I usually open them up and make my own by adding tuna, chicken, or tuna creations in the bags. Then vacuum seal them. By doing this more I can get double the meals, and more variety and flavor.

Picked up a case after seeing your bid. I'm gonna subject them to several freeze and thaws. In addition Expose them to summer heat. The only proven way i found to store anything at my shelters is to open up stuff and dehydrate it, then vacuum seal it.

I started to watch this video…at midnight, and realized I need a snack! So I took some ritz crackers with peanut butter and two dark chocolate snacks, and washed it all down with some hot sweet coffee! A fun watch!

I was in a field unit in the first Gulf War, and we had MRE's for virtually every meal for the entire duration (5 months in my case). There were only 12 different MRE's at the time, and no MRE heaters. I can't say I didn't get tired of them at the time, but I still remember them fondly. The HDR's are similar and pretty darn good for what they are. I have several cases stored away for the "just in case", and consider them a fantastic bargain for food storage.
Definitely a bargain. Store some Tabasco sauce with them.

I enjoyed this one. The air drop edit was fantastic. The banter back and forth was fun. Never heard of these prior to this production. I had heard the vegetarian MREs had candy in them, figured these might also. I'll have to look and see what info I can locate on these and see if I could feasibly add a can or pouch to them for a non vegan option. Might be a good weekly load you two trying the other menus together. Have an awesome weekend brother.

Old c ration to mre 11B here. After Panama in 84 eating the mre sucked in comparison. Did appreciate the air force hot meals in tent city in Saudi during my Iraq tour. I bought these humanitarian mre cases during Covid and glad I did. Since I live local to you and visit the canal sometimes, I may run into you. Keep up the good work.

I have eaten mre's before and some are good and some are not.
We keep a couple days of mountain house meals on hand for emergencies.

Update on weather exposure. So I did the freezing and warming experiment. I froze and thawed 6 times, it was junk after and the same with heat. These are probably good for casual camping or can be stored without diverse temp fluctuations. Since I store food at my shelters that see regular freezing and 100 plus in the summer it's a no go for me. Bummer cuz the price is right...

We had fun with the air drop part. I think my beautiful wife had too much fun. She was tossing the meals up to make them look like they were falling from the sky, but if you noticed, the last one zinged past my head. I think she was trying to do a little damage.

I enjoy the HDR's, my only advice to folks is that you should boil the pouches a little longer than you'd think as the lentils tend to be a bit on the hard side otherwise.
The rice was a little dry too. It made me appreciate the MRE heaters. Overall though, not too shabby.

Ahh, Katrina and Rita. I remember those terrible storms well. Tough times for the state of Louisiana. I did a lot of emergency deliveries to the affected areas. I don’t remember the drops, but the military response was huge. Ate plenty of MREs. Luckily, my home town, Baton Rouge, was far enough inland. We recovered relatively quickly compared to the coast. Those people were quite devastated.
My beautiful wife went down there for about a year I think with the company she was working for cutting trees. It's hard to imagine such a beauty running a chainsaw, but she can chainsaw with the best of them. One of the many reasons I love her.

@FatGuyinaLittleWoods no problem. What an adventure that must have been. I didn't know her back them, but they all just hopped into their trucks and went. She has told me a little about it. She used to ride the Amtrack back up here to Illinois to take a break and then took the train back down there. Now, anytime I suggest that we take Amtrack anywhere for vacation She is adamantly opposed to it. Probably due to bad memories.

It was a massive response from good people across the nation. Thinking on it makes me so proud to be a part of the American tribe. I worked with a Moroccan who said he knew America was great after seeing the American flag on the bags of food aid he received as a child. He is now a proud American citizen. Despite our problems, we are truly a fortunate people
@FatGuyinaLittleWoods that is awesome. That is part of the Humanitarian Daily Ration story. How many people around the world have eaten these and have survived starvation? They remember the situation on the ground, they remember the U.S. Flag on the food packages that sustained them. After my wife and I filmed this we kind of felt bad for taking so lightly how we had this food available to us and we laughed and joked about it. To A LOT of people thus was the difference between life and death

MRE's have a shelf life of ten years. The only thing I've noticed bad about an MRE after ten years is that the heater pack no longer works. In HDR you don't have to worry about it because they are not included.
A commenter here said to heat up the food packs, particularly the rice (the one I tried). Yeah, no heater, but that's OK, where there is a will there is a way.
Yeah, I would say these are a good bargain for sure.

Yeah... $35 for ten packs. 3 meals per pack, that's less than $1.20 per meal.
Excellent bargain
I looked at the calorie count on all of the packaging in mine. The poptarts had the most calories of anything in the package. The entrees I have had were not bad.
I've had some people say the pop tarts are sometimes moldy.
Empty moldy delicious calories.
@OliveDrabAlliance I didn't think there was enough organic material in poptarts for mold to grow on...
In all seriousness though, in the situations where you would actually need these rations, no calories are empty calories. It may not be the most nutritious food in the world, but it does give somebody a lot of energy in a very small, lightweight, waterproof package.
There were some people in Gaza that were killed by the drops of this food. Pallets of this food were crushing people.
I think since then, if and when they air drop them, they drop them loose or smaller than pallet size for safety.

This is the first time I have seen an HDR without molded crackers, and pop tarts. Typically the entree is edible. The rest is trash.

Hopefully they maybe did something different to prevent that in the future.

I love MRE's as a funny little treat on occasion but definitely not for sustainablity
They will block you up if you eat them for too long.
Without coffee or tea what is the point of the sugar? No drinks at all? One can live longer without food then water.

It's definitely edible and way cheaper than MREs.
MREs have more accessories, like T.P. and meal heater, but one of these will definitely keep you going.

She actually did. Her coworker loved it. A lot of them were curious as to what it was and how it tasted.
