I'm not a crier (in fact, people think my heart is made of stone), but this song always gets my eyes misty. I don't care what anybody says. Diana does this song the best. Sheer perfection.
Beautiful Layla -- nice picture show for the song.......performed this song many years ago and won for most original rendition,,,,,as Diana....thank you.....
I played this song from "The Wiz" soundtrack in my rental car the last time I flew home for a visit. In fact, the song happened to wind down right when I pulled up to the driveway of my parent's house. A very touching and surreal feeling.
This song has always had such power over me, that I always cry 10 seconds into it, and don't stop until the song finishes -- the song (and lyrics) hit me that strong.
I love this song (especially the version from the movie)! This version has so much power and feeling behind it. I"m impressed that Diana Ross performed it live in the movie, it sounds awesome. I tried finding this version throughout TH-cam, but you seem to be the only one who's published it. THANK YOU! I've been watching the movie for the past 2 days and I keep replaying this song over and over again. Now I can repeat it on TH-cam. Thanks.
When you watch her sing this song in the movie. She just sings it will all of her heart, you can tell. She has tears in her eyes, and sings so full of life. So great!
i love how my marching band actually plays this. it makes out performance so much more moving to have this as our ballad. if only we would have a great singer, and played more of the song.
Thank you layla8398 for posting this. I love this version the best. Stephanie's version is good also but this one is...... wow so powerful! It stills brings tears and chills:)
@wonderboyjoy i agree. diana has been so criticised over the years but she has made this HER version. she sang it wonderfully and in the movie it is a great scene of her giving her all to this song. stephanie also did a great version. I am just glad they made this movie at all and have scene it hundreds of times. i love it in its entiriry.
@skindog4u The song touches anyone's hearts. It is the job of every recording artist to make you feel their joys and sorrows. I read that in Donna Summer book "Ordinary Girl."
Whatever you may think of the movie version of The Wiz (it's a mixed bag - the visual effects are definitely dated and a little low rent), or whether you think Diana Ross was too old to play Dorothy, there's no denying that this is one of the great vocal performances ever in a movie. Ross absolutely nailed Home, and its absolutely my favorite scene in The Wiz.
As much as I love Diana Ross's version of Home, Stephanie Mills brings more vocal power to it since she's the original Broadway Dorothy. Shanice Williams also did a great job with it in the Wiz Live last December!
no disrespect to Stephanie Mills but THIS is the version that makes my soul just melt. especially the last part where Miss Ross begins with "...suddenly my world...." and she builds to that powerful ending. man! still gives me goose-bumps!!
@TheStarceyn100 i think diana's skill has always been that she does not try to copy. she sounds very different to stephanie's version. both are great versions.
Okay you're entitled to your opinion and don't worry I won't vote you down or anything just because of your opinion like some people did mine. It's obvious we have some very immature people on youtube. Thank you for opinion and thank you for your maturity.
For all those naysayers out there who for some fucked up reason, have never liked Diana Ross or never thought that she could sing, well.... just listen to her performance of this song here, because she sure showed them that YES, SHE CAN CERTAINLY SING!
@gudoroh991 And it's okay to criticize your favorite singer/actor, just because I said she doesn't sing this song well doesn't mean I don't like her. I pretty much like all of her songs, I just don't like the way she sings this. Like I said, Stephanie Mills is the stronger singer for this song. Diana Ross did great with Touch Me in the Morning and the theme to Mahogany. Even in Lady Sings the Blues she sung well.
i prefer dianas version, just because someone has a stronger voice than someone else it does not make them a better singer, dianas version is so raw and heartfelt, way better than stephanies.
And guess what, she actually recorded the song as a single and it made number one on the R&B billboard charts, I didn't see Diana's version on any charts. But whatever you have your opinion and I have mine. Stephanie sings this song way better, her voice is stronger and she sings with much more emotion. Just listen to Stephanie's and then listen to Diana's.
In the movie The Wiz, Diana had to sing this song in a lower register than she actually sings, if you listen to her version in Caesar's Palace you will hear a different rendition, if you listen to this rendition you will be able to tell she is not singing in her high register, I believe it was done so it would sound different than the Broadway musical, I have heard her sing Home many times live and she was amazing, if you listen to her vocals in Brand New Day, you'll hear her way up there,
@PolkadotsandLadybugs I don't object to your opinion, but I think Diana Ross sang it better. Stephanie Mills' version wasn't the best. She has a great voice (no doubt), but I feel like this song is better being a more touching/sad song, rather than what Stephanie did. Just my opinion :)
Stephanie Mills does have a stronger voice. And yes a stronger voice can make a song better. Can you picture Janet Jackson singing I love the lord as great as the late Whitney Houston did? C'mon now.
Stephanie Mills is a very good singer; yet is a classic R&B singer. I don’t think Diana is really an R&B singer, although she sings many good R&B tunes. Her version may not have done well then but it was a sign of the times, but has inspired the international community into R&B & the song; whereas Stephanie appeals locally in her community. I do like Ms.Mills Broadway version, but Diana’s live performances are better w/broader appeal. Diana's voice is strong, but soft & so it moves her into pop
@PolkadotsandLadybugs the movie sucked and was bomb. diana sounds excellent but no one would accept her playing the role of dorothy, should have been stephanies role.
Nobody can do this song better than Miss Diana Ross!!! She gives the soul needed for the song......she really makes me think of HOME! Beautiful!!!
I'm not a crier (in fact, people think my heart is made of stone), but this song always gets my eyes misty. I don't care what anybody says. Diana does this song the best. Sheer perfection.
I always get chills when I listen to Diana Ross sing :) She has an amazing voice!
love this song.
I LOOOOOVE this song it never fails to make me smile & really think of home...
I love this movie! Diana Ross was the perfect Dorthy. I still watch this movie to this day. Like if you still into the oldie movies!!
This song has always had such power over me, that I always cry 10 seconds into it, and don't stop until the song finishes -- the song (and lyrics) hit me that strong.
This is a nice house..Love this song!
I love this song (especially the version from the movie)! This version has so much power and feeling behind it. I"m impressed that Diana Ross performed it live in the movie, it sounds awesome.
I tried finding this version throughout TH-cam, but you seem to be the only one who's published it. THANK YOU!

This song makes me all teary...beautiful
I always love this song at the end of the movie 😢😢😢😢it reminds me of my old hometown man I miss Youngstown ohio
Thanks for posting I love this song.
My favorite song from The Wiz, Diana does this song beautiful
I love Home too. My other favorite songs from the Wiz are Ease on Down the Road, Don't Bring Me No Bad News, Brand New Day and Believe.
this brings back so many childhood memories
She sang this song beautifully better than anyone else
When you watch her sing this song in the movie. She just sings it will all of her heart, you can tell. She has tears in her eyes, and sings so full of life. So great!
The way she sings this makes me cry especially toward the end...it gets me every time XD
cuando escucho esta cancion , se me pone la piel de gallina!!!! IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!
i just love this song so much...
great song!
But no one sings this song better that diana ross
No matter what anyone says I think Mrs Ross is still the BOSS
+Shawna Alexander I think so too even if she wasn't the first girl to sing Home.
i like this song so much it makes me cry when i think of home
That was absolutely brilliant! I loved it! I really loved it!
i love how my marching band actually plays this. it makes out performance so much more moving to have this as our ballad. if only we would have a great singer, and played more of the song.
man, just the first few lines got my tears clouding up!
thanks so much, this is by far the best version on youtube!! I don't think many people realise what a powerful voice she has...
I love this song :D
I am so doing this for fall concert.
One of Diana's best songs she has ever recorded. The movie The Wiz had that beutiful ending when her character finally returns to her home.
Beautiful
love this version so much and the movie!!
I agree I love this song.
This was in the Jackson’s American dream film. I love it
I love it also very much! And the movie is stunning :)
i love this song and video so dang much
This has got to be the best song in the entire movie. :')
this song always touches me then i start crying :'(
Thank you layla8398 for posting this. I love this version the best. Stephanie's version is good also but this one is...... wow so powerful! It stills brings tears and chills:)
This song was also on that one movie The Jackson movie: An American Dream
that song is from Diana Ross from the Wiz movie it's where Michael is sitting down with Bubbles in the rocking chair.
your welcome
kanna231 no I think that is a different woman singing that one from An American Dream. Not Diana nor Stephanie Mills
Alex Rodriguez fr same
i love this song thanks :)
LOVE SONG
YOUR WECOME
I just dream to skate this song for years! Maybe I will!
thank you x
still looking for that place.... I can call home
@skindog4u The song touches anyone's hearts. It is the job of every recording artist to make you feel their joys and sorrows. I read that in Donna Summer book "Ordinary Girl."
thanks for the lyrics you posted!
i love this song im working on it for my auditon of the wiz hope ill be dorothy

this song makes me happy 0:)
@Minan3
The Heavens are listening to u, help is on the way, hope has come and love is with u and ur family.
BEUTIFUL!!
@CurveAngel Lol. If you start singing Oh God I need this Job from A chorus Line I'm gonna hurl.
I NEED THIS PART!
Many people have given their spin with this song even Whitney Houston but Diana owns this song no one can sing this the way she can.
Stephanie Mills originally sung Home and Heather Headley did a good job with Home too.
no disrespect to Stephanie Mills but THIS is the version that makes my soul just melt. especially the last part where Miss Ross begins with "...suddenly my world...." and she builds to that powerful ending. man! still gives me goose-bumps!!
@Minan3 omg me 2 the wiz is my favorite and i love singing along to the songs in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band.
Indeed! :)
Love it, that's my girl lol
@courte28 i completely agree..i can only think of him when i hear it. :(
no oscar 4 this movie!!!!!! no way!!!!!
@huneakari19 Agreed...I love watching the classic movie channel...the quality of the movies back then was so much better than today ♥♥
@chadishot Me too. I honestly think It'll take centuries to top her performance in that song.
@TheStarceyn100 i think diana's skill has always been that she does not try to copy. she sounds very different to stephanie's version. both are great versions.

*A* Saddest song -sob-

Can you believe that Diana Ross is the only cast member of this movie who's still alive?
I hear ya, brother.
nice 1 of 2
@marioferguson yes i totally agree with u!!
I Really do prefer Kristin Chenoweth's version, Even tho this version is amazing! Cheno just goes one step futher and actually made me cry a bit. lol
i prefer dianas version, just because someone has a stronger voice than someone else it does not make them a better singer, dianas version is so raw and heartfelt, way better than stephanies.

i love barbra striesand version...
@courte28 tht would have been perfect :)
..."time is my friend..." Quantic- "Time is the Enemy"
@marioferguson TH-cam took all the others down yet ignored all the live recordings lol
Telling a person to shut up is very very mature (sarcasm). I have a right to my opinion and if you don't like it then I'm sorry for you.

@yukiaime the wiz, 1978 motown production
:) x
@PolkadotsandLadybugs I don't object to your opinion, but I think Diana Ross sang it better. Stephanie Mills' version wasn't the best. She has a great voice (no doubt), but I feel like this song is better being a more touching/sad song, rather than what Stephanie did. Just my opinion :)
i like the glee version a bit better...
@Tom6093 LOL!
I don't care what anyone says Stephanie snags and owns this song.
THIS IS MINE
And by the way you misspelled the word VIDEO.
real black music!!!!
Stephanie Mills does have a stronger voice. And yes a stronger voice can make a song better. Can you picture Janet Jackson singing I love the lord as great as the late Whitney Houston did? C'mon now.
Wow so I guess I don't have a right to express an opinion huh?
If u think this is good, PLEASE LISTEN TO STEPHANIE MILLS, SHE NAILS IT. Hey, this is ok, but Stephanie (VEVO) takes you to a different place, WOW!
@PolkadotsandLadybugs the movie sucked and was bomb. diana sounds excellent but no one would accept her playing the role of dorothy, should have been stephanies role.
Streisand's version is way better and greater.
No likes... 🤣🤔🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
