I was on my 8th grade when I first heard this song from my classmate's MP3 player, that was 2007. Now I'm turning 30 and still listening to Silverstein. Damn I'm old
Silverstein's first album and A Static Lullaby's first album was my guilty pleasures back in the day. Now, just my personal pleasures everytime i play them CDs. That nostalgic rush, i'm an addict 😅
I can't say I envy your position, but in a curious way, I do. I envy your feelings whilst listening to this song, it reminds me of when my first-love gave up on me, suddenly, and without any valid explanation. Then just moved on another one. And I would listen to this... In a way, it was very comforting. I never understood that girl, she said liked me, she was also showing it. Now I just hear notes. Good luck on your recovery, time heals everything, you already know that.
"Giving Up" I used to make the light shine for you, The sun has left my sky. Velvet walls surround my sorrows, I've sacrificed my pride. Giving up on me, You're giving up on me Giving up on me, You're giving up on me. I've laid myself to sleep tonight I know you've played out everything in your mind. And now you throw it all away, A shattered memory that you would stay. Through thick and thin with me, You're giving up on... Giving up on me, You're giving up on me Giving up on me, You're giving up on me. I've laid myself to sleep tonight I know you've played out everything in your mind, your mind And now you throw it all away A shattered memory that you would stay Through thick and thin with me. And when you feel the pain, I'm wishing I could stay. How can I say I love you back, You never made me happy. You've laid yourself to sleep! I never said this wouldn't hurt. You gave up everything! I never said I'd give it back. I know! (I know!) You'll never change! I won't be good enough for you. I know! (I know!) You'll make it through, I'll never be around to see. And now you throw it all away A shattered memory that you would stay Through thick and thin with me.
@bemy guest Evergreen are Post-Hardcore legends. But Silverstein is consistent in quality going on two decades. Imo Shane's word structure and vocals beat out Aaron's.

this shit holds up so well. I remember buying this CD. I was bigger into Thursday and TBS (saw them both live) at the time and I mistakenly thought Silverstein was just trying to capitalize on emo's breakout into mainstream culture in the early 2000s. But shit , this holds up way better 20 years later and so many bands tried to copy what Silverstein really brought into the exploding emo/screamo/nu-metalcore/'post-hardcore' scene of that era. This song is now an emo classic. And this whole album has no skips. really brings me back to my early 20s in college.
