I honestly think landa is better than Thanos. Landa has authority and strikes fear in all of his scenes, even disillusioning the audience into believing him as a charming anti hero. He masks his cruelty in a charming and subtle persona, a calm before a storm.
It’s crazy to think that Anton Chigurh, The Joker, and Hans Landa all came out in consecutive years, No Country for Old Men (2007), The Dark Knight (2008), and Inglorious Basterds (2009) All won Oscars for best supporting actor. And all 3 are considered some of the best villains of all time

@@bcfc2947 None of what you just said was relevant at all. There are no sequels to citizen Kane, it is a standalone movie. Star Wars is an entire universe not just films. The newest trilogy was just am attempt to grab the newer audience and revenue, while the prequels added a whole galaxy. To say the prequels were cashgrabs is laughable, although EP 1 and 2 do look like cashgrabs, however EP 3 the best Star Wars movie made.
Ight, I typically don't care for stuff like this, but seriously? "It would feel cheating to put Darth Vader on this list" just, what!? You left out one of the greatest movie villains of all time because it would be "cheating" This is the greatest movie villains of the century, not the decade As Vader would say "what, how can you do this, this is outrageous, it's unfair!"
cloud1902 Emperor Palpatine is not from his century as he is first and foremost the original ‘70s-‘80s Star Wars trilogy’s main villain, that’s why he ain’t included.
*MY FAVORITES:* Pennywise ("IT") Saruman ("The Lord of the Rings," franchise) Smaug ("The Hobbit," franchise) The Armitage family ("Get Out") Davy Jones ("Pirates of the Caribbean," franchise) Voldemort ("Harry Potter," franchise)
He develops more into between anti-hero and anti-villain as threats to mutants worsen. Plus unlike Thanos when his actions are undone he doesn’t have the ultimate goal in mind of wiping out the entire universe
Gaming With Ryan it wasn’t terrible just bad compared to the og (just like the prequels) but Kylo Ren was a great villain and Adam Driver played him great
It's really funny how in the star wars universe, their greatest characters are always the bad the guys. - Darth Vader - Palpatine - Kylo Ren - Darth Revan - Dooku - Grievous Etc... All the good guys, other than Yoda, are all just so... Meh... Your regular cowboy heroes...
@@Wattywattybangbang well if you based them on the movies yeah, they are. But in general for the star wars universe, they aren't that bad. Much better than Rey, Finn and his white meat boyfriend Poe. Heck even that lady Admiral that decided to crash her ship into the bad guy's is also so boring. The only other 2 good guys from the star wars universe that I consider any much better is Kyle Katarn and Din Djarin aka the mandalorian. Oh and maybe Darth Revan when he was the good guy in the Kotor games. Otherwise all the good guys are so forgettable and so bland. Oh and I know, I know, this video is about the movie universe, but I guys I'm just talking about the Star Wars universe in general.

@@Yougotcaged102 not really thanos is the hero of his own story. joker is the villain even to himself. He much more complex. Also thanos in the movies motive for destruction is different from cannon. Thanos in comics wiped out half the universe to attract the woman he loved lol
Kylo Ren sucks. How in the same hell is he even an honorable mention?!? And yet no Palpatine? Or Darth Vader?? Or Davy Jones??? Or Magneto??!? What the hell!!
Fun fact: Cormac McCarthy originally intended "No Country for Old Men" to be a screenplay, which is probably why it translated so well into a movie. Anton Chigur represents an unstoppable force of evil. The hero cannot defeat it, so the best he can hope to do is escape it, which doesn't always happen in McCarthy novels. This is a very common theme in McCarthy's novels. If "Blood Meridian" could be made into a movie, Judge Holden would probably be number one on the list.
I saw the dark knight In theatres twice. I never really paid much attention to actors and I didn’t know who Heath ledger was, but I’d seen him in other movies, rom coms and such. I wouldn’t ever say I was a fan but when my sister told me he played the joker I couldn’t believe, had to look it up. His transformation and performance should be what actors aspire to be. What he did in that movies alone, in my opinion, makes him the greatest actor in history.
Sidious I get problems with Kylo Ren but personally Thanos is my type of villain and while Heath Ledger was fantastic and I agree he deserves a spot on this list, I also feel his interpretation of the joker gets really overrated. I prefer Thanos more because he has more layers to him as a character, and plus Thanos is the type of villain that’s not just the Avengers problem, he’s everyone’s problem, plus we get to see why he believes wiping out half the universe will be beneficial. The Joker for the most part is just Batman’s problem and a homicidal maniac and he’s a regular human while Thanos is a huge purple dude. and I know the joker wants to try and prove to Batman people aren’t as innocent as he claims but he’s just using it as an excuse to spread chaos.
@@michaelnally2841 Thanos' reasoning for wiping half the universe is illogical. When you remember that the Infinity Gauntlet can double the universe's resources and end so many universal problems without mass genocide, he just comes off as just a raging, hulking lunatic who had a poor excuse to mask the fact that he just wanted to kill everyone.
Loki is interesting, he's just as much a good guy as proven in his last few movies. His sacrifice in IW made me go from liking the character to loving him.
@@archnemesis8271 Yeah, Loki is more anti-hero than a villain. In the first MCU movies he was in, he was a villains100%, but the most recent movies, he has been more of an anti-hero. His sacrifice in IW cemented himself as an anti-hero. you gotta remember though he just had a character wipe in endgame. he came back from the dead but it was his older more evil form.

@@ethanknight1031 Yes I know he is, yet it is the same character. First example Darth Vader is one of the best villains of the 80s. The fact that he was in Rogue One doesn't make him a 2000s villain.
The Boogeyman I think they are only counting those characters from 2000+ like It was rebooted and got a new Pennywise so I’m sure that’s why he was counted, but since Halloween (Rob zombie ones) weren’t really great and the 2018 one was a sequel to the 78 one, it didn’t count as a antagonist from this century

And all 3 are considered some of the best villains of all time
Fun Fact : Thanos is a mutated grape that can talk

Lembrovitas from South Park?
Thanos can beat down the Hulk, but I don't see him lasting more than 30 seconds against Superman.
Oh, man. Jonathan just made a joke and the fanboys can't resist bringing their useless discution about what hero is stronger. I think they will explode if spend a day without saying: "my hero is stronger than yours!" Gimme a break

He is a fan favourite
He won all the hearts
Loki is not a villain.

Palpatine

Magneto
Doctor Octopus
Davy Jones
Javier Bardem in Skyfall
The tether clones
Green Goblin
Ross Tanenbaum I just started - no Magneto 🧲- that a bad omission
Nah fam
Syndrome is an animated character, they said in the intro that animated characters aren’t included
I feel like Magneto out of them should've been on this list
Out of that list magneto and palpetine 100%. Magneto was brilliantly played by 2 great actors and palpetine is just an amazing villain
I noticed nobody is talking about Hans Landa in the comment section. He owns every scene he's in.
Palpatine from Revenge of the Sith shoulda been on the list.
Agreed
@@bcfc2947 You mean ROTS from 2005
@@bcfc2947 None of what you just said was relevant at all.
@@bcfc2947 I didn't hate him in Rise of Skywalker but I also didn't love him in Revenge of the Sith. For me, Return of the Jedi Palps is the best one
LeBron empire was better than revenge of the Sith simply because of its amazing camera work, dialogue and acting
I also really love Barbossa in the first Pirates of the caribbean movie 💖 Geoffrey Rush was amazing.
Until he becomes a good guy by the next four films. I put Davy Jones on my lot.
@@samkresil6011 that's why I said THE FIRST movie.
Ight, I typically don't care for stuff like this, but seriously? "It would feel cheating to put Darth Vader on this list" just, what!? You left out one of the greatest movie villains of all time because it would be "cheating"
This is the greatest movie villains of the century, not the decade
As Vader would say "what, how can you do this, this is outrageous, it's unfair!"
well anakin said that but you know we move
Oh yea it said century not decade...
it means movies from 2000-2099, I know what you mean but what watchmojo means was century as in the 20th century, hence why they called it so far
@@justthinking650 That dosen't even make any sense, why would they do that?
@@Yougotcaged102 idk
I'm shocked that Emperor Palpatine didn't make the list.
Andreea Velcu I agree
cloud1902 Emperor Palpatine is not from his century as he is first and foremost the original ‘70s-‘80s Star Wars trilogy’s main villain, that’s why he ain’t included.
I think it's the same with Vader in rouge one, it would feel like cheating.
I’m pretty sure the prequels is from the 2000s because the 3rd movie was made in 2007
jack g I think the first of the prequels came out in 1999 - but I’m not fully sure.
*Legendary performance of a Legendary character,

Pennywise ("IT")
Saruman ("The Lord of the Rings," franchise)
Smaug ("The Hobbit," franchise)
The Armitage family ("Get Out")
Davy Jones ("Pirates of the Caribbean," franchise)
Voldemort ("Harry Potter," franchise)

King Ghidorah ain't it chief
King Ghidorah was really a good villain, as much as an animalistic, non-talking villain can be.
Nickel Smart do you want a boat ??
I like how this list was bookended by characters from The Dark Knight Trilogy
Magneto?
He develops more into between anti-hero and anti-villain as threats to mutants worsen. Plus unlike Thanos when his actions are undone he doesn’t have the ultimate goal in mind of wiping out the entire universe
@@oxfanblink4115 wouldn't Loki also be considered anti hero?
Dilip Yes so he shouldn’t be on the list
Top 1, Heath Ledger he deserve it 🃏...

Yes
I felt so sad when I found out Jigsaw wasn’t on the list
Leo in Django played that so amazingly well made me forget he was a nice person in real life 😭 A good actor will make you believe !
Ur missing Palpatine from the prequels
Why? Yes the prequels were disappointing but Ian McDiarmid played him perfectly
Sports Trap I 100% agree he is the definition of an evil genius
Gaming With Ryan it wasn’t terrible just bad compared to the og (just like the prequels) but Kylo Ren was a great villain and Adam Driver played him great
Sports Trap him and Ewan were the only actors that played their part good
Gaming With Ryan ... so was the prequels, atleast most of them
Gaming With Ryan they broke the laws of a good film tho
That dance that pennywise did in his hellish looking home was funny as hell
It's really funny how in the star wars universe, their greatest characters are always the bad the guys.
- Darth Vader
- Palpatine
- Kylo Ren
- Darth Revan
- Dooku
- Grievous
Etc...
All the good guys, other than Yoda, are all just so... Meh... Your regular cowboy heroes...
Grievous and Dooku are boring as hell. Han, Yoda, Obi-Wan and so many others are a lot better.
@@chinaman1 salty legends fan? Han is literally one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. Same with chewbacca, c3po, r2d2, luke, yoda, etc. etc. bb8, k2so, beckett, and tons of other good guys are very interesting.
@@Wattywattybangbang it's pretty much like saying I play Alliance on World of Warcraft because they are the good guys, so everyone on the alliance are better than the Horde.

Thanos: I am the best villian and no one from the MCU can beat me
Heath Ledger's Joker: And how about DC?
@Krzysiek Kaminski i am also polish
Thanos wouldn't say that.. He only wants balance, but yes, joker is awesome
@Mayank kanojia ikr
I mean Thanos is still alot more complex then Joker and I feel like his entertainment value and performance gave him a little leverage on this list so I personally feel like a few more complex villains got jipped
@@Yougotcaged102 not really thanos is the hero of his own story. joker is the villain even to himself. He much more complex. Also thanos in the movies motive for destruction is different from cannon. Thanos in comics wiped out half the universe to attract the woman he loved lol
The Fact That The Joker Is Twice On The List Proves That He Is An Amazing Villian
Kylo Ren sucks. How in the same hell is he even an honorable mention?!? And yet no Palpatine? Or Darth Vader?? Or Davy Jones??? Or Magneto??!? What the hell!!
Darth vader isn't in this century. Think before you comment stupid things like that
Magneto wasn't really a villain. Anti-Hero extremist at best but not villain.
Sarah Freedom so is Kylo Ren he even turns into a hero at the end
@@alexherskovits4583 Right, cause RotS, Rogue One and Rebels definitely didn't come out this century🙄🙄 moron.
@@604Beanz he's literally a genocidal supremacist. How is that not villainy?
Fun fact: Cormac McCarthy originally intended "No Country for Old Men" to be a screenplay, which is probably why it translated so well into a movie. Anton Chigur represents an unstoppable force of evil. The hero cannot defeat it, so the best he can hope to do is escape it, which doesn't always happen in McCarthy novels. This is a very common theme in McCarthy's novels. If "Blood Meridian" could be made into a movie, Judge Holden would probably be number one on the list.
Fletcher is what happens if J Jonah Jameson is kicked out of Daily Bugle.

Okay, not dishonorable mentions, they are incredible villains
Robert De Niro as Al Capone in Untouchables is a classic villain performance.
Kylo Ren and the Joker from Christopher Nolan's trilogy.
Thanos: hold my gauntlet
@@michaelnally2841 Nah, Joker is way better than Thanos, but Kylo doesn't deserve to be in the same breath as either of them.
@@dixonb.tweenerlegs4225 I concur
@@michaelnally2841 Thanos' reasoning for wiping half the universe is illogical. When you remember that the Infinity Gauntlet can double the universe's resources and end so many universal problems without mass genocide, he just comes off as just a raging, hulking lunatic who had a poor excuse to mask the fact that he just wanted to kill everyone.
Wow. This channel has gotten better. Much better commentary and I agree with most names on this list.
That line of dialogue still gets me teary-eyed 😭 4:27 Thank You Killmonger!👌
Palpatine from Episode 3 > Kylo from sequels
Heath Ledger as The Joker is legendary but I'm also glad Joaquin Phoenix was in this list too he amazing job as The Joker too
Loki is interesting, he's just as much a good guy as proven in his last few movies. His sacrifice in IW made me go from liking the character to loving him.
I go from loving him.. To willing to sacrifice myself for him, HE IS THE BEST ANTI HERO
@@archnemesis8271 Yeah, Loki is more anti-hero than a villain. In the first MCU movies he was in, he was a villains100%, but the most recent movies, he has been more of an anti-hero. Not a hero but not a villain either. His sacrifice in IW cemented himself as an anti-hero. you gotta remember though he just had a character wipe in endgame. he came back from the dead but it was his older more evil form.
Loki faked and switched sides for four movies and then Thanos cooked his worthless ass
