Album. I have been trying to breakdown every album and it’s not as easy as it looks
Thank you so much for helping late swifties to more understand some of the story behind these lovely songs.

That line put into the words what i was feeling and the time, so it's always gonna be my favorite from 1989💙💙💙
You are like me, I love Welcome to New York! It’s such a bop! I always play it and sing it at the top of my lungs.
"Life was never worse but never better" is so perfect to me, I love how it can be two words that are opposite at the same time. I think it's a nice acknowledgement that not because something is going wrong in life means that everything is wrong, it can be good and bad and you can still enjoy it despite bad things happening.
“The monsters turned out to be just trees” one of my favorite lyrics. So comforting and reminds me big things will be little soon
"you can hear it the silence" from you are in love might be my favourite lyric just because its so beautiful and unlike the rest of the album, it's about a love that you know is there, there's no questioning and its what we all aspire to have aah i just love it
My favorite lyric of 1989 is:
"Your kiss, my cheek
I watched you leave
Your smile, my ghost
I fell to my knees
When you're young, you just run
But you come back to what you need"
I just get goose bumps everytime I hear it, because I really believe this and I lived this, when someone isn't ready for you and you have to let them go, is so hard to do, but somehow you know the story is not over.
Ally, I’d love to hear your Healy vs Taylor song references back and forth. I just really enjoy the lovers writing to each other through music.
My favorite lyric is " The rain came pouring down when I was drowning, that's when I could finally breath" I think it represents losing someone you love where is it be a friend or a significant. Or how when you live through tough tomes it can still make you stronger.
“The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud
But no one heard a thing”
I found this song during a very vulnerable time and I really resonated with this lyric.
1989 was my childhood album 🥹
My favorite lyric is “It’s like I got this music in my mind saying it’s gonna be alright.”
This lyrics is special to me as it’s how Taylor’s music feels, her music comforts me and always makes me feel happy and safe.
My fav lyric: You were my town
Now I'm in exile, seein' you out
I don't know what it is about these lyrics exactly, but they struck a chord with me the first time I heard them and have never left me since!!
As a Directioner, Their relationship was the reason I started listening to Taylor. And she's become my favourite ever since.
I’m loving the light blue themed outfit girl you look stunning🤩🩵
thank you for noticing!!
please continue the series!!
1989 is full of such bangers 🫶🏼 Clean is a masterpiece and definitely my favorite on the album, the imagery is so so beautiful and tragic “When the flowers we’d grown together died of thirst”
The bridge of This Love is also one of my favorites.
