I audibly "awww!"ed when she said that (and let loose some more tears, because how can you not?). I'd seen a clip with the Asriel story, but I didn't know she'd gone full pacifist right from the start. I should never have doubted. Seriously VTubers are the greatest thing to happen to Undertale let's plays in years. English speakers can be great, but they pretty rarely cry. But I swear Undertale broke 75% of the Hololive streamers so far, and that makes me feel something for them I can scarcely put into words...
I'm not saying that the other Holomems were playing the game wrong, but I feel like Watame connected the most with the themes the game was trying to explore. Her playthrough was by far my favorite and seeing her raw emotion made me fall in love with Undertale all over again.
Rushia might have gotten hit hardest by Sans' judgement, but from what else I saw, that impact didn't translate to a ton of patience for the P Route, especially locked at 20 health when she had been used to way more.
You should catch up Subaru's playthrough thought, she grew really attached to the characters and also did her first run as quasi-pacifist (0 EXP). Her final fight with Asgore was a struggle, for the whole game she could talk her way out without fighting, and there for the first time the game forces you to "kill" the enemy by hitting it. She didn't know that, and died repeatedly because she tried every possible thing except hitting Asgore...
I think it is a strong hit for Watame because of her family circumstances, but the way the game presents itself is another good reason as well, now Rushia...I felts that she played the game how Toby Fox intended the wey she started as...well a normal game but then she started to see that...perhaps this is not as any other game
@@KingShinyRotom from what I can tell this is Subaru's favorite game. Kanata mentioned this before starting with undertale (not sure since my japanese is bad). Besides that Pekora used a lot of her gameplay to explore almost everything in the pacifist end. That takes a long time and not many people do. I would like to think she did it because she enjoyed it and was curious about everything changing.
@@principalflame5199 Yea, when san's said to her something along the lines "You killed you brother, you shit human" She fell silent until she encountered Asgore, probably coming from the fact she has a deep bond with her brother.
People are so used to and so spoiled by what they saw and seeing, that they forgot to use their ears once in a while. I know people are listening to songs and music, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about closing your eyes, once in a while, and listen to the birds chirping (or as Asgore and Sans put it, "It's a beautiful day outside, *the birds are singing* and the flowers are blooming."), or to the sound of raindrops hitting the earth, the pavements, the buildings, or even to the sound of locomotives passing by down the streets or somewhere in the distant. Undertale, and also many video games and even movies that succeeded in these regards really, are the little reminders for us to also pay attention and take care of our ears.
I think Toby probably could have looped the segments a bit better so that they transition only when the dialogue advances, to account for reading speeds. It's perfectly timed for reading normally, but Watame's pauses to cry totally destroyed the timing, lol.
Really. Her reaction when she saw the Butterscotch Pie and the wavering in her voice when she mentioned she never killed anyone because Toriel taught her not too were 2 of the major points for me in this
I really love when people develop a level of attachment this strong to a game like Undertale. I love seeing that stories will always have the power to make us feel genuine emotions and in a way bring out our 'true selves'. It can be very discouraging to see lots of people tear a story/game apart in terms of things like structure or code, or see them be violently amoral and apathetic about all the characters and events. But knowing that people can fall in love with worlds and people that are made by others... It makes me happy. And it gives me hope for the worlds that I may create one day.
If you love games like this, I also recommend Nier Automata. If you can, go into the game as blind as possible. Also, I suggest Spec Ops: the Line as well, also being as blind as possible. They are some amazing stories that really touched me.
"Cause Toriel taught me not to" That shit fucking broke me. I come from a very hateful family. Constant infighting and bickering. No one from my lineage ever seemed truly happy. Except for my mom. She was a candle in a sea of darkness. While she could be spiteful, she also did everything she could to keep not only to keep family friends happy, but also did whatever she could to bring a smile to a stranger's face. Last year I lost her to Sarcoidosis. She had to not only carry around huge oxygen tanks wherever she went, but she was also stuck with an ostomy bag hanging off her stomach. But not a single time in the 17 years she fought for her life did she ever let it keep her down. She was constantly up, doing her exercises, helping out the community, and raising me as single mom. Of course she cried, but her smile always made a quick recovery. "Cause Toriel taught me not to." I'm currently stuck in a dead end job, struggling through school, and trying my best to get a show off the ground. But I refuse to give up. My mom taught me that no matter how much shit life throws my way, there's no reason to give up. There's always a reason to keep smiling and spread love wherever you go.
I hope things have gotten any amount better for you over these past months. If not, then use them as a reminder that you can keep going. You’ll get through everything and come out of it on the other side
This comment is 2 years old, but i hope wherever you are right now, that you're in a happier place in your life and a better situation. Hugs to you man.
I can only imagine the kind of childhood that Watame had to live to feel so emotional, Sans words mean a lot more to her than anyone else, let's always do our best and support our sheep and all the girls
Not for nothing, when she's told the true meaning of EXP and LOVE, the way her voice quavers hits me just as hard as the ones everyone else talks about. Just the way she seems legitimately shaken by the reveal, even as it becomes apparent she had nothing to worry about herself. Toriel-mama raised a good sheep.
I just noticed something. Unlike most of the other members who referred to Toriel as "Mama", Watame almost exclusively refers to her by name. Almost as if she's a person rather than a character.
Kinda glad she didn't experience the killing Papyrus or Toriel route, and even happier when she said she will not do the genocide route. Genocide route is bad enough, but the "spare everyone but Papyrus/Toriel ending" scars me for life. I really felt my sins crawling on my back.
I think the one that would hit the hardest here is "spare everyone, but kill Undyne." Undyne's neutral death is pretty heart-wrenching in and of itself, but it becomes worse when you talk to Papyrus over the phone in the ending. Sans doesn't hold it against you, so rather than throwing you under the bus he decides to lie to Papyrus about what happened to protect you both. If THAT doesn't make the player feel like subhuman garbage, nothing will.
Haha I yeah I just started obviously and I wasnt sure what to name the channel but as I was getting ready to learn how to sub/clip I watched this part of her playthrough so I just went with it. Her playthrough actually is what finally motivated me to stop procrastinating and start subbing.
Really love how Watame play the game, she really into every games she play, just her sound alone already make me emotional Now I want to see Okayu play this after seeing this, she the same type as watame when playing story telling rpg game. Some might think she cool but Okayu cry a lot when playing these type of games and she remember every detail of the game she play currently.
Okayu already played Undertale a long time ago (not on-stream) so I doubt she'd do it again. Okayu was the one who recommended the game to Subaru back in the day.
She's one of the sweetest and wholesome people I've met. Whether it be the several other games she got emotionally invested in like this, her interactions with fans, or just talking about the difficulties of life she really is a blindingly bright star.
She's so pure and adorable oh my god. I didnt cry playing this game, but I did love the characters. When I did the Genocide run I didnt cry but it made me feel genuinely depressed for like a week. I hope she doesn't do that run, she would be way too sad :(
While all of the Hololive members’ Undertale streams were very fun to watch, Watame’s time with the game was truly something special as I feel she most deeply connected and loved its world and characters. Watame truly has such a huge heart to allow herself to be openly moved by this wonderful game. I’m very glad it gave her a lovely experience, perhaps even more than the one she provided us. I have watched a majority of the girls who have played it and I agree. she got incredibly immersed and it made for a truly wonderful playthrough both for her and for us to witness. Her connection and immersion to this story and its world is what motivated me to finally start making clips. Clips from me may be slow cause I dont have that much free time and I likely wont upload a clip of something someone else has already translated but hopefully I wont let you down!
Watame streamed the P route the day after, she was crying at the end, chat was also telling her to consider skipping the G route. After the stream ended, she tweeted that she decided to not play the G route.
I can't imagine how hard it must hit on those who actually killed. I mean, sure, to many it's just a really good game with meta elements (and it's not bad to see it that way tbh) but I can imagine that some people were heavily affected by Sans' judgement when they've killed monsters. I've never finished Undertale, but had I played it blind before it got popular, I'd probably get a huge existential crisis over it.

when she was reading the history of asriel and chara i know she was going to cry a little, but when I heard her between sobs and with a fragile voice I started to feel very bad
It's not that Watame doesn't have the power to fight. She just doesn't want to fight those who hurt her. What's great about Watame is that she never blame anyone who has hurt her (so much that everyone worries). But if someone hurts and enjoys others, Watame stabs it with her proud horns. She only attacks those who hurt anyone other than herself. Watame has the "determination" to devote her life to the smiles of others.
just in case here (SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF UNDERTALE AHEAD) I didn't include it but at the end she actually doesn't spare Flowey. She said something along the lines of "I have spared every single person so far but you, alone, are unforgivable." And when she was talking through her choice she said one of the main motivations was because Flowey killed Asgore. Also later when she gets the Pacifist ending she actually hesitates to spare/comfort Asriel for just a second because he was Flowey but then she said "he shows remorse, Flowey did not, so I'm going to forgive him." So yeah tl;dr you're right lol
She reminds me of my mother. She gets SO easily emotionally invested in a fictional plot. I haven't gotten her to play this game yet.... maybe I shouldn't. She would probably be just as emotionally compromised as Watame herself. There is no doubting the love in Watame's heart.
Watame is one of my favorite Vtuber. Why, you ask? First Undertale playthrough was straight pacifist. No leveling whatsoever. Full of not lv...but love.
That's one of my favorite things about this moment. She learned in the very beginning from Toriel that you can progress without fighting and immediately took that to heart and never broke it (except for Flowey lmao). But when Sans recognized her pacifistic efforts and she got choked up and said that line about Toriel.... thats just pure love. She's such a good girl.
Thanks for the translation, I'm happy you didn't just copy-paste the original English parts where the Japanese translation of the game differs. Alway love to see what differences there are!
I appreciate this clip bc most clippers just paste the English text box over the Japanese dialogue but I know that the JP localization of Undertale was done with lots of care and reads slightly different in a lot of places, so I’m always interested to read a direct translation of what it says, as a monolingual Undertale fan and appreciator of the nuances of language But buddy. ‘You’re’ is a shortening of ‘you are.’ The word you’re looking for is ‘your’ which shows ownership. (I promise I’m not insulting you, you’re far more skilled in two languages than I am in one, just thought you should know going forward) :)
My pervert armpit-liking sheep can't be this cute and wholesome. also the fact that she genuinely thought that EXP and LEVEL meant Execution Points and Level of Violence, shows how little she knows about games and how Undertale has shaken her perception on it.
And that's why I think she would be unable to do the genocide route, you need to be heartless and evil but watame is literally the opposite, she would feel really bad
Playing Undertale is always amazing, but I think I lost something cause most of the game was spoiled for me by the time I played it. Seeing Watame react so genuinely and emotionally is such a different and sweet experience
When she said “cause toriel taught me not to” oof my heart
That response from her was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to make this entire clip
*In tears* "Yeah! That's right! Momma didn't raise no bully" *sniff*
I swear Watame is the IRL pacifrisk

She said something along the lines of "I have spared every single person so far but you, alone, are unforgivable." And when she was talking through her choice she said one of the main motivations was because Flowey killed Asgore.
Also later when she gets the Pacifist ending she actually hesitates to spare/comfort Asriel for just a second because he was Flowey but then she said "he shows remorse, Flowey did not, so I'm going to forgive him."
So yeah tl;dr you're right lol
Never have I identified with a sheep more.
This is game is the most meaningful thing I’ve ever seen
Bro I almost cry...
She reminds me of my mother. She gets SO easily emotionally invested in a fictional plot.
I haven't gotten her to play this game yet.... maybe I shouldn't. She would probably be just as emotionally compromised as Watame herself.
There is no doubting the love in Watame's heart.
Well done! Truly fantastic!
The moment I see the channel's name I know I have to sub
Last few minutes couldn't read the subs, my eyes suddenly became wet and blurry
Watame is one of my favorite Vtuber.
Why, you ask?
First Undertale playthrough was straight pacifist. No leveling whatsoever.
Full of not lv...but love.
That's one of my favorite things about this moment. She learned in the very beginning from Toriel that you can progress without fighting and immediately took that to heart and never broke it (except for Flowey lmao). But when Sans recognized her pacifistic efforts and she got choked up and said that line about Toriel.... thats just pure love. She's such a good girl.
Good to know I wasn't the only one who cried his eyes out during this part of the game lol

Thanks for the translation, I'm happy you didn't just copy-paste the original English parts where the Japanese translation of the game differs. Alway love to see what differences there are!
Watame was made for this game, or maybe vice versa.
She's such a kind girl.
I appreciate this clip bc most clippers just paste the English text box over the Japanese dialogue but I know that the JP localization of Undertale was done with lots of care and reads slightly different in a lot of places, so I’m always interested to read a direct translation of what it says, as a monolingual Undertale fan and appreciator of the nuances of language
But buddy.
So does anybody have any footage of her True Pacifist ending, like the "secret" dungeon, and the true ending, etc? Would very much love to see that.
bless this sheep
If you're still around, I'd love to see more subs from you.
And that's why I think she would be unable to do the genocide route, you need to be heartless and evil but watame is literally the opposite, she would feel really bad
This is the first time I saw her why Im crying?
I didn't cry when I played the game, why I'm crying now?
sammeee
EVERYONE, REPEAT AFTER ME!
"WATAME DID NOTHING WRONG!"
I love the UNDERTALE music
Playing Undertale is always amazing, but I think I lost something cause most of the game was spoiled for me by the time I played it. Seeing Watame react so genuinely and emotionally is such a different and sweet experience
i always saw watame as funny watermelon sheep
Sheep also remembers her Mama Goat *excuse me while go cry*
God Undertale is such a great game, it's sad how it's reputation is slightly tarnished because of parts of it's fanbase
Cause toriel said not to.. yeah.. that was my reason too.
