Great video! I loved the diesel douche part. Just to clarify though, at least on my merc 115, you fill to the "oil level" screw, then put the "oil level" screw in, then continue filling until it comes out the topmost vent. According to service manual: "1. Remove any gasket material from “Fill” and “Vent” screws and gear housing. 2. Install new gaskets on “Fill” and “Vent” screws. 3. Insert lubricant tube into “Fill” hole. 4. Fill gear housing with lubricant until excess starts to flow out of one (first) “Vent” screw hole. 5. Replace this lubricant “Vent” screw and gasket only and continue filling until excess starts to flow out of second lubricant “Vent” screw hole. 6. Replace second lubricant “Vent” screw and gasket." I'm not sure why, but that's what it says.
The filter is not backwards, mine is the same and it shows the flow arrow on the filter. The trick to starting the motor is simple. first press the fuel line bulb several times and hold it vertical seems to help, Make sure motor is as level, do not press the key until you start to crank. once you turn the key, press it in and hold it until it starts to fire. once you hear a fire release the key and see if it hits. if not then try to crank again without pressing the key, if it does not work the second time try the same step as above. also you might need to clean out the accelerator pump filter. its up at carbs 2 and 3. I went through mine and replaced and or cleaned everything. if you run the correct fuel (87 only) and use a quickleen / quickcare cocktail then she will run awesome!
I have the same question about the fuelfilter, it feels like I'm putting the filter in wrong direction when it's against the fuel pump (where the fuel comes from) but when you see similar outboards it looks the same(like this one). Fuelline -->fuel pump"in"--> fuel pump"out"--> fuelfilter"direction backwards". Why is this? Sorry for my bad English.
@@mikescanlon2247 due to how they are tuned and setup. Also the big thing that every marine mechanic has told me is fuel line(s) and carburetor gaskets/seals. The higher octane and/or ethanol content although burns better, it will deteriorate all of what I mentioned above much more quickly. Due to the majority of owners only using his/her boat seasonally and having them in storage (sitting) for extended periods, this only expedites the corrosion and deteriorating of the gaskets, seals and lines. Hope that helps.
I love the video. I am trying to find the fuel line you replaced so I can replace mine, too. Where did you order it from and how did you identify it. I have a 2000 125 that looks to be exactly like this one. I have run it since 2001 on my Ranger 617VS. Needs this fuel line and filter replaced, and I hope to do it myself.
I have 2000 model of this motor. Where can i get a manual? I couldnt find my serial number which starts with OT vs OD on Mercury marines website. I messaged Mercury and cant get a response.
J majerus it went well J! Easier than I thought. I since sold the boat. I got the part used for $30. Took me maybe an hour to pull the old one and put the new one on. ProbAbly saved $300.
I do not believe it is backwards... this is how mine is, on the same exact motor. I just took it out, as I'm replacing it... and this is how mine was from the factory. If it is backwards, than I wonder if this is why I have so much trouble starting it. Mark, if you see this... did you 'flip' the filter around 180 degrees as Manuel Jas suggested??? Just curious if this changed anything with the performance. Please let me know. Thanks! Great video, thanks for sharing it!! :)

striker1211 hi there, in your service manual for the 115 merc, does it indicate the factory setting for the air screws on the carbs?
Enjoyed your vid. Just bought a Trophy with the Mercury 125 2-stroke saltwater and know absolutely nothing about it. Thanks.
Great boat! good motor too! 2+2
What year how you liking

My cowling doesn't lockdown any suggestions would be great

You suggest 87 not 91? Why

What is the plug size and thread pattern for the lower unit gear oil?

What prop are you running and what kind of boat? I have the same motor but can’t find the “right” prop for my 22ft deck boat.
I just bought one. 2002 model. What is your compression? The engine I bought had 9/9.1 on all four cylinders.
I've got a quick question for you that you may be able to answer. What is the brass fitting for above your number one spark plug? Thanks
That is where a water pressure gage hose can hook to if you have that gage.
what pitch ia your prop?

Good video!! Nice guy and helpful!!!
Do you happen to have a part number for the impeller kit? I'm having some difficulty locating the proper water pump kit.
Thank You
Confirm with your engine serial number ALWAYS.
You need to put some marine grease on the studs before you put on the nuts that way next time you need to take it apart it's not seized up again...
How fast can that motor go? I got same motor, but seem like I’d drop some speed. Thanks!
Had it on a Ranger VS17 (heavy)…GPS top speed at 45mph.
@@WanderingWojo I’m by myself on my gps showed 41.8 idk what’s wrong. Any advice?
i don’t know a lot about prop pitch in fact i couldn’t tell you what mine was but that may be the way to squeeze a few more mph out.👍
can you buy them from Walmart to?
What size was the fuel line? Please
3/8 id
Thank you, I'll get that 1/2 id off, way to tight in there.
According to the diagrams there is a second filter somewhere. Did you replace that?
It's a small one behind the oil reservoir if it's the same as the 2000 model and it looks like it is.
@@surpriselandletitgooo9505 do you have the oil leak problem? I had my entire oil system re done. I mean everything. Still leaks unfortunately…
What'did you gap the plugs at. People tell different gaps?
Always look at the decal on the side of the motor . that is the factory setting.
Nice descriptive video siuwojo.
what size prop are you running? i have 21p 12 3/4 seems a little off
I think that’s the same prop that’s on my trophy 1802
What is the oil mix ratio for this specific engine?
I bought my boat used and the oil injector had gone out previously so they took it off and simply pre mix gas with a 50-1 ratio.
the oil injection pump is set at 50;1 running , leaner at idle speed.
i have this same motor and its bullet proof but for trolling and fishing i dont recommend it big pig on fuel
How did the carb plate replacement go?
J majerus it went well J! Easier than I thought. I since sold the boat. I got the part used for $30. Took me maybe an hour to pull the old one and put the new one on. ProbAbly saved $300.

your fuel filter is backwards.
Seriously? I put it back the way I took it out...could that be a reason I have trouble getting it started sometimes?
