Hi fam,
“Hotel California” has got to be my #1 most requested guitar solo lesson of all time, and I’m happy to finally put it up here for you. The jam track and TAB are available for you on the Guitar Fam site, and there are also a few new features in the video to help make learning faster and easier. Let us know what you think, and send us any other guitar solo lesson requests you may have.

This song is excellent for working on bending and using pentatonic scales and arpeggios to play over specific chord changes. The best advice I have for you is to listen to the solo A LOT before even starting to learn it. Also, take it one measure or lick at a time. That will make learning the whole solo more manageable.
Have fun, and let us know how it goes,
Nate

If you are having trouble with any area of playing the guitar, book a private video lesson with me. The first one is complimentary, so there is no risk.

Man i looked through a ton of vids on how to play this solo. Yours was by far the best by not only having tabs but by explaining everything I love you❤
One of the best lessons on HC solo. Many thanks, Nate!
Very welcome! Thanks for watching.
I completely agree!
Thank you so much for the theory! You are original on here by actually explaing the scale and notes and including the chords. It took me an hour to find your video. Cant wait to watch your next one. THanks
I was looking for this song solo in guitar but no one had like thet perfect lesson
thenk you so much for teaching us
Sure, thanks for watching.
I know someone complained about the “thinking”, but it’s awesome! Helps adds value to what you’re playing instead of blindly following a lesson with no context. Thank you, you’re awesome!
Yeah, there are probably a couple of hundred videos on YT that teach you where to put your fingers, but I like doing more than teaching people how to paint by number. Thanks for saying this and for watching.
@@TheGuitarFamthank you!!
This is a really very good lesson. It is a tough and complex solo and to be able to play it is my life dream, guitar wise
You can do it.
Maybe just the best classic solo lesson ever!!!
Thanks for saying that Daniel. :D
This is awesome! Not just the normal put your finger on this fret/string but the theory behind it. Although a beginner could follow along it gives a lot more info on the underlying scale patterns and chords behind the notes. Also, love the tab with the chords and scales on them. Hope you're still making videos because I'm going to check them all out. Great stuff
Thank you for showing the scales and the solo and shapes!.. so helpful!
Sure. I really like doing videos that show these types of things. Thanks for watching.
Great video I love the in depth theory! It teaches you how to be a MUSICIAN not a poser! 👏
I really liked how you described the scale and chord shapes the solo is playing over. It helped me understand the song instead of just what notes to play.
One of the most in-depth analyses of this difficult and classic lead. Thanks.
Thanks for watching.
Brilliant tutorial, thank you.
Thanks for watching.
One of the best tutorials ever.... many thanks ... best regards.
Thanks for watching.
thank your for your teaching sir. I am half way to master this. althoght it's alreadt two weeks I am watcing this video
Great Lesson Nate. It´s a great song to learn scales, shapes and how the solo connects with the hamonic progression.
Yeah, it was really good for me to listen and dig in to see how these guys think about playing over chords.
The chord progression is so important to internalize. Thank you.
Probably the best instruction for this solo ' Fantastic '
Exelente Maestro gracias
De nada.
Great Lesson. Complete and very well explained. Thanks !
This is just what I was looking for, in my opinion the "thinking" part is the most invaluable thing about this! I love the side diagram of what scale/ chord position we are in, it helps us improvisors know where we are meaning we could put our own stamp on it!
Subscribed!
Thanks for watching. I really like teaching like this and picking apart the solos.
Great lesson, and your telecaster looks outstanding and sounds the same.
This was extremely helpful and I greatly appreciated the thorough explanation. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you!
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Understood it nicely... ! Thank you so much
Most welcome!
Detailed and well-explained construction of this epic solo! It made me subscribe this wonderful channel.🎉 Hope there’ll be a solo lesson “ Don’t Cry” by GNR.
Thanks for watching Vince.
What a wonderful song
Holy shit!!! That intro was amazing I keep playing it on my ear phones!! WOW!! Cheers buddy love ya!!
Beautiful playing, just what I needed
Thanks, and thanks for watching.
What a great lesson and, what a great teacher!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching.
who actually played the solo on the album? just wondering.
Don felder and joe walsh
dude this is so awesome that you provided the sheet music underneath as a piano player
Thanks for watching.
watching from Australia! love your channel! so helpful! cheers!!
Thanks for watching.
The Masterclass.
Excellent And Awesome. Solo for hotel California. Cheers. Ans All Good Wishes
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the tutorial 👍👍👍
Fabulous playing and fabulous lesson. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Scott. You are welcome.
This is fantastic, thank you Sir
You are very welcome
amazing lesson. thank you so much.❤💯👏
Glad you liked it!
what a great way to teach, lets you know exactly where the lead comes from
Thanks for saying that and for watching. I like to do more than just walk people through TABs. This method takes more energy but it really gets you to where you can do things for yourself.
great job 👏 thank you
Welcome 😊
Perfect can’t wait to get this
Great! ❤
Very good. Thanks❤
Im a beginner so im not sure but how does your bend have such a high pitch? Does it have to do with the tone ur using, cus when i hend the pitch doesn't go nearly as high as in the video
You need to make sure you're in tune, on the right string and fret, and you need to really push the bend
Está muito bem explicado parabéns pelo seu trabalho
Muito obrigado por assistir.
@@TheGuitarFam melhor do que isso é impossível, só se a aula fosse presencial.
Cool.
Yo. The best explained lesson. Cool.men
Thank you
Good stuff my man
great lesson combining with all of the chordal and pentatonic structure!!! One correction tho, Don Felder and Joe...not Glenn and Joe ;-)
true and felder and joe were the best duo I have seen, what a shame they pushed felder out
👌
Hell yeh. What a great job. Can you do a few Terry Kath solos. I'll subscribe so I don't miss that.
My mom was a huge Chicago and Cetera fan when I was growing up, so this might be a possibility.
Nate excellent lesson can you play Spirit Carries on by Dream Theater
nice full watching
I have no idea how anyone can grab that B string while bending the high E on fret 17. Blows my mind, my action is at a normal height. 27:15
Thật bổ ích ...xin cảm ơn
very Nice…hi Bud can you do Larry Carlton’s ROOM 335 whole leaks slow by slow…thank you very much
Amazing lesson. Sadly my e string popped from prolonged sessions lmao. Any gauge you would recommend to prevent that from happening?
It just happens sometimes. As long as it's not happening fairly often you are okay. If it's happening a lot, you may have a sharp piece of metal or a burr that needs to be looked at. Thanks for watching.
Can i learn this after a year of learning?
what’s the tuning though, no one ever mentions it and i have to go looking for it
Standard
That run that starts around 1:05 sounds similar to one in classical music. I unfortunately can't remember the song. Maybe it was this? th-cam.com/video/KyWOIKCtjiw/w-d-xo.html

Can just explain the note that need to be played instead of explaining what you think and shot if you know what I mean thanks
There are loads of other videos and channels that already do that.
You better pay to learn mate,
You can't show some respect and appreciation?
this video is to get better
Thank you for your lessons and time. I love how you explain.
Ignore this dude Nate, this lesson is killer, thank you for posting.
Really hard to find solo tutorials that not only show how it is played but also why it works in context of scales and theory (helps to steal and reuse ideas in my own improv haha 😊).
Where have you been all my life?
Thanks for watching.
Your technique is good but so many notes differ from the original piece, so imma look somewhere else . Thanks though
Don't think to much and play the way it is.
Yep, that's what made me give up on this.
👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
u are fantastic! what guitar model and pickups is that sounds so fab....great teacher! hey from nyc
Thanks for watching. That's my oldest and least expensive guitar. It's a California Series Tele. It's got some DiMarzio noiseless single coils in it.
