    Great video, considering one. Can you confirm if it works without internet, only local wifi. Example motion sensor still triggers yeelight on or wireless button still can toggle yeelight on/off, etc.

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hendrik, that's confirmed for sure.
      I have many of my automation rules set up as "local", and these just work fine without internet. (Lights go on/off as usual, all the sensors and switches just work as well.)
      I would suggest splitting up specific rules if these require an internet connection (to send a notification to your phone for example) and saving that as a separate rule.
      My door sensor, for example, sends me a notification as well as turn on a group of lights.
      I've split up the light on/off-rule and the notification-rule to their own rules respectively. That way the lights will go on even if the internet is down, however it won't send me that notification.
      I'm sure to be doing a very in depth video on the Mi Home app, hopefully I can get to that pretty soon!

      China TechStuff Thanks for your reply and also tips. Look forward to your future videos. Hopefully you would have some about integration with yeelight, cameras, IR remote, etc. I hope also xiaomi could also work with other platform for voice control. Cheers

    I'm just starting to dabble a bit in the smart home thing and I'm thinking Xiaomi would be the way to go, mostly because of their awesome prices. Their stuff is only available with chinese electricity plugs though, right?

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly like that! Thanks :)
      If you intend to buy more products with a plug another idea could be to get one of these Xiaomi powerstrips.
      That gives you several Chinese connectors so you'll only need one adapter to connect that powerstrip with.

    Hi, thanks for your nice explanations, it's not easy to keep up with Xiaomi's everyday new products! Just one question: I noticed that on import stores there are different Security Kits, one being 4 in 1, one being 5 in 1 and another one being 6 in 1, plus one is Aqara, one is Mijia and one seems to be the original Xiaomi Kit, with the red box with chinese golden letters... In order to be future-proof which one would you suggest buying?

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sebastiano Canato I believe they all use the same gateway, so it seems the main difference is in the added sensors. do you have a link to the mijia and aqara ones youre referring to? i have the red starter kit with the chinese lettering though but like to see the ones you mean just to be sure :)

    • @sebastianocanato3375
      @sebastianocanato3375 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure! So, here is the Aqara 4 in 1: www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_659225.html
      This is the Mijia 6 in 1: www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_616359.html
      And this is the classic 5 in 1 which you have too: www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_600096.html
      Mijia seems to be more generic, while Aqara is more for security, as the link itself says. I've read the gateway has three revisions, so my main concern is making sure I get the latest revision, and since there's no specifics about that I would think the safest way would be to get the kit that was marketed more recently.
      Also, Xiaomi seems to sell door/window sensors under both its own brand and Aqara's:
      www.gearbest.com/smart-light-bulb/pp_257677.html
      www.gearbest.com/access-control/pp_626703.html
      I really wonder why they push out slightly different configurations under different brands, it causes a lot of confusion... :-|

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There have officially been only two releases of the gateway. Only a pretty old V1 and the V2. I think the confusion of there being 3 is when installing the gateway in the Mi Home APP, the wifi network broadcasted by the gateway 2 sometimes can be called "Lumi_Gateway_V3_xxxx" but I have been told that this model is actually is the exact same as the V2 and they mention they have only released 2 versions.
      That being said, I don't think Gearbest is selling a V1 gateway any longer as that one is very old. So the main difference between the kits on GB is the amount of accessories that are included. So your choice should really be based on what sensors you plan to use, and what you plan using them for.

      xiaomify Got it! I think I'll go with the security one, I've already ordered a Mijia 1080p camera, can't wait to try it all out!
      Thanks a lot, really, for taking the time to check on the gateway versions, very appreciated!
      Keep up the great work! ;-)

    I'm struggling with deciding which brand of smart light switches to buy, so far I have narrowed it down to two brands 1. Kleverness & 2. Xiaomi. I have a Google home already. Xiaomi has many more products which is exciting. If I had different smart device brands with their own apps does this mean they can't work together so for example turn on kleverness lights when Xiamo motion sensor detects motion? Thanks

    Hi. Some home kits come with wall socket and humidity sensor(and sold as extras). So im thinking- can you set rule to humidity sensor to activate that socket when humidity goes up and turn off when its all good again. I'd like to run my bathroom ventilation with this thing. Please check it out.
    Also your videos are very nice. First i bought mi robot vacuum and now im seatching these all cool xiaomi stuff.

    Great video! I have one question for you and I hope you can help me... Is there any "zigbee signal extender"? Because my Xiaomi (zigbee) smart socket is across the house and does not have signal with gateway. Or do I have to buy another gateway? :-X Thank you very much for your help...

    • @CezarWagenheimer
      @CezarWagenheimer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Petr! I have the same problem. I think the Smart Socket only uses Zigbee and not Wifi, mine is on the second floor and the gateway can't detect it. Did you find some way to extend the signal? Two gateways may solve the problem?

    does it work overseas or we have to wait for an international version? I am looking to buy it from taobao and take it overseas with me. Australia

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does work overseas but there is no local server at the moment. (Local settings set to China)
      -For the devices with a plug, you will obviously need to use an adapter.
      I strongly believe there will be international versions but I have no idea when, and if Australia is on the list though...

  • @BrendanxP
    @BrendanxP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you recommend using it when having other plugs?

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brendan, you mean when having European sized plugs?
      If you use an adapter plug in between they will just work fine, China pretty much uses the same voltage as Europe, so it should do no harm.
      I am sure that Xiaomi will come out with global versions of many of the devices at some point but if you can't wait for that: it should work just fine!

      Hi Michal, these new Aqara products will work with the Mi gateway V2 and V3. (The v1 model won't be supported.)
      I don't know exactly until when the V1 model was made, but I have a V2 model here and got mine a little over 1.5 years ago.

    Dear author, if I am not mistaken, the smart plug included is Zigbee not WiFi. Xiao Mi has another model for WiFi.

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Chu Zhen, that is correct indeed.
      I try to show that all these products connect to the gateway over Zigbee at 01:43 in the video.
      (The gateway does connect over WiFi, allowing you to control the plug with the APP.)
      I'm doing a video just about the Smart plugs pretty soon, and I actually have both the regular as well as the Zigbee version here to explain that specific difference.

    • @zckom
      @zckom 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the reply, actually I am referring to the part 0:15, WiFi-enabled power socket that you mentioned. It is quite confusing as it only connect to WiFi when the gateway is connected to WiFi, otherwise it can't connect to WiFi on it owns. Anyway, I am looking forward to more of your video. Hopefully I won't spend too much money on buying after watching your reviews.

      That is interesting, I recently received my smart plug and it is the WiFi version. I cannot seem to find the power consumption tracker as a feature on this model. Could that feature only be on the Zigbee model? Also, is there a way to tell them apart physically?

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Yasir, that indeed is a function currently limited to the Zigbee model only..
      I actually had that in the script for this video, but as I am doing videos on all of these products individually a bit more in depth I had to cut that out of this videos, but I will surely be covering that in those videos :)
