The greatest season of all time: only 1 point between the top 3 compared to 9 between the top 4 in 2001, and even 1 between the top 2 in 2009. Loeb & Solberg only winning a few rallies each before Loeb went on his legendary 9 championships. We had all 3 classic legends: Makinen, Sainz and of course McRae in the same rally as the newest legends such as Gronholm and the aforementioned Loeb & Solberg. Shame for Burns however, and so heartbreaking when he died 2 years later.

Because he suffered due to severe health issues ie brain cancer until he die on November 25th 2005 in front of his father and his girlfriend at the age of 34...
Yeah and 2 years later Colin McRae died in the helicopter crash in September 2007 that crash killed Colin his 5 year old son Johnny and his two friends
I went to the Cardiff ss 1 hoping to see richard burns this year gutted for him to also beef i seen them on Rhonda stage before the crash in Margam park the car was miss behaving then like crabing side ways but going straight sort of thing

Tragic to know that just two years later, Richard Burns would no longer be with us. McRae’s last full season too, only made a handful of guest drives after 2003 and then died in 2007. Those years of 2005-2007 were pretty cruel for British rallying. Burns, Michael Park and then McRae. 😞
Great Britain is the nightmare for Sainz even though he won there in the 90's, just like Germany for Raikkonen you know that in Nurburgring and Hockenheim reliability costed him title twice 😔😔😔

I didn't know his father was still alive at the time.

So sad to hear back that Burns blacked out on the road of Wales and went to the Hospital.. ;( He never came back...
Yeah burns didn’t even make it back into the rally seat because brain cancer caused his death aged 34 leaving behind his father and his girlfriend

McRae made a welcome back to wrc in 2005 in wales and again in Australia where he nearly scored the skoda fabias first podium

Sebastian Loeb secured his first manufacturers Championship in Citroen team who never took heavy risk to take first world champion.
His team boss said exactly the right thing. He told him to stay on the track (which is essential to win the championship anyway) not to slow down.
