Watch "The Inside Look: Bittersweet Symphony." Dylan knew when he signed on that his role would be for only season, and he knew early on that Cam would die by suicide--though the other cast members were oblivious. The writers said that the Cam character was created specifically because they wanted to touch on teen suicide. They considered backing off because of Cam's popularity with the fans and their own love for Dylan, but they knew they had to commit to get the message out there.
This is a really powerful scene. I mean, they had NO IDEA that Campbell was going to be killed off. Just like they didn't when JT was gonna be killed off. The way "Drew" and "Katie" react once he reads the line. Shows it.
It was weird seeing Adam's character actually dressed as a girl..I mean I know Jordan is a girl but we are so used to seeing her play a F to M trans on the show! she's done an amazing job playing the role of a guy!
Chelsea Patricio Maya actually mentioned him in season 3 of Next Class where she pointed to the greenhouse and was walking 🚶 on the steps while talking to Saad about how she was supposed to meet her boyfriend there and that he killed himself in the greenhouse
Cam's familiy lived pretty far away (if I remember it right they said Kapuskasking, which would be a ~9 hour car drive away from Toronto), and since I'm sure his familiy wanted him to be buried at his hometown, Maya would rarely have the chance to visit his grave...
Dylan played the part of Cam perfectly. This whole episode weighed heavy on my heart and it really hit me how death can effect everyone. Suicide is such a preventable thing yet such a hard thing to predict. You never know how sick someone really is until it happens. I applaud the actors and writers for telling such an amazing and important story. By far one of the best episodes in franchise history!
The read through for when the cast found out about JTs death was more emotional. Literally almost everyone there at the read through began crying. I thought the cast would start crying during this readthrough too, but they really didn't. I feel like there was a lot more passion in the earlier seasons of Degrassi.
I think it had to do with the cast knowing Ryan Cooley for a long time and they've worked together for years while they've only known Dylan for a shorter amount.
yeah not the same :) ryan cooley play 6 years grew up with the other actor Cam caracter wasn t "that" important I mean for the mental disorder the plot was more on caracter like Eli you know.anyway maybe working more on his caracter might had been great to who know
Nelly - Covers&Songs yea exactly! the actor Ryan, who played JT literally grew on the show! We have seen him on screen for all those years and we all developed an attachment with the character because of how long he was on the show. But Cam was on the show for like 20 episodes while Jt was on 83!
OMG I miss Cam SOOO much!!! Can Degrassi bring Dylan Everett back and make Cam a ghost haunting Maya about dating other people or something!!! Dylan is such a good actor!!!!
I love seeing the cast's reactions! It's interesting to imagine how shocking it was for them without the promos, and knowing much talks is coming, and a week break to speculate and trying to convince yourself there's hope! I had that feeling in the pit of my stomach from the moment I saw the first anything can happen promo until Mr. Simpson made it final. This was a great episode and I think from the writers to the actors everything was truly great!
I've always wanted to see a table reading. I love it not just to see the characters in first time action, but to see how they react and I love it because their reactions are like ours so thank you super much for this upload
Thank you so much for posting this! This is exactly the kind of thing I want to see- behind the scenes, raw talking, actual reactions. There's nothing better than truly feeling in on the action at Degrassi, and this was the perfect way to capture that.
i still havent been able to watch this episode without crying... i almost started crying when they showed dylan reading the message for the video of cam for maya
Oh, definitely!! I also wish we had seen more into his depressed psyche, but I think the reason the writer's opted not to show that was they didn't want viewers to relate to a suicidal character. Too much risk of copycat suicides. I'm hoping that what we didn't see with Cam, we'll get instead from Eli.
I would react the same way. I have before even for just plays or musicals or even films I have done. It is horrible but I think you guys did an AMAZING job. I agree that every way of grief is covered. From close relationship to an outsider that didn't know Cam. Amazing job and please keep up the great work on degrassi.
Thumbs up for what Jordy and Munro said. Amazing episode, i was eating dinner while watching and i just completely forgot to eat cause i was just so into it. Ramona, who wrote the ep and the rest of the writers, A ++. This ep goes down in degrassi history.
it's the day after this episode premiered and I can't even think straight. all I could think about was this episode. I just wanna break down and cry. i haven't been feeling myself because of this. I've never cried so much over a tv show. I'm gonna miss cam :c & I'm gonna miss dylan, I don't want him to leave!
this episode has literally changed me. it made me think about how easily someone could be gone from your life forever. i'm so sad cam had to die, but it was an amazing character and i think people will always remember him.
AS much as I hate that Cam's character had to die, and that Dylan isn't going to be on the show anymore, I'm so happy with how this storyline seems to be going. It was so well done, and the acting was amazing. It gave me chills and I was sobbing throughout the whole episode. I'm interested to see how this effects the rest of the season. This reminds me of Rick's storyline, which was one of the best. Well done, Degrassi
I wish Maya would've talked about her more in the later seasons. sadly she has graduated and idk if she can but it would've been nice to hear them talk about him.
This is why I love Degrassi, they don't just cover the point of view everyone is EXPECTED to have. They cover all of the different ones. It helps me be comfortable with my opinion and not make me feel like im wrong or heartless.
This episode was so amazing. I just wish we were shown just a little bit of how Cam was before he did it, what he was thinking about. Other than that, fantastic episode!
Am I the only one who thinks that all of these events occuring in season 13 and 14 are basically just leading up to the reveal of Cam's suicide to Miles and Zoe?
+Miss Anonymous (ik im really late) maybe, like i think one day she might get overwhelmed again and get really upset and start yelling and crying like she did in the episode with her mom and Katie but in front of them
Is there a reason why Jordy is here while Adam didn't appear in the episode and others who did appear in the episode are not here? Thank you so much for posting this! It is really cool to see what happens behind the scenes!
A little bit, yes, he was away from his family so that he could play hockey and he felt pressured to be the best on the hockey team. Earlier on in the season we actually see him jumping of a balcony in the school, so that he wouldn't be able to play hockey anymore.
Have to agree on covering different points of view, was really nice, even if we didn't get to see more into Cam's psyche. I laugh when I'm sad so I don't have to cry. People think there's only one way to grieve, anyone who grieves "abnormally" is judged and distanced from everyone else.
This story isn't just about the death of Cam, on Degrassi Talks they even said it's about tragedy but how every person reacts differently when something such as a suicide happens, it's about the effect you'd have on someone after you've committed suicide or even attempted it. Notice Dallas took the blame, he became angry at everyone including himself while also being consumed with grief. Alli was bargaining, she should've tried to help more and if she did he'd be okay. That's the story here.
I would have loved to see more of Cam's inner struggles too somehow (even though the last season or so did show a great struggle) I just wonder what was the "boiling point" for him, and what he did...although they couldn't prob. have delivered the shock value if they showed that part.
+ecofriendlyhippie with the foreshadowing implied when Cam cuts his hand on the skate and kind of stares at it for a moment, and then almost does it again on purpose, not to mention eli having such a reaction to red paint, he most likely used his skate to do the same to his wrists.
I agree, it was speculated that it was foreshadowed earlier in the season (When he threw the skate and it cut his hand in the locker room) that he died by some sort of cutting.
I feel bad that Maya had to choose between Cam and her audition, but I'm glad she chose Cam. However, now that she didn't get to do that, she won't have anything productive to do to take her mind off Cam and that leads to her... becoming Manny-ish
Omg the looks on everyone's face when they realize Cam just got killed off the show literally made my heart drop
3 saddests episodes
1. Jt's death
2.cams death
3.adam's death
Dylan is such a good actor.. I miss cam so much!
I remember watching Bitter Sweet Symphony and it changed me.
+Shaniall.26 yeah me too.
He is amazing it took me awhile to realize he plays a teen version of Dean Winchester in supernatural
Watch "The Inside Look: Bittersweet Symphony." They considered backing off because of Cam's popularity with the fans and their own love for Dylan, but they knew they had to commit to get the message out there.
3:50 Little did we know that Jordan's character would die a season later. PLOT TWIST.
i'd love to see the table read for that episode!
saddest episode ever. and I loved Cam so much. I miss his character.
I wish they would have showed Dallas going over his breakdown scene in this read through
trudy06 same
Outstanding. They did better with showing the aftermath of suicide then 13 reasons why.
This is a really powerful scene. I mean, they had NO IDEA that Campbell was going to be killed off. Just like they didn't when JT was gonna be killed off. The way "Drew" and "Katie" react once he reads the line. Shows it.
Dallas' reaction breaks my heart every time :( so raw, and such good acting not only out of him but out of everyone on this show.
Season 12 was one of the best seasons of Degrassi ever
I literally tear up when Chloe touches Dylan on the shoulder.
It was weird seeing Adam's character actually dressed as a girl..I mean I know Jordan is a girl but we are so used to seeing her play a F to M trans on the show! she's done an amazing job playing the role of a guy!
I miss cam 😭😭
They need to mention cam more like have Maya visit cams grave
Chelsea Patricio Maya actually mentioned him in season 3 of Next Class where she pointed to the greenhouse and was walking 🚶 on the steps while talking to Saad about how she was supposed to meet her boyfriend there and that he killed himself in the greenhouse
Cam's familiy lived pretty far away (if I remember it right they said Kapuskasking, which would be a ~9 hour car drive away from Toronto), and since I'm sure his familiy wanted him to be buried at his hometown, Maya would rarely have the chance to visit his grave...
I miss Cam..
I love it when chloe reads her line and puts her hand on dylan. aww. that's so cute. I will miss him.
Dylan played the part of Cam perfectly. This whole episode weighed heavy on my heart and it really hit me how death can effect everyone. Munro's nervous leg :( he so knew!!!
Trisha C some people do that to help them pay attention.
Adam at the read through talking about life bein taken away T_T
Chloe's reaction to it all was the best.
The read through for when the cast found out about JTs death was more emotional. Literally almost everyone there at the read through began crying. I thought the cast would start crying during this readthrough too, but they really didn't. I feel like there was a lot more passion in the earlier seasons of Degrassi.

I think most of the cast was just shell shocked, considering this storyline was hidden from everyone apart from Dylan
Ryan was on the show for 5season and Dylan on for 2
OMG I miss Cam SOOO much!!! Can Degrassi bring Dylan Everett back and make Cam a ghost haunting Maya about dating other people or something!!! Dylan is such a good actor!!!!
"I thought something happened to jake " haha I would cry though
Anastasia Williams yeaa
LOL in a fit of rage, Campell killed Jake in his own garden.
Haha
I love seeing the cast's reactions! It's interesting to imagine how shocking it was for them without the promos, and knowing much talks is coming, and a week break to speculate and trying to convince yourself there's hope! demetrius joyette gave me chills!! He's an amazing actor!
"I thought something happened to Jake" lmao I love how Justin looks at her and is like....Whoa what why me, Olivia? Lmao
We read four episodes in the readthroughts, so this one was for both Degrassi: Las Vegas and Bitter Sweet Symphony
I agree! it's amazing to see that the actors are just as stunned and moved by the plotline as we the viewers are!
Thank you so much for doing this. This was great, seeing how the actors themselves felt about the whole episode and their own thoughts on everything.
Ryan Cooleys was pretty sad. Everyone was really emotional and the song is really sad.
I wanna know wtf was happening to munro's hair during this read thru hahahahaha awww
HeyItsMeeTee yea exactly
Thank you so much for posting this! This is exactly the kind of thing I want to see- behind the scenes, raw talking, actual reactions. There's nothing better than truly feeling in on the action at Degrassi, and this was the perfect way to capture that.
This was such a great storyline for Dylan. I'm gonna miss seeing him on Degrassi as well as his character. Bravo!
dang even watching the read through makes me want to cry
Luke looks heartbroken
I totally cried watching this read through! :'( Degrassi does a fabulous job of making real life situation appear REAL instead of sugarcoating them.
Can you guys film more read throughs? It's so neat to see the actor's initial reactions to everything.
Jordan Todosay was in this read through but didn't appear in the episode
"I thought something happened to Jake"
LOL Olivia
Could you possibly post the read through for Adam's death?
i still havent been able to watch this episode without crying... i almost started crying when they showed dylan reading the message for the video of cam for maya
absolute favorite video, so uncut and real and ugh this cast is perfect
Oh, definitely!! I also wish we had seen more into his depressed psyche, but I think the reason the writer's opted not to show that was they didn't want viewers to relate to a suicidal character. JORDAN TALKING ABOUT LIFE BEING TAKEN AWAY SO SUDDENLY :/
I Cried When Cambell Died
Morgan Peebles i didn't
MA!N B!TCH Why not. it was so sad I was crying when I watched the epsoide.
it's the day after this episode premiered and I can't even think straight. all I could think about was this episode. I just wanna break down and cry. i haven't been feeling myself because of this. Degrassi should've at least had funeral for the character. he did die after all
when jordi starts talkin aboout the death of a character....... istarted bawling... R.I.P ADAM
Am I the only one who thinks that all of these events occuring in season 13 and 14 are basically just leading up to the reveal of Cam's suicide to Miles and Zoe?
+Miss Anonymous (ik im really late) maybe, like i think one day she might get overwhelmed again and get really upset and start yelling and crying like she did in the episode with her mom and Katie but in front of them
Abby's been giving us such great material on this TH-cam channel! Hopefully it continues! :D
"I thought something happened to Jake" LOL OLIVIA. I CAN'T WITH YOU RIGHT NOW. XD
This broke my heart
And then when they moved on how Aislinn looked over at Munro (I think) Like wait did I miss a page??? What's going on.
Omg i freaking loved this :) I want to see more read throughs!!!
The cast of Degrassi should have a meet & greet all over the U.S.. I would so go to it!!
Totally random :) In past seasons it used to be organized by storyline but now it's random.
Literally been crying all day :'(
Is there a reason why Jordy is here while Adam didn't appear in the episode and others who did appear in the episode are not here? Thank you so much for posting this! It is really cool to see what happens behind the scenes!
my love for dylan can't be expressed !
Someone should give dylan an award I mean his acting trought the hole season was AMAZING
Thanks for answering!
Was Dylan Everett okay with leaving the show? How did he react when he found out Cam comitted suicide?
A little bit, yes, he was away from his family so that he could play hockey and he felt pressured to be the best on the hockey team. Earlier on in the season we actually see him jumping of a balcony in the school, so that he wouldn't be able to play hockey anymore.
Have to agree on covering different points of view, was really nice, even if we didn't get to see more into Cam's psyche. I laugh when I'm sad so I don't have to cry. People think there's only one way to grieve, anyone who grieves "abnormally" is judged and distanced from everyone else.
It's sad but this made me cry harder than the episode. Still mourning. Let me be.
I really miss Cam! XC

is that really eli
ha ha im actually crying and im not okay

I really want to know exactly how Cam died though
+Erika Hernandez i don't think so... in Eli's dreams he sees a lot of blood and there wouldn't be much blood if he hung himself
oh okay haha
+ecofriendlyhippie with the foreshadowing implied when Cam cuts his hand on the skate and kind of stares at it for a moment, and then almost does it again on purpose, not to mention eli having such a reaction to red paint, he most likely used his skate to do the same to his wrists.
I think he may have hung himself...
Jacklynn Endsley he also could’ve used garden tools to cut his wrist also. I feel like he could’ve gone anywhere if it was his skates.
:( I LOVE YOU CAM!!!!!!
munro is so cute
That's terrible. :( I agree it's sad that Cam died and I almost cried too, but I don't want Eli to die either. ;( suicide is so terrible.
Can we have a table read for Adam's crash too? Or death in Honey? :(
❤Miss cam
MY EMOTIONS.
Did they ever say how Cam killed himself??
+seniorqueen08 I think they said he hanged him self but idk
+Amanda Marie no there was blood
I agree, it was speculated that it was foreshadowed earlier in the season (When he threw the skate and it cut his hand in the locker room) that he died by some sort of cutting.
+Lauren D I thought he shot himself
He Slit his wrist
The look Luke gave to Dylan after reading that Cam died will never not be funny to me.
+CheetahDegrassi That made me start crying tbh
+Anjelica Dun luke was so upset. i felt for him!
he looked like he'd seen a cat get run over
i only watched this episode but apparently he hated hockey, was homesick, and had severe anxiety
I feel bad that Maya had to choose between Cam and her audition, but I'm glad she chose Cam. However, now that she didn't get to do that, she won't have anything productive to do to take her mind off Cam and that leads to her... becoming Manny-ish
@DarkPrincess434 what episode was that from?
at first i also thought something happened to jake because it was in the greenhouse
I didn't know if I could make it trough this
:O I'm so sad
what season is this episode from?
I wonder if cam is going to re-appear spiritually like why did he have to die so quick :(
all i keep saying is OH MY GOD!
lol her face
LMFAOOO peep Dave !
I wonder if Stefan's name tag says "Archie" or "Mr. Simpson"
How did Cam kill himself?
