Awesome Sameer. I'm a SQL BI Developer just starting to investigate Big Data. You have such a nice ability to make the complex seem simple. It's a real gift for any teacher. I appreciate it.
Hi Max. Yes, the client connects directly to the DataNodes to get/put the blocks. However, before the client goes to the DN, it first goes to the NameNode to get a list of locations to write the block to (3 DNs). The NN is not in the read/write path as far as the block goes. Client just have to go to the NN to find out where to do the writes.
Sameer Great job on delivery of content and knowledge! One tip. when presenting stay to left or the right of the screen. Too much movement across the screen makes it difficult to follow what you 're saying as one may end up focusing on your constant moving back and forth.
This is literally the best presentation ive ever seen regarless the subject of Computer Science. Thank you very much. Extremely helpful for my Big Data Uni exam
New to Hadoop and watched this video the first time and completely understood the whole process and architecture behind it - great video, please let us know when you are going to do more of these.
Great intro to Hadoop. This talk was specific enough to be informative and useful without information overload. The Yahoo example was a very interesting real-world example, also. Thanks very much!
I really like the way you presented the information. It's easy to understand and analyse the contents you were talking about. I appreciate and thank you for the information.
I agree this is certainly the best and professionally clean and detailed tutorial I have listened to. Thank you for simplicity and friendly knowledge sharing :)
Thank you very much for this video. I am new and still confused. Does anyone know any resources that differentiate between the 'big names'? (Hadoop, HBase, Cassandra, etc.) I'm looking for something that explains overlap in features and differences in use.
Hi bhayz00, that's not an easy question to answer in a comment. Hadoop (HDFS+MR) is just for batch analysis like doing full scans of your files. HBase and Cassandra are both column family databases for low latency (
Really awesome demo. It is more helpfull to understanding Hadoop concept. I have one question, when client reading the data from data nodes it will read the data parellely or sequentially? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for very good explanation of Hadoop HDFS.. I really impressed with your way of presenting.. Hope to see more videos on different topic of HADOOP.. Thanks again sameer for your time in sharing great knowledge with us.. :)
Good job, keep it up Sameer, It could be helpful too if you could tell on what basis the client and NameNode decide which DataNode should be contacted first during read operation( suppose the data block is on node 1 3, 7).
Great presentation.. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain this. Was a bit freaky in a capturing the audience kind of way when you did the disappearing act..
I really liked this tutorial, it is very clear. But as a microsoft BI developer, if i want to learn Hadoop, where exactly i need to start from. Would you please suggest me.
Hi there. Google didn't release the C++ code for GFS, MapReduce or BigTable, but Apache has open-source implementations of these in the form of Java based HDFS, MapReduce and HBase.
Awesome. Bring clarity & connection from theoretical to codes. Next maybe automatic upload to HDFS rather than manual. Will tune for next Hadoop tutorial.
Very helpful tutorial! One question. How is it possible that i have less blocks than the number of files? Shouldn't every file break down to at least 1 block? Which means blocks >= total files?
Hadoop is installed and seems to be running normally, but I get an error 'No such file or directory' whenever I try to 'hdfs dfs -mkdir ~/test' Permissions are set for full read/write/executable under the same account that I'm running hadoop. Even creating the folder outside of hadoop, I get the same error. Any ideas why this command is failing?
Gr8...stuff Sameer...it helped me understand and I believe it helps others too to begin with Hadoop ! Cheers...and Looking forward to other sessions from you
Hey, Sameer - good presentation. And a quick point about you moving around, which someone criticized. I think you _should_ move a bit rather than standing like a wooden block. Especially when you are presenting to a room of people, if you stand in one place then some people won't see. If you move, they get a chance to see the slides. So, keep it moving. ;^) And tell Alex and Rooz that Chris Bedford said Hi.

nice presentation.Read, write, blocking & distributing of files concept described is very good
very good tutorial , without indian accent
only you care about accent
hear hear! says someone who in general can't even say "thanks" that's even partially understandable!
Really awesome demo. It is more helpfull to understanding Hadoop concept. I have one question, when client reading the data from data nodes it will read the data parellely or sequentially? Thanks in advance.

Great tutorial, step by step, clear and easy to understand!
Good job, keep it up Sameer, It could be helpful too if you could tell on what basis the client and NameNode decide which DataNode should be contacted first during read operation( suppose the data block is on node 1 3, 7).

Hi there. Google didn't release the C++ code for GFS, MapReduce or BigTable, but Apache has open-source implementations of these in the form of Java based HDFS, MapReduce and HBase.
Thanks for the first intro. Lots to learn. Good job.
Very good presentation and explanation. Awesome Job. Thanks!!!!
Since I dont have any programming back ground , what level of Java programming skills is needed to learn hadoop development ?
Nicely executed and informative video! One question though, is it possible to re-build the name node from the cluster should it fail?
Awesome. Bring clarity & connection from theoretical to codes.
Next maybe automatic upload to HDFS rather than manual.
Will tune for next Hadoop tutorial.
It is truly great presentation and indepth explanation in HDFS.
one of the best tutorial till now :)
GOOD JOB Sameer :)
Very helpful tutorial! One question. How is it possible that i have less blocks than the number of files? Shouldn't every file break down to at least 1 block? Which means blocks >= total files?
Well designed. Clean and neat video. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry, I don't understand - client connects directly dataNodes to get/put data?
Or he operates with nameNode only?
Hadoop is installed and seems to be running normally, but I get an error 'No such file or directory' whenever I try to
'hdfs dfs -mkdir ~/test'
Permissions are set for full read/write/executable under the same account that I'm running hadoop. Even creating the folder outside of hadoop, I get the same error. Any ideas why this command is failing?
Fantastic presentation.. Very clear and cool. Good Job!!
