Gualtieri's 5 minute explanation is actually 6:35 minutes but it was indeend great, even a practicing non-tech social worker such as me could understand and needed to, thanks Mike
loves the funkybeat at the end, hadoop> faster batch processing via mapreducing large datasets. Not good for adhoc queries like relational databases, although some startups are working on such query functions, "hive",
the recent WSJ article has stated hadoop as being very slow when multiple users are interacting with it. can ssd or flash technology help with large files and huge data sets?
Question: If Hadoop "lets you store" large data sets in thousands of nodes......who owns the nodes? There must be some cost involved in order to get to store the data..right? Can you please explain? Thanks!
It's a good intro but still leaves a few things unclear in my mind. Those from the Relational world know that there is a clear modelling process, based on the business requirements. So, focusing purely on a ROLAP solution, where ER schemas would be used (Star-Snowflake Schema etc) to clearly present how the data is related and can be interrogated (ACID etc). An application is normally the conduit for data, into the RDBMS, but how do we decide what data Hadoop will utilise and how it will process this big data. Where does the data come from, what source(s)? Both 'Relational' or 'Hadoop' share the commonality of using Data, to produce information to derive Knowledge, regardless of architecture this is the common goal.
It's been a while since this video posted. Still a gem that seekers of the content appreciate so much.
