- The ultimate surf trip through California continues in Encinitas, where Hunter Jones and Lex Weinstein enjoy the wide variety of breaks in this artistic, stylish, laid back San Diego beach town. They surf with former CT star and Momentum Generation icon Taylor Knox at Tamarack, meet up with Tim Hurley at Pipes to give him the Saltiest Local Award, and visit the Sea and Soil garden collective just up the street from the iconic wave at Swami’s. To cap off their time in Encinitas, they surf with Mario Ordoñez-Calderon and the groms from the Un Mar De Colores organization at Beacons, and test out the post-surf burritos at Fish 101.
Encinitas is the traditional and unceded homeland of the Payomkawichim people, who are also known as Luiseño as a result of their history with the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. The seven bands of Payomkawichim are Pechanga, Pauma, Pala, Rincon, San Luis Rey, La Jolla, and Soboba located within today’s San Diego and Riverside counties. Payomkawichim people also acknowledge that prior to its name of Encinitas the land was shared territory with the Kumeyaay.

That’s actually pretty funny.
The environmental activist has it all figured out! C’mon just enjoy life treat people the way you want to be treated and stop taking yourself so serious. Searching for surf and burritos, wow you are just killing it girl. Love Encinitas but I’ve had enough.
As an Encinitas local, was bummed to see them feature a Carlsbad break when we’ve got so many good ones that are actually in Encinitas. Swamis seems like the obvious choice, but if you want a pro why not get Rob at Seaside? Just weird. Featuring a burrito from a seafood restaurant was also an odd choice when we have so many great taco shops.
Was thinking the same thing. Fish 101 burritos arent the best IMO
Fish 101 instead of El Nap? How about featuring the burrito spot that’s actually Mexican? Also Tamarak is not Encinitas it’s Carlsbad. North County isn’t all Encinitas.
Don’t tell them let them go to fish 101!

I am a Cardiff native and find it very odd to focus on a break outside the city limits with a surfer(no disrespect to Taylor) from also outside the city limits.
Lived in Encinitas my whole 39 years. Don't recognize any of these foos. Should have visited The Flats.

I grew up in north county San Diego lived there for 16 years I’m 22 and I love the people of Encinitas and always will the most welcoming People I’ve ever met knew rob Machado’s niece in high school such a great group of people

I'm aging myself here. Anyone remember the odd guy that would always talk to himself in the lineup at Swamis ? We used to call him the mumbler. This was back in the 80s. Or the hippie dude that lived in the bamboo down on the beach. Or the way back anyone remember the red house that used to be in the parking lot at Seaside and the angry wood carver there? That guy hated kids. That's back when San Elijo lagoon had huge billboards
The bamboo bum days are long gone. Had many exciting moments looking through bum huts as a kid.

Tamarack is in Carlsbad. I know this because I lived Chinquapin and Stone Steps Encinitas surfing the spots as a kid. Living Oahu for 15 years now. Surfing sucks, don’t try it!

I thought Encinitas was rich at first but it’s not at all. I wait on these ppl and they are far from rich. My average Bellevue Washington table was 20 Encinitas is like 6 to 8 bucks. It’s not horrible but not millionaire status’s like Bellevue
I wouldn’t call Encinitas a rich community as someone from a very rich community Bellevue Washington it’s more middle class then rich. There’s some rich ppl but it’s a mostly poor city.
