  • @nothughmahn
    @nothughmahn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    First, don't compare 8k and 4k, very unfair comparison as 8k is a more experimental feature. Second, Vivo seemed to have hazier photos, and would sometimes just overbrighten the image, make the white shirt have a slight glow. The S22 Ultra had the best background noise cancelation, not sure why you didnt mention that. Would hope to see some better logic with these comparisons like other reviewers, like MrWhoseTheBoss.

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We don't compare 8k to 4k, we make sure that the footage is there so there are no question marks in the viewers mind. 8k is just a bonus if a phone has this feature, and another bonus if the video is stabilized and of good quality.
      Since we take a lot of footage, we try to review them as a whole - and time to time talk about individual photos if there are big and consistent issues or certain traits. You can see what Samsung does to my white shirt at 1:14 - but I prefer not to slam the phone over something like this because it's a one-off thing and this issue won't be replicated in every single photo. So when you mention a couple of things about Vivo like it sometimes making the image brighter, I think it's important to realize you can do that for every single phone in every single comparison. Thanks for your comment!

    Pixel 6 Pro seemed to have the best shots on most of these images. I have the Pixel 6 Pro and I have yet to find a phone that takes better still photography than the P6Pro, not even the iPhone 13 Pro Max. iPhone 13 Pro Max does have better video though, but I feel that will change with the Pixel 7 Pro since Google paid specific attention to upgrading the video processing capabilities on the Tensor2 SOC.

    3:10 Sorry, but that's not true. Google outperforms Vivo's tele camera partly due to the hardware. Both periscope cameras deliver about the same number of sensor pixels per angle, but Vivo's periscope camera has an effective diameter of 3.5mm, whereas Google has 5.4mm. This leads to noticeably less diffraction and diffraction is relevant for Vivo's periscope camera.
    The larger effective diameter and higher focal length of Google's periscope (19mm vs 11.8mm) also lead to more light from objects, this leads to a better signal to noise ratio.
    I have examined Google's "super res" zoom from the Pixel 6 Pro and sadly, it's really just a marketing stunt. I even tested that traditional digital zoom from a conventional camera with the same number of pixels per angle (as the periscope camera in its 12 megapixel binning mode) and same effective diameter can outperform Google's digital zoom.
    Yes, it's possible that Vivo's algorithms are worse than Google's, but this doesn't mean that Google's "super res" zoom actually works. I tested it as I said. It's just a marketing stunt, theory and practice are different things.

    • @muhammadragilsaputra653
      @muhammadragilsaputra653 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you tried super res zoom on ported gcam? try it on realme phone with no tele lens and compare the 10x result from stock camera app and ported gcam, you will see a big difference

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While I do agree with you about the diameter of the camera being a factor, I don't agree with Super Res Zoom being a useless marketing stunt. You could say that the algorithm is worse or better for any camera phone on the market to justify a result, but I find it hard to ignore when they are pretty transparent with the research and development they've put into this feature that they first implemented in the Pixel 3. There are quite a few people that have tested it and had the exact opposite opinion as you, so having tested it doesn't really prove anything to be the ultimate truth in the end. Here's a reference for details, with live examples comparing the Pixel 2 to the Pixel 3 with Super Res Zoom:

    You really gave portrait to Vivo? lmao. Its clear you dont take colour accuracy into consideration for these tests. And it feels like your narrating to a completely different picture that youre showing. The vivo was so hazy, especially in portrait mode. And Samsung video straight up looked better than Google's not to mention when you showed the 8k footage of the boat.

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first two Portrait photos of the Galaxy, as well as the one on 2:00 look off to me because of the lack of focus, to be honest. It's interesting to me how you didn't have an issue with those photos. And also about 'color accuracy', my shirt is white as day, but half the time it looks blue on the Galaxy, and even darker blue on the Pixel - so we do take it into consideration.
      Since we take a lot of footage, we try to review them as a whole - and time to time talk about individual photos if there are big and consistent issues or certain traits. I'm not narrating every single photo as we pass by, but we often show a photo if I'm talking specifically about that image.
      Pause the video at 3:28 and 3:34, and you can better see the loss of detail on the side of Samsung. If we were to take 100 videos, I'm pretty sure Samsung would have the best overall videos - but sometimes, phones perform differently in different conditions. The ultrawide video is also too dark, with the least amount of detail out of the three.
      I hope these explanations helped you understand our thought process!

    The video shooting being in only 1 place and being still didn't impress me to be honest. We need to see samples in different environments and lighting conditions to see how they actually perform most of the time. And movement, of course. Because exposure control is important and I hate when a phone cannot control the exposure well in a video just because it saw a bright spot.

    The night shots , portraits specially at night is what really matters , the night behavior of cameras at night i mean, as all flagships get decent photos in daylight,, thats why i ll give the win to vivo .. the crystal clear night shots with no flares and onspot focusing is unparalleled... I can't think of a situation where i would Zoom for 60x or 20x actually as mostly all of us Zoom to Maximum around 7x to 10x.
    for a flagship phone , the Dynamic range and night shots are rhe keypoints thats where i see Vivo Excels,, even at daytime the photos looks with a wide dynamic range and pleasing to the eye.
    look at your shirt in @1:15 its blown out with the s22 and its blue on google but the vivo managed to be onspot ... also @1:18 the Dynamic range .. @1.45 @2:01 all of these are superiority of optics in vivo which should be mentioned , these things raise the level of competition and push companies to raise their par and progress , so kudos to vivo for that.
    BUT its front facing camera is not on par actually while the Mic noise cancelling is stunning idk how you put it atlast ...

      Thanks for your long and detailed comment! About the mic quality - the problem wasn't the noise cancelling, but the general quality of the sound. It doesn't sound as clean as the other two.

    I thought that the vivo was the only phone currently available with the new Samsung sensor.
    With the comparison of night shots which phone was fastest in taking, and processing, a photo?

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were no noticeable differences, around half a second each. Sometimes they took 2-3 seconds if the software got involved, and around 7 seconds in the photo under the bridge where there was zero light.

    shame on Samsung for this horribe photo quality! the people in the photos look like they are about to die . fck on the sharpness at 100x nobody needs this. but that is the reason why more and more people switch to other companys
