    • @sana__6
      @sana__6 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      yeah, i was wondering what rob was thinking. Other than the p5 protag (except the protag is OP, esp. if you spend hours min maxing your personas through sacrifices), Morgana was the best overall healer and status remover. Makoto may have Mediarahan too but an inferior status removal skill, and i think i tended to replace it with nuclear damage buffs in my later playthroughs.
      and yeah, Morgana's crit skill with low damage and his spoon equip that buffed his crit chance was pretty good for setting up for either negotiating or quicker all out attacks
      to say nothing of the fact that Morgana was also the wind specialist

    • @elijahsanders7362
      @elijahsanders7362 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Look let me tell you how it is this is persona 5 an atlus developed game meaning that the only things that are really important are buffs and debuffs and if you play the two harder difficulties you see that of course he isn't worthless but he does not get the buffs and debuffs a support class needs for an atlus game and it makes him outclassed like try beating the twins with him on your team at level 70 on hard or 60 on normal

    • @Vladicarus
      @Vladicarus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I played through the game on hard mode my first time through, morgana pulled through each time, since i had other characters on buffs and debuffs. It's more about team-set up then leaving one character to do one thing.

      meh, Xehanort only needs 12 people to control, and there are a lot more JRPG villains than that. More likely that they are all Sephiroth clones, which explains the inexplicable coincidence that they all just happen to want the destruction of everything, almost like the Jenova cells that cause the silver hair are also controlled by a certain silver haired mamma's boy who wants to travel the universe destroying everything.

  • @juliansexton8668
    @juliansexton8668 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Heck you could even make just 7 bosses in every jrpg!
    1) the boss you are supposed to/allowed to lose.
    2) the other "that boss". The one that's not nearly as hard as the one mentioned in the video, but it's early enough in the game it might as well be. You don't know what you're doing yet but the game has been forgiving of that so far and all of a sudden BOOM! A Gatusso - I mean some boss comes along and you realize you actually need to grind or get good at the game.
    3) the boss with a 10 minute unskippable cutscene before it that may vary in difficult from game to game but that you will almost never beat in your first 3 tries which is enough to cause controller throwing.
    4) the boss that is actually your ally who turned on you.
    5) the boss with three and exactly three phases.
    6) the boss that is moderately difficult unless you find the one thing that drastically weakens/instakills it (for final fantasy, read: the undead boss).
    7) the sideboss or even normal monster that you can encounter WAYYYY before you are adequately geared/leveled for it so it wipes your party very quickly.

    What about the most basic thing in a rpg? Leveling Up! Or the mysterious character who joins your party later on? The original bad guy you have been pursuing for the last 1/2 of the game is just being manipulated by an even more evil villian? The horrible grind for that one item drop that you need to build the ultimate weapon or equipment? You even left out the lack of save points (oh the days before autsave was even an idea). You also touched upon but didn't include sections where you have to use certain characters (OP or not). Random encounters also needs a place on the list. There you go feel free to use this list for a second video.

      The original bad guy thing, he addresses when he talks about the bad guy. And everyone knows about the grind so that's the frosting on the cake. Also not everyone needs/wants the ultima weapon. Random encounters are also not needed to be explained because they start out the games like that.

    For me "that one level" was crossing the desert in Breath of Fire 3 on PS1. It's similar to the field in 4 but at one point you are told to go east after so many days, which would be right on the compass, but no! You actually have to turn left and go west! Not to mention you always end up following the false north star and not the true north start because your character is turned around after sleeping

    My favorite one, to the point that JRPGs just feel empty without them, are the quirky miniboss squad: the elite group of henchman that you fight throughout the game. Whether they be Grand Cardinals, Four Fiends, Admirals, God Generals, Judges, it doesn't matter. It helps the narrative so much when the bosses throughout the game aren't just a random monster in the way.

    "A beautiful world map you can fly over": The World Ends With You, Star Ocean 3-5, every Tales game since Graces, every Kingdom Hearts, and every Persona game (I know he said "fat" JRPGs, but if he didn't want me to include Persona he shouldn't have brought up Morgana. Speaking of...).
    "A big party with at least one useless member": now this is a challenge, but I'll say Dragon Quest XI and Chrono Trigger.
    "Addictive minigames": Pokémon Sun and Moon, Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends With You (no I don't count Tin Pin Slammer, he said "addictive").
    "That one boss":
    Oh in that case...
    "Or that one dungeon"
    -_- sure, change up the criteria on me. Ni No Kuni 2, Tales of Zestiria, Pokémon X and Y.
    "An ice area that's difficult": If difficulty is the requirement I'd say Tales of Graces, Star Ocean 2, Star Ocean 4, Dragon Quest XI, and every Pokémon game. If it's just an ice area at all: every Kingdom Hearts game prior to KH3, The World Ends With You, every Persona game.
    "A villain who just wants to destroy everything": Tales of Xillia, Tales of Berseria, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and every Pokémon generation besides 4 and 6.

After that I'd say Freya is third last, then Amarant, and lastly Dagger (though, she's only last because Eiko does everything she does, but better, if Eiko wasn't there then Dagger would be better than Amarant).

    • @LordSephleon

      I only got through the Wiegraf duel by having a Monk Ramza with Move-HP Up, a strong Chakra and Wave Fist, and exploiting the game's AI (how it always moved away from you if it attacks first, and moves towards you otherwise). I honestly thought of Stealing or Breaking his gear to make it easier at the time, but I hated relying on anything that had less than a 75% chance of success (especially against a high-Evade character like Wiegraf), and even though my Move-HP UP and Chakra ensured I refilled my HP to max after each "skirmish" with him, deviating from that pattern even a little generally ended in (my) tears.
      Against Velius, it was having the aforementioned Monk Ramza (I can't remember his secondary skillset, but pretty sure it was one of the main magic sets - probably Time or White) and a Ninja with Throw Item and Fly (yes, the Dancer movement ability) that carried me through the fight. Two Dragoons (one of each gender, Secondaries in Thief) and a pure caster (I think a White/Time or Black/Time during my first run) filled out the rest of the party, but the Dragoons pretty much tanked during the fight with their Dragon Spirit while the mage focused on keeping people Hasted while hitting the demons with Don't Move/Don't Act. The Ninja provided essential Phoenix Downs/Hi-Potions and the occasional two sword stab, but as she was somehow the squishiest in the party (even moreso than the caster) AND my primary healer (items don't fail to work) , I only moved her in for guaranteed kills, preferring to keep her far outside the fight.
      My first meeting with Wiegraf (and then Velius) saw me woefully unprepared and forced me back a save file. While I already preferred Ramza as a Monk (to make him self-sufficient), my party overall wasn't capable of killing even one Ultima Demon without severe casualties due to being underleveled.
      So yeah... screw Wiegraf.

      Pretty late, but it’s probably something like “the world is so broken that the only way to fix it is destroy it and start over”.

    1. Pretty sure I already commented on your full benched party members video, but if you really want an example, MOMO from Xenosaga I.
    2. Going with Xenosaga, That One Boss from Xenosaga III, the ES Levi, actually ended up being my favorite boss after the fact. I mean, he was basically a Dark Souls Boss in a JRPG: a powerful but fair challenge that was super satisfying...after the 20+ deaths.

    There's always a hand-to-hand specialist/monk as well.
    My "that one boss" in FF7 was Gi Nattak, until I discovered the Phoenix Down trick. Then it was Carry Armor; it was very fond of grabbing Cloud and Barret in quick succession then nuking the remaining party member.

    tbh feel like amaurat/morgana are good/decent team members.
    monk boy can basically help constantly sustain mp, iirc, which is awesome.
    and morgana with a sp regen badge and some decent speed can presumably keep you healed up when you're pretty much just busting out multihit physical moves, hell i typically use him, ann, and makoto for this reason.

    My 'That One Boss' was Gale from Rogue Galaxy.
    Back when there were brick'n'mortar video rental places in the States, I picked up this gem for PS2, and was astounded by the visuals, the gameplay, and the characters; it felt like a spiritual successor to Skies of Arcadia! But then, on the fourth planet (the mining one, I forget the name), 1 of your 3 party slots is stuck with Deego, a bipedal bodybuilder anthropomorphic Boxer, with a machine gun hand and greataxe, who isn't as highly leveled as your other party members, and grinding out his abilities is REALLY tedious on the planet you get him; then comes HIS archnemesis as the level boss, a Magnums-akimbo dark elf (not making it up!) who has a second stage where he pilots a miner robot. I couldn't beat him the first dozen times, returned the disc when the time limit came, then rented it again months later, PLAYED THROUGH THE PREVIOUS 3 PLANETS ON A NEW SAVE, and THEN!...then I beat that punk. And then returned the disc without completing the game bc Gale was just THAT much of a wanker that he ruined the rest of the game for me.

      Geoff Baumgartner Cross is the reason I started playing jrpgs, and I love it way more than FF as well. Before the original playstation I didn't have that much access to this genre, maybe because it wasn't that common on sega genesis. And now jrpgs kinda lost the spotlight to the western ones. I'm playing Witcher 3 now but I plan to get to FF XV eventualy. Hope it's good.

      It's kinda love it or hate it with XV, but at $40 max for the Royal Ed and as many hours as Witcher 3, it's def worth it. (not as many substantive side quests as though). Witcher 3 is a tough game to live up to though.
