2022 BC LEH Mountain Goat Hunt - Hunting BC

2 weeks ago I headed into the rugged and remote backcountry behind Lillooet, British Columbia to try and fill my Limited Entry, (LEH), mountain goat tag.
My friend Tanya came along for the adventure to try and learn more about alpine hunting as she has lots of hiking and outdoors experience, but is still very new to hunting and is eager to take any opportunity she can to learn more.
This trip was definitely a learning experience for both of us, and although I can say my planning was pretty bang on, accessing the alpine was definitely more of a challenge than I’d expected just by looking over the maps and terrain. Everything is just a lot thicker, wetter and steeper when you’re standing in the middle of that drainage. Some decent old horse trails made life a lot easier once we broke out to the base of the alpine, but the 10km working up the drainage was a test and a half.
The views from up top were absolutely worth the effort though, and even though we didn’t manage to close the distance and punch a tag, I feel blessed to have been able to spend time in that rugged landscape and have tried my hand at tagging a mountain goat.
I’ll definitely be back!
