      Most people don't put down road base, but we only want to build these driveways once! Thanks for watching.

      Glad you enjoyed it. We have several videos on our gravel projects....here's another one: th-cam.com/video/Y3eNXzum-uQ/w-d-xo.html

    It's pretty well distributed.
    I agree with Deb, it looks like dirt with little rocks 😊.
    I will also wait for the final product.

    The whole point of road base is that it’s compactible but still allows water to drain through it. Then top it with whatever surface you want.

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      It tightened up with the first rain. With the finish gravel on top now, it's much more solid than I expected.

    Brad a land plane really works great on gravel driveways. Thanks for the good videos.

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      800' of our driveway is asphalt millings so that's not gradeable. The limestone that is in the next video tightens up....not sure a land plane would work on it. But I don't have one to try.

    Good job Brad. What you really need is a Landplane. You'll need to maintain your driveway and that will do the job perfectly.
    Tractor hard!!

    A, slow down a bit. B. control the spread rate with the draw bar hydrolics. C. go in more then one direction and the waves will go away.

  • @WalterPidgeonsForge
    @WalterPidgeonsForge 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Consider a hydraulic top and drop link for your 3 point if you are going to do more of this kind of work.. works perfect to add or maintain a crown.. and air up the tires to the max as well.. it helps with the bouncing wave issue with the box blade.. you can also set your FEL to level and skim the gravel with it .. that in effect gives you a longer wheelbase.

    Man, I’m trying to get my RV pad right, I just got 22 tons of gravel today. He couldn’t really spread it with the truck because it was a tight area with a powerline above. Tried raking it by hand almost killed me. I need to get this thing before they deliver my metal Rv carport shed combo. Because they will not install it if it’s not level within 3 inches. And this red clay in NC is tough after the rain. Rented an excavator and did more harm than good. Need a tractor with wheels like yours. June 3 is deadline.

    I find if I need to move material over material that is already down that I'm better off just to use the bucket.
    For the box blade an addition to your tractor that is well worth the price is a hydraulic top link. This allows you to adjust how much the box blades scalps off the ground vs how much it releases at the touch of a button, while driving.
    If you have to add an extra hydraulic function to make it work, you can help justify it by using it to control your new grapple (which is by far the most useful accessory, even though they aren't cheap).

      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      We need rear and front remotes....one day maybe. Or just buy a new tractor!

    Looks good Brad. There is an art to tailgating gravel. The first driver was really slick at it. The second driver not so much. You dressed it up purdy good buddy.

      It hung up in the bed bad for the second driver!! Thanks for watching!

  • @JustCaidsDayFarm

    It looks like you have it pretty smooth. I am by far no expert at all, but I have found that if you tilt the blade back once you get a rough grade the front blade will be up a little and the back blade will be touching. Then I put by 3 point all the way down and the material will roll under the front blade and spread with the blade on the back of the box blade. So essentially I tilt my box blade forward to grab material and move it where I want it then I tilt the box blade back to feather it out at the end. It looks like you did a great job and I can't wait to see the finished product! Take care!

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Justin. The biggest thing is when the tractor wheels hit a dip or bump and the blade digs in. It was a tight area to work, but we got it right eventually! Thanks for watching.

  • @HamiltonvilleFarm

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would need rear remotes first Hank!! We ain't all fancy at PG with our tractors like y'all. Thanks for watching.

    • @Slider68
      @Slider68 ปีที่แล้ว

      My prediction: when you do eventually add a 3rd hydraulic function and a hydraulic top link (and a grapple) you will be kicking yourself for not buying them sooner....
      Maybe you'll get enough TH-cam revenue to pay for them and will then be able to generate more TH-cam views showing how useful they are.

    Did you use float on the loader when backing up?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The tractor has it but I like to feather the loader and apply pressure to cut. I've tried float but never got the hang of it.

      A box blade is definitely good for a driveway that's already compacted where you can fill in the low spots, you can drag off the high spots in fill in the low spots a box blade is especially good for that, it would get kind of expensive to bring in a maintainer but that's the right way to Blade your driveway I would just take your time with a box blade and just practice you can make it work
