I actually think its the opposite to an extent. The 90s music was more overall musical. They tended to create a whole vibe and the hooks more melodic and catchy. As time went on the beat became less relevant and it became more about the lyrics (lik wayne, emineem etc) with the occasional beat that created a vibe. 90s had a slower beat and it was more of a “boom bap” beat, they had understandable lyrics and had good instrumental samples. The stereotype for a rapper then was someone who was typically poor or a gangster, rapping about stories, problems, and their day to day life. 2000s is a mix of “boom bap” and a hint of trap beats, but they go all in on the instruments, and the beats get faster. They normally rapped about problems in the world, their lives, or sex. 2010s-2020s (because it has not changed at all) is full on trap beat, high pitched, barely even understandable music. With 90s rap you could at least fall a sleep to some songs like “better dayz” by tupac, but know it just sound like a fucking mouse clicking tournament with all the beats. No soul, just pussy, drugs, money, and guns. Also all the rappers now are dying off earlier. At least most 90s rappers knew how to settle down and not OD.
