Thank you so much for this video. My truck has been stuck in 4wd hi for the last week, and my local auto repair shop wanted 950 dollars for the new actuator plus labor. I watched this video and saw how easy and quick it was to replace, and laughed in their faces. Thank you for saving me almost a thousand bucks!

Un bolt the actuator, hook the wire back up, have a friend turn the 4x4 shifter nob on the dash while you hold the actuator in your hand and see if the motor moves the shifting fork on the actuator all the way and not sluggish
This is different compared to my 2015 ram 1500 eco diesel 4wd laramie. The actuator is going the opposite direction and the bolts are near impossible to get to.
What's weird is with my ram the actuator moved in and out but 4x4 wasn't working so I manually put it in 4x4 position and vola 4x4 put it on jack stands with actuator back on and it was stuck in 4x4 put my spare actuator from my spare diff and it's working wondering if maybe not enough power in old actuator to move the slider under load
+rpsbobby You might be able to get one from the dealer. You may also be able to find one at your local salvage yard or EBay. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
i have a 2013 1500 sport and my 4x4 light just blinks at me for about 30 seconds when i push it and the 4x4 wont engage think this might be my problem?
+silverfox We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
+FTWworlddomination There is a small gasket on the inside of the actuator that seals the fluid. You might be able to remove the actuator, clean the area then RTV it back in place to stop the leak. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
I got say I'm not impressed with my 2015 Ram. I got a service 4wd when it was -60°f out. Was not able to use 4wd the rest of the winter. I'd prefer to have locking hubs and a manual lever to shift the transfer case. All this electronic stuff fails to a point there should be a recall .
Very interesting, the 1st Gen RAM's used a vacuum actuator that would fail when the rubber diagram would age and crack. Interesting that RAM went with a lil'electric motor.
Would a malfunction with this cause the 4x4 to want to engage on its own? It has happen to me a few times. Also, I am getting the "service 4WD" signal light on my dash. I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi. Thank you for your help.
I have a 2008 dodge ram bighorn edition 5.7 hemi. My 4 wheel drive kicks in all on its own going down the highway. We have replaced the ecm unit, servo motor and the knob you turn 4 wheel drive on. I can start my truck in driveway and it will be on or flashing 4W. We are Nowata a loss as what to do or what's going on. Help!!??
Hey i hope you guys see this but iam having an issue. I have a 2014 ram 1500 and i was trying to install my actuator but the forks dont align with the collar any ideas?
+darkscar drakon Thanks for watching! The new part should install just like in the video as long as you have the correct part. You may need to set the new fork to the position of the old one. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts the part is the same as the old one but that coupling refuses to move into place with the forks of the actuator. Any idea as to why? Bad bearing?

Would this part be responsible for my 4WD light turning on but my truck not locking it's front wheels?
Mine is doing the same thing.
Same and the SVC light on too
mine too
How did you determine that the old Front Axle Lock Actuator was working properly?
Un bolt the actuator, hook the wire back up, have a friend turn the 4x4 shifter nob on the dash while you hold the actuator in your hand and see if the motor moves the shifting fork on the actuator all the way and not sluggish
Works perfectly fine, how to test it?
Do you place the actuator fork onto the collar ?? I see no mention bout that??
This is different compared to my 2015 ram 1500 eco diesel 4wd laramie. The actuator is going the opposite direction and the bolts are near impossible to get to.
how did you diagnose the actuator is not working properly
Following. I like to know
Fixed my problem thank you!
What did you do ? my truck has service 4wd and front diff is making a noise when you put turn the key over.
Whats the difference between all the ones besides the prices? The ones for sale all look the same. Do i need the vin to get the correct one?
+Right Winger The VIN should help find the correct part you need for your specific vehicle.

75w90 for the front differential. 75w140 goes in the back differential
So says Dodge/Chrysler

After replacing the actuator on my 09 Dodge Ram 1500 slt the service 4WD light came on and won’t go into 4WD. Any ideas?
Following, I have the same issue.
Ece que cambiaste le que da a una Ram 2001 3500 año 99 para quitarle el original que yrai
How do you find the wire harness for the actuator. I can't find a part number anywhere
+rpsbobby You might be able to get one from the dealer. You may also be able to find one at your local salvage yard or EBay. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
How do you know it's bad and needs replacing?
is there one in the rear axle or just the front ?

There is fluid coming from my actuator but 4wd engages just fine. Worth replacing or just keep checking and adding fluid?
+FTWworlddomination There is a small gasket on the inside of the actuator that seals the fluid. You might be able to remove the actuator, clean the area then RTV it back in place to stop the leak. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts thank you I really didn't want to buy the whole part for hundreds when all I could do was fix the gasket
Looks like my problem..... maybe. 2016 24K miles. Sometimes light flashes and doesn't engage. Shut engine down, restart and works as advertised.

the old one was also better plus the shift on the floor now we have this ass crap button that give nothing but troubles.

How do I diagnose a bad actuator
My 4x4 turns on but there is a grinding noise in the front when i spin the tires, would this be the issue?
+adam freake We are unable to diagnose online as this could be many things. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Im having the same issue did you ever find out what it was

@@darkscardrakon1278 you need to put the truck in neutral first it wont mesh like that.
