Dogs DO NOT 'live in the moment', they have long term memory and know exactly what is going on around them and who is around them (past and present), how can he even claim that, when he also claims to train dogs, because if they only 'live in the moment' then training would be absolutely impossible. He should NEVER be left alone with a dog ever again...

Veterinarian here. People often don’t correctly understand the term “dogs live in the moment”. What that means, is dogs and most animals do not think about the future as we humans do. It doesn’t mean they don’t remember things, or us. They very much do remember the past, as they can often have PTSD from past trauma.

All animals have a memory. I had a dog stolen & when I finally found him. A cop made the guy release the leash & my dog ran straight to me whining, jumping up, & barking extremely hyper to see me after 4 yrs of separation. So yes dogs have huge memory banks.

Dogs definitely get separation anxiety and/or depressed without their person. My family was evacuated due to fire. The camp grounds we stayed at wouldn't let us have our dogs or cat, so they were boarded at the ASPCA for 2 weeks. They started acting sad right away, and started acting depressed and scared 2 days in (according to the shelter staff). They were so happy to see us and be home. A year later, I went to the ASPCA to donate food, and my dog recognized the building from the parking lot and started whimpering and hid under my seat. So I know my dogs remember me and remember being away.

Dogs do not live in the moment. They may not have a concept of time but they don't live in the moment. They would never survive if they did because they wouldn't remember past events and would continuously put themselves in the same danger over and over. And dogs absolutely do have separation anxiety. Before I got my dog she was locked up alone and starved for months. Now any time I go out I can hear her crying all the way from my apartment to the elevator (about the width of 10 apartments) unless I give her anti-anxiety treat.

These dogs are CLEARLY traumatized from the "training" they received from this man. We own Aussie Shepherds. They are HIGHLY sensitive, intelligent, beautiful animals and dogs DO INDEED get separation anxiety. I was listening to the dogs during this court session. Those didn't sound like happy sounds he was making...NOT AT ALL. Those sounded scared, stressed, highly anxious and as she reported from when the man returned the dogs, the dog wanted to be RIGHT NEXT TO MOMMY. And training dogs with a shock color is a CRUEL and VICIOUS method that SHOULD NOT be done and I ABSOLUTELY believe her when she says the dogs came back with burns on their necks. Victoria Stillwell WHO IS a competent dog trainer has attested to this.

The fact that the so-called trainer claims that dogs live in the moment and have no separation anxiety, shows that he would be better off working at a place like Walmart opposed to working with animals.
If they only live in the moment, and they have no memory… Then what would be the point to training them as they would not remember what they had been taught.
I have watched many dogs over the years, suffer greatly when their owners, or as I call them family members, are not at home with them.
Their reaction shows the very obvious fact that they are missing and thinking about their loved ones.
If I even go to the store, my miniature poodle will drop his head in a state of depression, sadly wander off to my chair, get up in it, and that is where he sits until I come home. He also will not eat or drink anything if I am not there.
When I walk in the door, he is all over me!
He was also taught several tricks as an infant, as I like to refer to him as. He has never forgotten anything as far as I know of, including a family member that was not so nice to him when they came to my house, and eventually told to get out because I didn’t like the way they got on with my dog. My dog comes first.
This guy has no clue about animals whatsoever. He has just found a way to try and make money the easy way, and hopes that people won’t recognize that he cares less about animals and that he is just hoping to scam them out of money.

You can NOT expect a animal to listen after 4 weeks of training. This takes time and if the plaintiff can NOT control her dogs then should get a smaller breed or don't have any dogs. It's irresponsible

Quality remote collars do not burn skin. It's contact sores from being left on too long, getting wet, being left dirty or untrusted neck. Lazy trainer. Stimulation is clinically tested and do not burn produce heat. The dog scratches obsessively and the sores become aggrevated. Still a lazy trainer to not properly move it around, remove and clean the area several times daily.
Separation anxiety is real. Either a nearned behaviour or it can be genetic, and Aussies are genetically prone to it, inexperienced owners commonly nurture and reinforce anxiety, thinking they can console them like a human.
Seems like a totally lazy trainer though. Parasites could be from dirty water bowls/animal poop but the puppy dehydration could have been simply from diarrhea. Both plaintiff and defendant are ignorant.
    Just had to say that.

I strongly believe some dogs have separation anxiety.. I work at home in an office and my dog will cry at the door for hours just to come lay on the floor by my feet. I go to the bathroom and he does the same thing at the bathroom door.. Just saying.. I've owned dogs my entire life and almost all have done that.

Board and trains are largely a horrible idea. As a veterinarian, I have never seen a dog go to a board and train and come back better. Ever. They come back sick, injured, fearful. Every single time they are worse than when they went. There is a reason this guy doesn't want his name full revealed or his facility, because this isn't his first issue with his "training" and he doesn't want to be found out. He is a fraud who has no idea what he is doing in order to train dogs. He was just training them basic obedience, you don't need a shock collar to train a dog to sit, lie down, place, come and walk on a leash. You just don't.
Dogs most definitely do have separation anxiety, this guy is an absolute fool. I hope he has since closed because he shouldn't be around any dogs.

  • @departmentofredundancydept4121

Oh look, a "trainer" who didn't keep up with current research on dog training. That's entirely too many that don't actually look at current research and then they end up harming the dogs.
Plaintiff should've done research on this "trainer" before sending her dogs to him.

Trainers can't guarantee results in a certain amount of time. That was his mistake. No trainer can guarantee results.
And she was outraged about the shock collar, yet she approved of it. She had regrets afterwards, probably because of the money, but she was right there with that man with the band decisions.

    • @VladmirPoopN

She said she was ok with a shock collar "if it was necessary". But yeah, I guess it's her fault for not explaining her expectations of what 'necessary' meant.

Dude, you didn't want to name off your company for dog training because ANYONE would run away from your place.
If you cannot understand even the *_basics_* of dog behavior or emotions capabilities, you shouldn't be attempting any sort of professional training at all.

IMO JM’s weakness is when it comes to ruling on dog cases. The way I see it is the plaintiff is a total spaz and the dogs feed off that energy. So often on dog behavior shows it boils down to a hyperactive woman creating a stressful environment for the dogs. I’ve also lived it first hand.

He’s full of crap-They do have separation anxiety. I would NEVER use a “trainer” who doesn’t have empathy for a dog. Dogs don’t just live in the moment…how would they ever get trained if that’s what they have? It’s completely different…living in the moment the dog wouldn’t remember what he had trained him. Hello?? I know it’s behavior modification, but personality and memory are required for training.

I agree that training doesn't stop once the trainer is done. A lot of dog owners don't understand this, which is why having the dogs LEAVE the home for a long time doesn't make sense vs owners + pets going somewhere together getting trained- together!
She seems very high-stress, and dogs will pick up on that before humans do (e.g. her husband gladly taking the papers she shoved at him).
Idk about the dog-trainer's qualifications and abilities but she should vet people before surrendering her pets for a whole month.
I think he should've got to keep at least some of the money, for boarding them for a month.

Ugh! I hear this stupid crap about dog anxiety all the time. My bf wants to take the dog to a daycare so hes not alone. It's way too expensive and not necessary. He doesn't even do anything. We've watched the camera and he lays in his dog house or lays in the house. My bf says he's depressed. I say he's a dog. I'm not putting him on meds and paying 1000 a month for transportation and daycare. Relax people they are dogs. They will love whatever existence you give them. 🙄
