    Something to know about Bryston products. I sent my 1980's Bryston amp to the factory for repair after a fault in the power switch blew a fuse. I contacted them for service, they sent me a box to return the amp, went through and made repairs, replaced some weak parts and bench tested it back to factory spec all for a little over $300.00 Canadian. If you're used to throwing away gear when it fails this was entirely unexpected. Literally refreshing service. Bryston backs it's products. My son has his eye on that amp. It took almost 40 years to need service and it's now working like new. There's a pretty good chance it will outlive me and be passed on to him. Yeah. They are that good. One other note, A year later I had a problem in my system and I suspected that old amp. So I sent it back for review. Amp came back tested 100%. No service charge. The problem was another piece of new gear that went in the trash. Can your amp company do that?

      NAD Electronics charged me less than $80 Canadian to service my unit. NAD amplifiers offer a much better value for your dollar. Bryston engineers make overkill amplifiers. You don't need that.

      @@raffiequler7510 ...you need overkill for something to last as they do...pops repaired electronics for about 40 years and only saw two Bryston amps...and both repairs weren't a fault of the amp...more to do with incorrect hookups damaging connectors...never hurt the insides...only amp I'd buy...NAD's (insert funny bit here) are nice, but at the end of the day I only want to spend the big dollars once, and with Bryson gear that's all you will do...the warranty speaks for itself...

    This is an amazing amp. I upgraded to a 4B3 from a Bryston 4B that I bought in 1987 that was still going strong. The old 4B was no slouch and still sounded great. The new 4B3 is more refined, and extremely well made. I use it to power a pair of massive Westlake Audio BBSM-12 speakers that are very efficient. The 4B3 is capable of putting out way more power than I need, so it's running very conservatively. A stellar amplifier.

    Very impressive toroidal transformer and capacitors in each of the pre-amp and power-amp sections in a well machined chassis distinguishes Bryston from a lot of other amplifier companies. Hence the upward price and justly so when you hear and see what it can do.

    always seen these for sale on the gon or mart, i've never looked at the back panel of one of these until this video. lots of boards under the hood. look inside an adcom 5802, it's well made and just as powerful. crank up the bias a little and enjoy 25 watts of class-A with the 450 watts per channel headroom.

    I bought one few weeks ago, and it just failed, it trips the breaker when trying to start - I am quite disappointed. I’ll take it this Monday to the local authorised repairer, so I’ll see how the great Bryston customer service operates here in Australia. Also, maybe I’ll find out how the ‘20 years warranty’ works in Australia , as there is no mention of it on the receipt from the shop I bought it from.

      @@jitrapornpha5104 Yes, after more than four weeks, it is still with the authorised repairer. I talked also to Busisoft, they say that parts may take another four weeks to arrive from Canada. I had no idea that this is even possible for repairs under warranty , to need more than two months turn around ! I must say, I am incredibly disappointed - I am watching this Audio Advisor video about how great Bryston is, and I don’t know if I should lough or cry !

    NAD amps are good enough for me and you. I find 50 Watts per channel from NAD is just fine for loudest parties. Bryston guys are crazy with their overkill amplifiers.

      Not when a speaker load dips to 4 or 2 ohms during transients.

      @@benevolentautore4463 My 50-Watt NAD C340 provides 170 Watts per channel dynamically into 2 Ohms. No problems for those transients. NAD amplifiers offer true value for your money. Bryston's customers are doctors and lawyers so you can imagine not many people buy them.

    • @benevolentautore4463
      @benevolentautore4463 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@raffiequler7510 Depending on volume level. You could easily clip a channel pushing high volumes if the amp is driving a difficult speaker. This does damage speakers. NAD might be good stuff, I've never owned it, but there is a scientific argument to be made for having more than enough watts rather than too few for better dynamics and speaker protection. There is obviously a limit though. Diminishing returns and all....

      @sirDanBaker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Definitely not true, and I’m neither a doctor nor a lawyer ;-). I have been a long time NAD owner, I owned a NAD M22 until recently.
      now I have a 4B Cubed and it is in another league quality wise. The M22 was approximately equally powerful (can’t be bothered to check specs just now) It’s not about how much power an amp can put out but how much quality is in those watts, and Bryston watts are a LOT better than the Nad ones

  • @aegisofhonor
    @aegisofhonor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish Bryston would put a little more thought into ascetics for their amplifiers. They look so boring and shall I say "ugly". That drab black or grey as well as the insistence on external heat sinks down the full length of the amplifier does it no favors. They are a good reliable amplifiers that can last for literally decades; they are a perfect example of function over form. But I'd never want to buy one, especially at the high price point they sell them at simply because they just don't look good enough for me to want to look at every day.

    • @angusandleigh
      @angusandleigh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ...I feel that they put more R&D into what makes them an outstanding amp...far as I'm concerned if they only had $100 to spend and they could either put it in the 'sex appeal' budget, or the quality budget I'm glad that they went with the latter...besides, I wouldn't buy one to look at it, I bought it to listen to it...most high end gear is less flashy than what you buy at Best Buy etc. anyway...Bryston is all substance, and no 'filler'...

    • @LeeBlaske
      @LeeBlaske ปีที่แล้ว

      Beauty must be in the eye of the beholder. I think they look great. Sophisticated, classy, and if you ever picked one up, you'd know they're solid. The heat sinks are there for a purpose, and they're well made. The "grey" one you mention is silver in color. What power amp do you consider to be not boring?

      Have you listened to this amp against the Emotiva? Not even in the same league! If you are a slave specs on a sheet, you will understand the what makes up the price difference. I too was a sceptic when I first started out in hifi, then I was asked to sit in a room with a Mark Levinson front end driving B&W 800 series speakers, same specs as your beloved Emotiva? He put Pink Floyd’s the wall cd on....let’s just say it was life changing. The guy just looked at me and stated, it’s not amps, its THD that makes the amp. Most amps driven past 5 watts can’t handle cleaning up distortion to make is sound like the first 5 watts.
