- A lot of singer/songwriter Gabe Lee’s background in music is rooted in gospel, bluegrass and classical music. He grew up in Nashville to “music-loving,” Taiwanese parents. “If you have different stories to tell, I think it gives more integrity to the genre, and I think it gives more foundation to future songwriters and storytellers,” Gabe says. I'm a big fan of Gabe Lee and his music. He is a master of words and his songwriting is deep with meaning that the world needs to hear.
I've been waiting a long time to see a star like this, and finally, I have! We definitely need more artists like Gabe Lee in this genre.

this ain't country
you might be right, the classic country we grew up on glimmers in the rearview, and modern bubblegum country on the radio is a moneymaker, but nowhere near as powerful as the good ol stuff. I wouldn’t limit my singing, playing or songwriting style to the country genre, anymore than John Prine, Dylan, or Springsteen, who all manage to move fluidly between sounds depending on the type of story they want to tell. If there’s a label for what this Nashville kid does, it’s simply storytelling.

Yes it freakin' is!! Gabe Lee is as genuine of country artist as they come. He's also as genuine of a folk and Americana artist as they come. It isn't healthy for us to really gate keep what is an isn't country that much, but even if we do, his Americana and folk stuff is certainly more "country" than what gets shelled out on both radio and the Billboard Hot 100.
