Lost in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan? 🇰🇬

  • Upon my arrival in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan I went for a walk around the city center and sampled some local drinks and food. One of the most popular drinks in Bishkek is Maksym, you find it almost on every corner of the street. I decided to test it and I must say it is an acquired taste that I didn't acquire yet. I've also tried aralash which is a mix of maksym and chalap (another popular drink in Kyrgyzstan). You'll have to try it yourself to really know how it is.
    In the end of the video I tried Beshbarmak which is the national dish of Kyrgyzstan and also Kazachstan apparently. It's with horse meat and dough pieces.
    Enjoy watching!

    OMG! Bishkek is my hometown, I am homesick, far away in Toronto. Oily dough pastry is called "boorsok", the girl, who explained how to go to the restaurant, actually suggested it to you. Please try also "Güro lagman" or just "lagman", you might like it. I hope you had a good time in Kyrgyz Republic, always welcome back.

    Quick correction on traffic lights. I have been coming to Bishkek for 25 years and now I live here as a retired American. There are traffic lights at all intersection for pedestrians, you have to look straight ahead and you will see the signal for pedestrians, look up for the signal for vehicular traffic. The government has exceeded safety standards on traffic signals. Most TH-camrs arrive in Bishkek and speak without truly looking around and understanding their surroundings, Drivers are no crazier than the USA and Europe. It is a shame to misinform about Bishkek. Take a deep breath, look around and enjoy the moment before video taping. Once you see, then you will understand Bishkek for the beauty and wonders of this incredible country. As a retired American in Bishkek I am honored to live here and appreciate the people of this splendid country.

    It is impossible to draw superficial conclusions about the country. You could learn a few words before you go to this country. Your country and ours are completely different and cannot be compared. In every country there is both good and bad. You will not be able to understand or see the peculiarities of any country in one visit. Regarding the places of food in the city there are a lot of cafes and restaurants in which a great variety of Asian boyud is delicious and not expensive. There are many beautiful places to relax in nature.

      @walking-talking ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timtense Kvass is a drink that was initially created in Russia during the soviet period if i recall correctly..
      However it's still very popular in the country and is also made and sold in some other slavic nations in Europe and exported as well.. etc.
      Instead of "Cola" the Russians drank Kvass!
      If you like Kombucha, then you'd enjoy it.
