    Hi Ben. Since I’m doing doubles at low intensity hearth rate, my runs are less boring, level of fitness improved quite a lot and my body is less beaten up after quality runs. Greetings from Beijing ✌️

    • @BenIsRunning
      @BenIsRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats the biggets benefit for me also. I can maintain a high mileage but my body recovers quicker and feels less beat up than say trying to run 2 or 3 long runs a week. Breaking it down into smaller chunks certainly helps me :)

    I've run twice-a-days in past, and it has indeed resulted in increased fitness. It's just it takes a lot of willpower to go out in the morning and then ALSO in the evening. Anyways, good video! 👍

    There is some good science that has been done which shows that double runs improve mitochondria function compared to longer single runs and independent of glycogen depletion. I’m not a high mileage runner and I’ve been doing them. It’s difficult but feels so good to complete the second threshold workout. Thanks for this channel.

    Just found your channel Ben and love your content - really inspired to try and up the intensity and distance (after a couple of years of gradually getting back into it after 15 year break) and hit some good times. I’ve been doing double runs for a few months now as part of my commute - easy 9km to work in the morning then flat out 5km on the direct route home, 2-3 times a week. Probably the biggest gains I’ve had as a result. Anyway thanks for the tips and the inspiration!

    I used to love running to and from work for my double runs. I loved getting back home especially after a night shift and not having to get ready to go out before I could shower, eat and get some sleep. Saved petrol as well! I just had to be organised at the start of the week to have clothes in place to change into once I arrived at work and had showered there.

    Hi Ben, I'm down in New Zealand. Am a completely new runner, middle-aged, and bit overweight but fit and can walk a fair distance at a good rate and no problems. Completed my first-ever 5k park run last weekend. Walked fast and jogged where I could. Took me 45.30 🤣🤣 I would like to start to try and run the whole way and would be grateful for any suggestions as to best thing to do.

    Hey man, this is about my 3rd video I've watched on your channel and I've really enjoyed it. I've just started to get back into serious running as I stopped a few years ago while at college/Uni. Love the benefits of the double run days that you shared!
    Wondering, what's your VO2 Max? Mine is about 58-62 according to my Garmin Venu. (Also roughly how long can it take to see an improvement in your VO2 Max, do you know?)
    And you've probably said elsewhere on the channel, but I was wondering what's your HM target? :)

    I used to run twice to split up my runs.
    After discovering the Wim Hof 3 pillars I run more times because my legs say nothing but hell yes.
    I used to reduce mileage from painful stiff calves.
    Now I seek twice the vertical gain sigh zero soreness.
    If you’re serious about your cardiovascular system.
    You’ll do Wim Hof

    I am an old and slow runner. But since I have done some double runs from last year, I have seen the benefits. However, not all my doubles are running, if I feel sore I will just hop onto my indoor bike. But I will do sth twice a day during week days. Another benefit if I may add, double-day allows me to run daily, now my rest day is just when I skip the morning run but then I will run in the evening. Your easy runs are 'so fast' for me, what is your VO2Max. I enjoy your informative and humble character video. Tqvm.

    Can anyone recommend a good running watch that isn't hundreds of pounds? A really useful feature would be a pacing indicator to keep me on target. If it beeps if I drop below pace then all the better.

    Do you think you'd get a similar benefit cross training, rather than another run. I can only run alternate days at the moment due to an achillies niggles but am trying to do more swimming and cycling👍🏻

    i know this is an old vid but if you can do 20 reps of 300 at a certain pace with 30 sec rest that is far slower than your actual 3k pace. You could go faster than those reps in a 3k

    • @BenIsRunning
      @BenIsRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recently ran a 3k race, feel free to check that vlog out. I prefer to do ‘slower’ reps with less recovery as I tend to target longer races which I benefit more from less rest rather than speed if that answers your query :)

      I know this is an old comment but pro runners/ college athletes tend to do sessions in the morning and easy runs at night from what I've seen. Could also depend on when your energy levels are the highest.

    Running twice a day is normally only recommended when doing 200k/week right? U will not fully recover since cortisol levels r nit dropping enough? Also u really run on this on asphalt? So if u older, dont run 150km weeks, beginner, afraid of injury this is really bad advice then. The strain on u body is much higher as growth hormone is dropping, cortisol is high, digestive system is abrupted etc. I understand u level is high, u r younger. But too advice people to build mileage this way seems that u lack alot of knowledge - that is for people dont running 200k weeks or even building up to it.

    • @BenIsRunning
      @BenIsRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For me double running is used instead of longer single runs. I find it puts less stress on my body, specifically the impact related fatique, and allows me to maintain high milage but reduce injury. The video is simply sharing my experience of using double runs in my half marathon train block (peaking at 140km a week)- take from it what you wish, please take the time to read the description of the video

    • @TheVikingquest
      @TheVikingquest 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenIsRunning yes doing these long runs and big mileage i can see it works well. Suppose the video isnt aimed at intermediate runners. Love u other videos! Cheers.

    • @richardwilson5913
      @richardwilson5913 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Double running as described by Ben on this video is not bad advice. Anyone who is thinking of trying it will most likely already be at a certain level of fitness and endurance. It does not matter if running 50 or 100 miles a week so long as you listen to your body and don't push through if struggling. It's just running, one foot in front of the other, don't complicate it. To be an improving runner you only really need to do 2 things. Sometimes run a bit further than you want to and sometimes run a bit faster than you want to.
