Hi Cherie! Just so you know, if sterling silver is rhodium plated it first has to be plated in copper and nickel to get a good finish. So if you do a scratch test and hit copper don’t assume it’s a faker. It could be the real deal, you need to scratch through 3 layers before you hit silver. Loved this episode btw! Poor box wins I think

If a piece is marked 925 then it should be solid sterling silver. Not plated.
I did read that plated pieces need a layer of copper, then nickel. So... the faker piece I tested was just as it should be. Plated over those two layers.

Yes, but often solid sterling silver marked 925 can still have a rhodium plating to stop it from tarnishing. Apparently, It’s quite popular these days in jewellery stores so their pieces don’t tarnish whilst in display windows etc.

Lol! I guess it is on this round. Hehe. We'll see how it does in the long run. I might have to rethink my shopping tactics. But then again, there is a lot of craft in those cheaper lots so I'm not sure the cheaper boxes will always be as interesting as my tried and true pricey lots. 🤷♀️

Cheri, the Mallorca faux pearls are really interesting. They are made by coating a small glass beads over and over again with a special coating made from fish scales to give a pearl like luster. Seems like it is, or was a labor intensive process with a drying time between coats. Were pretty expensive for faux pearls, and vintage for sure. At least, that's what I remember from research I did a while back. Lately I've had a lot of 925 marked pieces. Really is a terrible thing for anyone to do!

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been getting a lot of fake 925 pieces lately!! Oh no!! I think ebay should not let those certain countries sell a ton of jewelry marked 925 when it is not. But... all we can do is sift it out of circulation so others don't get it.

Does the brass earring with the aquamarine stone have a red stone or is it somewhat orange or brownish red? I was just wondering because it could possibly be carnelian. I have aquamarine earrings paired with carnelian.
Hi Jen. The other stone is opaque and tests in the jasper area. So, I'd say its jasper. But thanks for letting me know.
