  • Today, we're looking at why some states in the US are struggling financially. The US Census Bureau says in 2022, around 38 million Americans were living in poverty, which is about 11.5% of the population. This rate hasn't changed much from the year before, but it's higher than before the pandemic. Why are these states struggling? Prices for things are going up, making it hard for families to make ends meet. Also, some areas with more Black people tend to have more poverty, showing that there are still big differences in how well-off people are. But it's not all bad news! States like Minnesota, Washington, and Maryland are doing better. They have companies like Target, Amazon, and Marriott that are helping the local economies and communities.
So, today on Discover The Globe, we're going to be taking a look at 10 Poorest States in the United States 2024 (Why They're Poor).

I can see Missouri, but how did Indiana get on this list? I knew things are bad in the Midwest, but I didn't know how bad. Wow.....

I live in a poor rural area. If you are willing to get an education or learn a trade don’t be surprised when your life sucks. So many young people in our area drop out of school to go to work in a low skilled job because they live in the moment

Another video with the wrong city. A picture of Minneapolis was used for Mississippi towards the end. This has happened more than once from his videos. I live in Minneapolis, so i notice this right away.

Your research is not totally accurate, especially as related to Alabama. The state has a budget surplus, is exceptionally well run, has low taxes (low real estate taxes in particular), a low cost of living, and exceptional real estate values. Many retirees are fleeing Florida and moving to Alabama.
