    Such a shame that not many lay people know about the LOTH...i had to go to seminary to learn about it. It has revolutionized my entire life. I try to pray all the hours to stay sane. Thank you Holy Mother Church.

    I went to Daylesford Abby for Easter weekend and did this with the monks and priests. It was a wonderful experience and would definitely do it again.

    Thank you, Father. This is very helpful, even though I am German, living in Germany and using my German language breviaries. Nevertheless, structure, sequence and palms and prayers in the liturgy of the hours are all the same, just in a different language. Greetings from Heidelberg, Germany.

    The UK version of this book is called Daily Prayer published by Collins. I also since I’m from The UK I also have the Universalis app too. Just out of interest where is Christian Prayer approved for use? The Daily Prayer book I referred to is approved for use in the following countries.... Australia, England, Wales, Ireland, New Zealand and Scotland. I’d be very interested to know where the version you use (Christian Prayer) is approved for use because it’s still in English.

    Hi Father...
    I've been praying with consistent endeavor, Lauds, Vepsers, and Compline as found in the Divine Office. I'd like to incorporate the Little Office of the BVM also but I'm learning that I'm running short of time. Do you have advice regarding how to incorporate the Little Office?

      I will give you a complete different suggestion. Please read: "How to Converse with God" St. Alphonsus Liguori. It is published by Tan.

      @@FrRobertCarr St Alphonsus encourages everyone never to give up praying the Rosary. I'm sure you probably already know that.

    I have the shorter version of Christian Prayer. Is this okay?

    • @FrRobertCarr
      @FrRobertCarr  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Jennifer, whatever it is best for you that is often used in many Catholic environments as well.

  • @jupiterinaries6150

    to pray them all at once defeats the purpose of sanctifying those specific hours.

    • @FrRobertCarr
      @FrRobertCarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right, but believe it or not, none other than Archbishop Fulton Sheen suggested it as part of his call for all priests to spend at least one hour daily before the Blessed Sacrament. A practice I have maintained because of him since the seminary.

      Fr. Robert Carr, can one be led into lectio divina while praying the Liturgy of the Hours or should one try to avoid this during such prayers?

    • @FrRobertCarr
      @FrRobertCarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course, yes, actually be open to it.

    Father can the evening prayer 1 also be considered an early matins prayer? in other words are matins and evening prayer 1 the same thig?

    • @FrRobertCarr
      @FrRobertCarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, actually no. Matins is morning prayer also known as Lauds and is to be celebrated usually around dawn, but can be celebrated anytime after midnight. Evening prayer is also known as vespers and is celebrated around dusk. Evening prayer one is celebrated on the vigil of a solemnity or feast. (All Sunday Masses, since they celebrate the resurrection have the status of Solemnity, and only for a higher solemnity can they be replaced as in this years' Christmas and the Solemnity of Mary.) So evening prayer 1 is actually something different than Morning prayer also known as Matins or Lauds. Thanks for your question.

      Thank you Father for your answer! I've also noticed in Christian Prayer that there are assorted Memorials. I can't seem to find a common for Memorials in the book so I'm led to think that there are no prayers common to Memorials?

    • @FrRobertCarr
      @FrRobertCarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure Felix, The commons are related to the memorial, so for a martyr it would be the common of martyrs. for an apostle, the common of apostles, etc.
