It's pretty well known he wrote it about is love affair with her. Peter Freestone (Phoebe) says it in his book and in interviews that the song was written about their relationship. It's a play on the title of a film she did. They briefly broke up. He also was struggling at that point with his suspicion that he had HIV so he was trying to push her away. Someone also was intent on breaking them up by planting stories in the press. They later got back together. She would stay with him at Garden Lodge (his home) and they would sleep together but this time without sex because of the disease. She was sitting next to him in 1990 at his birthday party. When they were having sex Freddie's friend and favorite journalist, David Wigg, accidently walked in on them having sex. Freddie asked him if he wanted to join them but David said he'd just go get a cup of tea instead. Many of his friends knew they were together. There are interviews where they talk about it. They bought an apartment together but Freddie found out at that point he was ill so the dream they had of living together there never came true. He went home to London because he knew he was likely, unless their was a treatment discovered, going to die.
