If they made the best possible chipset right now, it would be very difficult to make an improved version for next year. They would need at least two years, rather than a year.

From what I have seen this is the first time I'm actually impressed by smartphone video. Granted some editing was done the actual video itself wasn't grainy in any way and looked sharp!

I am really tempted to come back to Sony. I am currently using a s21 ultra. Would you recommend the Sony xperia 1 IV over the s22 ultra? The s22 ultra is cheaper in price but I do love the idea of having a headphone jack again and micro SD
I used to be a samsung fan until the bloatware got horrendous. I'm using a Xperia XZ 1 and its my 5th year using it now. It starts to lag now but considering it lasted 5 years, it's soooo good. Planning on going back to Sony. The way it holds, the simplicity of the design, the earphone jack, I love it all.

Sony should have sent you a Xperia 1 IV as you are fond of Sony phones unlike many of the other TH-camrs that are not but had a pre-release version. I will look forward to your detailed review once you get your hands on one.

Very minor upgrades compared to my Xperia 1 III. And now without a charger, with even hotter chipset without proper solution to cool it down and even higher price tag. Sorry Sony, I'll pass this time.
Yeah my 1II cooks and is pretty much useless for video and photo as it overheats so quickly. When they showed the fan for gamers it makes me question how hot it gets for video and photography. With a brighter screen there is often more heat too. Will wait and see as I love my 1II aside from the SD and overheating issues.

Sounds good but,with an eye watering £1578 price tag on Amazon albeit with the mx4000 headphones, it wants to be. I for one won't be buying it though. Sony looks like it's only making the high end phones now for the absolute rich die hard fans, I'll stick with my 1ii and run it into the ground perhaps in five years time the 1V might be at a £700 realistic price?

For me it's the overheating issues that worry me. Will it be a cool phone under pressure. This is troubling as they are building a fan to help gamers keep the device cool.
They said that Xperia 1 III will have overheating problems, but I've never encountered a single one. I'm using it for a year now. I was using an Xperia 1 before. And before that an Xperia XZ premium, Xperia z3, Xperia Ion, Xperia X10 Mini Pro :D I always liked Sony's design 👌 Software and exterior too 👌
For me it's a big loss that the GA-button is gone. It helped a lot for someone using a language like Swedish to at least be able to use GA easier. I mean Ok Google never worked, so it could become kinda dangerous if your were driving a car. Instead of unlocking the phone, searching the phone number and so on your could use the button and then take with the phone.
There's rumours of a new Sony phone... if it was me, I'd wait and see what happens when that's released. Unless...you're getting an amazing deal on the IV

@mormsophen3238 I actually didn't have much of a problem with overheating when I used it. I think it's only really a problem if shooting 4K for longer periods. Generally, there's always quite a jump in sensor tech and image processing every year. So yes, you'll definitely notice a big difference.

I am very tempted by this. My only concern is the relatively short period of software and security updates that Sony offer, which I believe are still only two years software and possibly three years security. If I am going to drop this amount of money on a new phone then I would hope to keep it more than a couple of years. Both Samsung and Google Pixel offer a better longevity when it comes to their phones now. And of course Apple is king when it comes to updates.
@@WhatGear I agree - my original Xperia 1 is still performing very well. Battery life is still good enough after three years too. However, I am a bit concerned as there hasn't been a security patch for a few months and I'm sure there won't be another one.
@@carlogee Same here with my Xperia 5 (basically a smaller Xperia 1), there aren't many custom ROM's avaliable for it either, I am considering downgrading to the Sony Xperia XZ3 and installing LineageOS 19.1 so I have the latest security patch and Android 12.1, the phone wont be that much slower either because its got the same amount of RAM and a similar CPU...

Sony came up with good enough selfie camera only at third attempt so I expect to see face unlock and in-screen fingerprint sensor on Xperia 1 VI in best case scenario. :)

This reply may be a little late but software updates have improved overheating a little when it comes to recording 4K. It’s not perfect but it has made a difference it seems. Snapdragon 8 gen 1 just runs very hot overall

My ps4 died on me on the 4th month of use… my xm4 the right side battery lasted 1/4 of the left one… no fix for that and Sony didn’t do anything about it! Do not buy Sony sht!!!!🤬

double click on the power button will do the same thing.

So silly that they can't make a 5.8 inch variants.. I have been waiting for more than 5 years ..I have used all Sony phones until Z3 compact.. after that just waiting every year for a truly handy phone.. they release fantastic phone every year.. but al freaking variants are more than 6 inch.. what the hell ... Why cant they just have one variant for people who wants Sony phones but a 5.8 inch display .. what is the problem
not in a 21:9 ratio, screen would be too narrow to type .And anyway the market has shifted away from compact phones...even Apple seem to struggle with that.

This reply may be a little late but software updates have improved overheating a little when it comes to recording 4K. It’s not perfect but it has made a difference it seems. Snapdragon 8 gen 1 just runs very hot overall

I really hate Sony products!!! My Xperia 1 mark 2 battery sucked, it overheats like crazy, camera shut down cos of phone temperature…. My ps4 died on me on the 4th month of use… my xm4 the right side battery lasted 1/4 of the left one… no fix for that and Sony didn’t do anything about it! Do not buy Sony sht!!!!🤬
