This would be the perfect music score to a pretty interesting visually estetic and dark film. This type of "you need to picture things and consentrate"-music is not suited for people. We are all much too tuned into the obvious patterns when it comes to stimulas like music.
    Unfortunate that is sometimes...

Aghast was amazing! I remember when that first came out on Cold Meat Industry. I had never heard anything like that at the time, and was immediately hooked. Them, and bands like Lustmord, Morthound, A Challenge of Honour, Arcana, etc, really changed how I looked at experimental/ambient music...

I've been wondering my whole life if it was possible to speak about the problems of our society using the anecdotal context of a given religious narrative. Ulver just keeps exploring this concept without being completely devoted to a single narrative. Shadows of the Sun was very primal. This is more gothic.

It's funny how in most of these videos, there seems to be three types of Ulver fans.
    1) The ones who pretty much like everything they've done. At least as far as old and new stuff goes, not so much every single album.
    2) The people who like Ulver in their BM days (first like 3/4 albums), and wish they would go back to that.
    3) The people who like the newer stuff (as in post BM Ulver), but either just don't care for their BM days, or don't like it in general.

      4) Those who only like their newer 80s albums
      5) Those who like the black metal material, but not Kveldssanger
      6) Those who like the black metal songs and the ambient electronica-stuff, but not the newer 80s albums.
      7) Those who like only Bergtatt, but think Nattens Madrigal is too harsh
      8) Those who only like Kveldssanger
      9) Those who like Perdition City, but not Blood Inside and the black metal stuff
      etc. etc.

I like more Messe than ATGCLVLSSCAP. It is shorter, but I think the tracks are more interesting and form a global entity (like Perdition City, Blood Inside, Shadows of the Sun), contrary to ATGC where the 12 (good) tracks can be listened to without each other, in my opinion.

    • @wintercoffin
      @wintercoffin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

ATGCLVLSSCAP are re versions of previous albums songs...
The song "Moody Stix" features samples from the song "Doom Sticks" from A Quick Fix of Melancholy. "Glammer Hammer" reinterprets "Glamour Box (Ostinati)" from Messe I.X-VI.X. "Nowhere (Sweet Sixteen)" is a new arrangement of "Nowhere/Catastrophe", and "Ecclesiastes (A Vernal Catnap)" reinterprets the ending of "Tomorrow Never Knows"; both original songs are from Perdition City. "England's Hidden" contains vocal samples of "England" from Wars of the Roses.

    • @Fatalordi

I for one have grown up with them. It was a pretty intense BM era with so many subtly unique stuff emerging, when it was fresh and new, it was complete experimentation after all, BM itself, yet sounded so age old with a clear point. And we were younger. Their creative genius with later albums always rang a bell so familiar. Great band. No band so naturally sincerely evolved as an avant-gard act as Ulver unlike the other ones that set out with avant-gard in mind.

My first exposure to Garm and anything associated with him was with Arcturus, though oddly it wasn't until I rediscovered them about a year or two later that started clicking more with them. Garm and Vortex are two of my favorite vocalists, and what they've done with both Arcturus and Borknagar are some of my favorite albums. While I may not be as into Ulvers later stuff, I still admire their work. Hell, the first album I bought of theirs was Perdition City, followed by Bergtatt.

Yeah, two songs with vocals is all there is unfortunately. And not very much vocals during those 2 songs either! Of course, after waiting about 25 minutes or so until their's actually some singing makes the vocals seem that much better for the people listening. "Finally some action!" This is an interesting release, but for me doesn't hold up as a cd to listen to more than 3-4 times in a lifetime.

Nein, danke.
