This and AVP are two completely different things my guy. This is very basic info that’s it’s showing. Nothing more. I wouldn’t even call this AR and definitely wouldn’t call this VR. Google glass and anything like is not replacing your phone! It can’t even replace my Apple Watch. There is a reason this product is dead!

I think they were pulled because they had a lot of tech they could sell in between these and where in time we were. You don't pull something like this. Maybe slow it down or reshape the idea but this was a breakthrough on in so many ways.

It will though. Google was too early, just like they were with cloud gaming but its absolutely going to happen. Facebook is banking on this kind of tech. Also apple has a similar product about to release. This is a sure standard, eventually. The further we go the more we will integrate with our tech, and a day where its imbedded in our bodies isnt sci fi, its probably going to happen.

That's right, I think it would be great if Google's technology was better in terms of size than Vision Pro, that's just why the development of this technology stopped. This technology is good.
I'm almost certain that Google is working on this again behind the scenes.

This product was probably 10-15 years ahead of its time. There just wasn't enough AR software at the time, or Lidar, to truly create a "metaverse" - a digital overlay on top of the real world. That should change in the next few years.

Shiiit i didn't even think of that, Pokemon GO with some google glasses? Ill take that please. I trust a company like google to not store and especially sell video data of it's consumers. Facebook says they don't and only store temporary video data on the device only and it gets deleted. So im game

I think this will make a comeback in the future, like the original windows tablet in the early 2000’s/late 90’s it was just ahead of its time and looks weird. Better tech will come along and will fix problems. Such a cool product

I am from the future, May 2024, and this is going to make a comeback with Google's Project Astra AI Assistant they're likely going to integrate into Google Glass. There have also been recent breakthroughs in technology necessary to create holograms on glasses' lens while maintaining a small, slim frame for the glasses
Watching this right after the release of Apple Vision Pro. Well, G-Glass were definitely ahead of its time.

I feel like this Idea just was a bit ahead of the technology at the time. I recently translated some stuff with google lens on my smartphone, and I realised, that having this built into glasses would be insane for traveling.
It would be good to guide blind people if the maps talk . they could ask it to take them places and it guides them through . I like it

This product is way too expensive to be available for the public. Which is gonna hurt Google in the long run when it comes to profits.... they need to make it more affordable honestly. How can we test their product and tell them what's wrong if we can't even purchase it? 1000+ is way too high for something like this..
well it was not ready for the consumers mainly for people that REALLY wanted to try them out or developers or labs.

Google has already pulled glass from the market and is confirmed to not be reselling it in the future. However, they are still using glass technology for their other apps such as tango.

About 10 years ago, when I started to get interested in photography, I imagined that some day, there will be a device, some kind of contact lens that can take a picture of what I see by blinking in some way.
Maybe i've gone too far, but google glass made my dream come true! Unbelievable!!!

This was very much ahead of its time. Innovative technology will always be extremely expensive. Galaxy Fold the first of it's kind is 2K. Hopefully Google Glass and similar other companies try this again.
Anthony Nguyen there are rumors that google is trying these again, but with a minimal design that look exactly like normal glasses, and instead having your phone do all of the processing
@@bignono9589 now ,i wouldnt doubt it. Once Apple drops thier new goggles other companies will compete for the demand, especially some that are more affordable. Google will take another crack at this to get thier market share. its a shame that so much AR projects from even the largest companies have bombed but we're so much closer than so many people realize.

This is absolutely amazing. The applications for this are practically limitless. Data could be streamed instantly to your field of vision such as maps/gps, the news, etc. Maybe even private security firms might pick it up. Only problem is trying to lower it's cost.

Honestly, the only thing we want these to do is to scan the world around us. Street signs, people, etc. We want it full video game style, able to read everything and give us information on all of it.

Hey Google Glass Team. Have you tried retina tracking for selection of items and then reading an eye blink as a 'click'? Theoretically could be tons faster and not to mention hands-free. Also, the forward camera could be used to do face-detection of people. It could recognize registered users and pull up their public (user sanctioned) information, etc.
bad idea, we blink all the time and there would be so many mistakes.
@@nicolashinds3415 yeah maybe prolonged blinks though. We usually blink super quickly but a purposeful 3-5 second closed eye might work? Idk but I hope they go further with this tech, mainly because it's actually pretty cool especially now with how far vr tech has come since these originally came out

***** Well back when I wrote this comment, Microsoft hadn't announced HoloLens yet. But now I know and I agree that HoloLens is way more advanced than Google Glass. But still these products have different goals, Google Glass is for any consumer just wanting simple features for everyday use while HoloLens is for advanced users who use it for a specific and multiple purposes.
I'm from the future , it flopped
To answer a few questions:
- Yes it has voice activation. Google have just bought up some big time voice recognition software for this.
- No, it costs $1500 for the developer edition as they have not mass produced this yet, mass production and optimization drives down costs.
- It connects to the internet via Bluetooth/Wifi.
- If you pair it with your android phone you can SMS/Call etc
- It is app driven
- The camera can be accessed by apps meaning object recognition and augmented reality.
