    i used to make sinkers with my dad years ago and enjoyed it a about 5 years ago i made a weight for a high powered AR rifle that fit in the but compartment to reduce recoil made a wax cast of the compartment then used it to form a sand mold then pored my lead in it. it worked like a charm and really helped with the recoil I really like your videos.

    If you coat the inside your mold with soot it will release the sinkers easy. I use a burning candle and just black the inside.

    The manufacturer's instructions actually say to oil the core pins, and to pull the core pins from the filled mould before dumping the sinkers out.
    I just did my No-Roll sinkers that way. Worked great. Very easy to pull the core pins. And the mould stays hot, which produces better sinkers and fewer rejects.

    As an expert...😁
    We have skimmed alot of crap outta dirty lead. Also use a spigot style leadpot for final pours. WD40 is used to coat the inside of molds for easier dumps.
    Got everything from jig molds to snapshots. Prefer tiny to 3oz. Eggs.
    400 + lbs of 1/2 inch biscuitpan ingots in stock.😁
    Just thinka the $ you save at the tackle store😊

    It looked like it was working great. I was wondering if you could pull the wire out with the mold still closed. That way you wouldn't have to hang on to the HOT sinker. But it might make it harder to knock the sinker out of the mold. Don't know but might try then use the sprue to pull the sinker out of the mold.
    I have a couple molds to make those led head jugs. They tell what hooks to use then pour the lead in. Then I guess you would get the paint and dip them in. If you made a rack just hook the hooks over it to let the paint dry. If you want to try them out I'll send them to you. I have never used them. Got them at a garage sale several years ago. They look like they may have been made by the same company as the mold you have.

    Get ya some WD40 and a rag. Lay your pins on the rag and give them a quick spray. Then cast your sinker. Now pull the pins out before you open the mold. Hold the handles and bring the hinge portion up under your bench to pull against. Put the pins on the rag and repeat the process.
    Another trick, open your mold over a bucket of water. It cools the lead in a few seconds. Then when your finished pouring for the day, clean the flash off of cool lead with more comfortable gloves. Also lube the hinge point of the mold with WD40 about every 10 pours.
    Love your videos. Hope this helps you and everyone else out there.

    your lucky John, I can't use lead sinkers up here in Maine anymore, they outlawed it a few years back. well let me rephrase that if you use lead sinkers they have to be at least 2.5 inches long or at least an ounce or more, I know big river fishing you usually have larger sinkers, but for the small rivers and lighter tackle A 1ounce sinker is way too much, anyway enuff of my racket jawing nice video have a great day

    You probably already know it, but if you know of a factory that makes windows with diamond lead patterns on them, they will always have short offcuts of lead strip. I did that job years ago, we used to get an oil drum full every few weeks

  • @captainquint
    @captainquint 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used to make a few different types for a local tackle shop and for my own use. I found it fun and saves a lot of money if you go through lots of tackle. If you do this much you'll want to invest in a respirator with the proper cartridges. If it's just a once a year thing, outside with a fan should be fine unless you're young, having kids or a child bearing age female etc. Also any equipment you use like gloves, pans, utensils and such should be labeled permanently for lead use only and obviously wash yourself thoroughly after. Lead isn't quite the deadly poison it's made out to be but it is quite toxic in certain circumstances especially to children. Just use precautions and common sense and have fun.
