@@GoTraveler As a die-hard Bourdain fan I cannot thank you enough for posting these upscaled videos. I have the entire Cook's Tour collection on DVD but I think they're only 480p. This is just such an important thing you're doing, IMHO. This old Bourdain stuff is a true treasure.
For me, without doubt and hands down the best South East Asian food. Brilliant, thank you Vietnam for letting me live, work and eat in your amazing country.
All these restaurants which were in this original AB’s show are still here today, but the host has gone to a better place, we will remember you Mr. Bourdain
All the supposed aphrodisiacs are bogus macho displays, usually laced with cruelty. Actual stimulants would be high in protein and vitamins. Alcohol is an anti-stimulant!
I miss Anthony everyday. Watched all his shows from No Reservations to Parts Unknown. I assumed that this was when he fell in love with Vietnam. What a true iconic voice. Rest easy sir
I kind of feel sorry for those folks that crossed paths with Anthony and they never had a clue who he was,not that I met him,but to me he comes thru as a dude that just speaks his mind.
This was entirely new to Americans at the time, wasn't it? I mean, travel in Vietnam, the food. Tony even pronounces the famous pho incorrectly. It was all still so new. I remember watching this with my wife, who was a huge fan of Food Network. She found Tony off-putting at first - too New York, too hipster, whatever - but she came around soon enough. I remember us agreeing, Vietnam looks amazing. It was still unknown to most of us.
Great show. Just an idea: Could you include a time stamp on this title so I know when this show was made. It must be produced few years ago because Mr Bourdain loooks so young.
I felt unbelievably awkward as a grown man having another grown man pedal me down the street. Amazing food and culture though. The smells are very unique. Not bad, just unique. I got hooked on Vietnamese coffee and have been ever since.
I lived (and worked) in Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia priceless, it was even better 15 years ago. Vietnam is a fantastic country. I love it and always go back, I have seen and lived it to the extent.
He really did make an excellent point about how western culture doesn't give a second thought about eating oysters, clams, lobsters etc. So what is so gross about eating grubs and snakes?
I think that's why we love Bourdain, his logical and unbiased comparison of Eastern and Western culinary cultures - like when he said expensive food in the west is someone famous putting a special sauce on an ordinary thing.
Been to Vietnam and Thailand over 90 times….believe me, the thai food and people are so , so much better….street food in Vietnam is not great….look the same , but they AINT……talking food poisoning here…up to you guys.
Snapping turtle heart will continue to beet for about 10 days when put under running water...maybe needs to be kept damp entire time...and snake needs to be marinated ...buttermilk works or pickled..
I did it. It's like I eat oysters, I dont chew them. I lived in Vietnam. Anthony was a classic. In Cambodia we munched on tarantulas, that was a bit too much but thank God I was boozed up .
He talks of our system...it wasn't mine. I grew up on a farm. After married more than half of the meat on my table was brought in with either my 16 gage or my husband's 12 guage...or the end of a rod and reel. But I really get a kick out of watching someone that has always had his meat and dairy products delivered to his business, home or market..
He said it right, it’s just a different culture..... I probably try the heart , fried bones and fried meat but the soup or sushi or that big grub? No thanks! Hahahahaha....
@@runswithraptors There are all sorts of diseases all over the world, but the US is doing a pretty good job inspecting meat. Do you think there's a USDA inspection on cobra and dogs?
@@taotao98103 if we were to serve cobra etc. Yeah usda would want to control it. Those snakes are farmed. Chicken used to spread H5N1, pork is H1N1 even though pig, chicken are farmed, wild salmon has parasites. Everything could has a disease whether you eat it or not. Especially if they are from wild not farmed.
Tony's "Don't forget me, I will never forget you" always gets me
me too, =( still here 2024

This is suuuuuuuuper calming. Thanks Tony, your aura lives on.
I miss this guy so much. I resonated with a lot of what he would say and inspired me to live life and enjoy the world in a special way.
Thank you for sharing! He touched so many lives.
Abundant thanks for making these early Bourdain episodes available.
I found myself watching all of these. It's sad that we're only appreciated after death. But also beautiful.
Same.
I loved him when he was alive🙏🏽
Ever since Don’t eat before reading this dropped, I became a disciple of his. Lucky me
Oh I loved him more when he was alive or the same anyway

I think Vietnam Cuisine is on the edge of world's seat! Very impressive

Waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for the 🦂 kabobs, and all we get is a beating 🐍❤
I love this episode.
The world is a poorer place without Tony, RIP and learn from him everyone
In the Philippines they make that fertilised duck egg too.
Called 'Balot'. Mine had little webbed feet hanging out of it.

15:44 Minced Bat lmao, the subtle foreshadowing
“This makes me wish I had a bigger family so I could bring them all here”
If you only knew Tony..
the kind of comedic genius i aspire to be

Yes, it was from 2002-2003. He was definitely younger.
wow they have "balut" in Vietnam as well. That's a filipino dish

My little doggo also loves grubs. She agrees with Mick Dodge that they taste like bacon.
do someone know what is the name of that music played (ska/reggae) on the snake eating part?
Goddamn he looks good

when are make this video ? in the 90' ? i suppose

It’s your opinion and you cannot force your opinion on others. I prefer Vietnam over Thailand.

It’s good.
Anthony is very respectful as a guest. Unlike vloggers today,. Urghh
The cobra heart? Revolting. Terrifiing. I must try it.
Nice pfp
WOW he's so tall but you rarely see it in action 13:11 the height contrast is startling
Yes, Bourdain was 6'4".
These used to be on Netflix
First time seeing clay pot rice where they break the clay pots.
I have no idea how he slurped up that Cobra heart. Still beating... He was so brave. I couldn't do it.

Rest in peace Madam Gao.
and Tony of course
damn the snake heart... i see now why Tony smokes so much
Madam Gao’s food is making me salivate.
At least you’re not eating McDonald’s or KFC…..a lot, lot more scarier..
Was he on Heroine at that time? He looks like it...
Woah! Not only no but HELL no!
he was defiantly wasted!!!!!!!!!!
No disrespecting to Anthony, but it's eating weird animals like that, creating SARS and COVID.

A cobra is a weird animal? Eating animals doesn't create disease, pathogens that infect the animals are the disease.
