- The Wēiti River Bridge, the centerpiece of the O Mahurangi Penlink project, will become the first extradosed bridge to be built in New Zealand.
Watch the first stages of construction for the massive bridge foundations of the first pier that will rise up out of Wēiti River.
When my family moved to Whangaparaoa in 1978, the real estate agent said to my parents that they were going to build a bridge across the Weiti river. I am not sure why it takes 50 years to bulid a bridge, better late than never.
They were talking about it for over 60 years but with 60 year old plans soon it will be another job for Nippon clip-ons
Where in NZ is this? I'd appreciate some reference points. Closest town? NI or SI? Province etc?
It’s north of Auckland - Whangaparaoa peninsula. Will connect Whangaparaoa Road and State Highway 1.
@@sevenhelmets forgot !! i have been there . Boat Club etc
Wade river, Stillwater
Planning for the future and making it a 2 lane bridge 😂
It does defy belief!
Enough said
NZ does things cheap. Falling further behind Australia's higher quality infrastructure
Nargh, they'll just put a passing point for slow vehicles to pull into half way down
She'll be right mate
Totally agree, typical shortsightedness in planning our road network
Two lanes in the hope more lanes not be needed. Hmmm.....same said of Auckland harbour bridge in 1959......
Using Maori names for every location is tokenism. You don’t speak Maori at home or try to speak any other Maori during your presentation. You guys are just trying to look politically correct, but its really shallow and has no substance
yep and now some maoris like me got no idea where the hell your talking about
Awesome HEB great job
I have always respected HEB. They are very good with bridge construction. Now delivering the Peacock bridge in Hamilton, NZ.
HEB such a big project but HEB cant even fix a pot hole
..to be fair, they are contractors... pay them and they will likely do it. If want the job done for free, do it yourself or ask your local Govt to do it.
If your local council will only pay for 2 guys to throw a shovel load of hotmix at a hole thats what they do.
What a stupid coment.
@@johnsullivan6709 its cold mix, ez street
Yet to see anyone do ez street right, now from a guy being paid by the hour, he can do it right, problem is they are taught wrong and dont understand the methods or wont try. But ez street needs to be banned for use on roads above 60kmh because it never seals and hardens like asphalt does thats why it makes distorted bumps that are worse than a pothole, also alot of blame on ezstreet needs to be put on peoples deaths. More ezstreet usually has more accidents.
And if they stop thinning the emulsion so much the bitumen roads will hold better. These contractors are letting you down from correct grades on the road right through to the density and integrity of the final product. And its not as if they do it fast either.
What is an extradosed bridge?
yeh that should have been a pretty obvious thing to have explained...
An extradosed bridge employs a structure that combines the main elements of both a prestressed box girder bridge and a cable-stayed bridge
Nice bridge...what about another harbour bridge...big money spent for rich holiday crowd.
The rich holiday crowd, in Whangaparāoa?
Epic job, so much project management!
Epic job alright, but 4 lanes are better than 2, just more backward thinking from labour
Nice video HEB but please use common place names. I've lived in NZ for 50 years, North and South islands and have no idea where this is in the country.
you are dead right - I'm a retired surveyor and the first thing I asked myself when looking at this was 'where the heck is it?' I still have no idea - but would love to know. Great piles though - I used to design systems for marine pile positioning for large bridges globally when I worked for Trimble in NZ
Its in the north of Auckland. Over the Weiti River, from Stillwater to the Whangaparaoa peninsula. A roadway will then link it to state highway 1.
That's good actually! A weekend spent in Stillwater is like turning the clock back forty years and I'd like it to stay that way :)
Agreed.
Me neither and I was born here 58 yrs ago 😂
Can't wait to drive it 😎
Impressive guys
Nice bridge! I wonder if some people will be able to get over it?
Cool, but uhhhh why no on-site concrete batch plant?
Perfect comment, two lane bridge!
Should have made it a 1 lane bridge out of timber.
How come such a high bridge with such big piles?
Possibly to reduce the impact on a rural area by going over rather than through. Soft ground in a marine environment, and they would need to anticipate the load from a long, tall structure exposed to wind.
Because of the land height on the Northern side.
So self absorbed, forgot to mention where this is! Meanwhile, great project!
yeh that too. As well as defining extradosed.
Watch ot again they do mention in the beginning. Tall poppy syndrome is alive and well.
How's Transmission Gully?
…….and two days after opening will be closed for pot hole repairs.
What's a pot hole repair? I only know the holes.
Where the F is this?? I take it is in the North Island, it is amazing that its no raining!
Whangaparaoa. It will connect SH1 to Whangaparaoa across the Weiti River.
Has this project received the 🌈✔ ? If not, why not ?
Wait for the Koha before it can be opened???
powder coated stainless steel reinforcing ?
Once it's done they can commence the infill of Whangaparaoa with shoddy 3 level town houses and ease some of the burden on the rest of Auckland.
I'm semi joking but it'll probably happen soon enough.

Whangaparoa Peninsula, Auckland NZ. Built to lessen traffic congestion from Silverdale interchange
All important, the price?
@@dennisbevin7979 Grossly overpriced.
The total PENLINK (NOT this bs name - mahurangi is 30Km North) is $840Million = $120Mill. per Km.
@@dr.aculasdad2713how would you have priced this job and what would your work methods be to save on the costs?
@@charlesnol2187 penlink has gone from $140Mil to this disgusting figure in a very short time.
I have lived in the area for 32 years, and Rodney DC had the total required to do the job when we were sucked into the Auckland BS.
Anywhere else in the world, the /Km costs are $20M range.
This bridge should not be so high over the Wade River, and we are being screwed with a single lane each way.
The whole deal stinks.
How about you finish the Eastbourne cycleway. Maybe Instead if 10 guys standing round on there phone all day and 1 working they all actually do their job. Your company is a joke and milking tax payers and rate payers money.
Wow, you really triggered the boomers with this video...
Just to think during WW11 the Americans offered to build a bridge across there for free🤪
They actually also offered to build another one end of Weymouth Road across the estuary to Karaka for free too which would today take so much pressure off the motorway to get to Pukekohe,Karaka and Waiuku which have now all expanded - imagine that!
If you go to the end of Weymouth Road today the road ends on edge of a cliff where they were supposed to start the bridge but got stuck in this thing called red tape and here we are 80 years later…………
Labour had no Idea
