I started praying morning prayer on my phone. I was really having a hard time with prayer in general, and this was a great help. During confession, a priest recommended adding evening prayer, and I have done that (most days).
I live alone, and have very few Catholic friends. I like the phone version (Divine Office) because I pray out loud, feeling connected to the whole church as I pray.

I pray out loud too. Rather than running through it in my head, reading out loud allows me to think about it and put emotion into it.

You don't speak of the middle of the night office, which I can't find to join. It doesn't have to necessary be prayed in the middle of the night, and it's so inspirational.

Thank you for sharing. It has helped me understand better many things about prayer thank you. 85 year-old cradle Catholic. By grace love the Scriptures, deeply converted and believing in our holy catholic church in all his teachings that are in in line with the Catholic teaching that have been taught for 2000 years. Thank you this is the church of Jesus Christ and his words. He died to leave his word for us, therefore all who contradict it, or not totally following Jesus. He said, if you love me, you will keep my words, not contradicting and not try to change them. We must bend our knee and rebellious way of thinking and rebellious spirit ,our stiff neck neck to His Word!!!

Before I retired, I would listen to Relevant Radio and EWTN on the radio while I was on the way to work in the early morning and they would have the liturgy of the hours. I prayed along. I *LOVED* it. It's so beautiful and such an honor to God :)

I am a fairly new lay Oblate of St. Benedict. By chance (or design) I found my self the leader of a local deanery. I love the Liturgy of the Hours and actually look forward to praying it. It didn’t take long for me to recognize the link between the Mass and the the LOTH. I use the ‘Divine Office’ app. I often pause the audio to add my own spontaneous prayers as the Spirit moves me. I have a prayer partner at St. Vincent’s archabbey. He is an ordained OSB priest and monk. I always tell Jesus that I am praying with and for Fr. Michael and I am convinced that his prayers for me are truly beneficial. We also get support from the Oblate director there. I know it is not necessary to be a member of a third order to benefit from praying the LOTH. The priests and brothers of St. Vincent’s are my “community” with whom I pray daily. This was a great podcast and I shared it with my fellow St. Placid Deanery Oblates. We have also used and discussed Fr. Gallagher’s book. God bless you. I am now subscribed 👍🏻

Just started praying LOTH this week. Mostly just morning prayers. Will add others slowly. Beautiful!
Love the “Divine Office” app with audio! Easy way to join in the prayers of the Church!

I bought my LOTH 6 years ago and I still haven't made headway with praying from the books because I find them so confusing! I was finally given a book on how to read the LOTH and I look forward to adopting this sacred routine at some point in my life. Plus the books are just collecting dust! 😇

Perhaps the “Divine Office” app would help. My wife and I just started learning about the LOTH this week and this app is awesome. You can play an audio of all the prayers so you can be led in how to pray them. And it’s free!

It’s 2024 and I am glad to come across your channel. I didn’t notice it until I watched this video that 2 of my favourite set of books would almost sound the same. LOTH and LOTR… either way, I hope that in continuing my journey to a deeper understanding and spiritual life may the liturgy always guide us to a better Christian faith and life towards others most of all.

I prefer still to pray Vigils/ Matins. I am lucky as I wake up for some time around 2:00 / 3:00 am.
I also prefer to pray the traditional Benedictine Opus Day. I cherish giving top priority to the Psalms.
    Love Compline!

I am so happy that I can also pray the liturgy of the hours because that exercise gives me a greater connection with the Trinity. This gives me a greater conscience connection with God. I think this helps the laypeople so much.

Excellent discussion. I started praying Night Prayer on the Hallow App about 6 months ago and fell in love with it. My birthday is coming up soon and my wonderful son (whose name is Brandon) asked me what I wanted. I said a set of LOTH books. He ordered them and they arrived yesterday. They're beautiful books and I'm really enjoying learning how to use them. Thank you for this video. I learned so much from watching it. May God bless you both! :)

Unfortunately, i don't remember hearing and knowing about the Liturgy of the hours as a Catholic. It is just today when I'm already young adult that I'm starting to know a bit more. My problem is how and where am i going to learn it, and whom i am going to pray it with. Haven't seen it in the church except praying the Rosary.

Convinced Catholic you tube I found very helpful.
I am only 2 weeks in but I have found there is a learning curve at it gets pretty easy once you get around the curve.
Also . If you get a little confused just flip back to the ORDINARY section and that should get you back on track.

I have IBreviary and use it regularly. You mentioned that some LOTH apps are not the same as what the Church uses. My IBreviary app can be buggy so I sometimes use the Divine Office app. Would you say that this has an authentic LOTH?

    • @juanperez2006
      @juanperez2006 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes, both of them (iBreviary and Divine Office apps) are pretty good.
Divine Office bases everything on the U.S. liturgical calendar and uses the exact translation that the official books have, so if you are praying with a group using the books, you can join along with everyone else.
I highly recommend the Divine Office app and website (www .divineoffice. org), as they have high quality audio that you can use to pray with.

i have the book Christian Prayer and try to prayer the breviary bt find it a lil too difficult and tedious. Also I heard that the LOTH does NOT contain the full Psalter. some of the psalms or parts of them have been removed. So even you buy the 4 volume set and pray every hour, you still would NOT be praying the actual Psalter in its entirety. That troubles me. I pray instead the 1962 little office by barnious press. I find the translations much more beautiful and the structure is much mre simple and easy to navigate

Obviously it depends on their ages. We have littles (5 and under) so I’m wondering if we would just pray it in front of them while they play quietly or look at books?

I try to start my day with simple prayers like the Morning Offering and study and reflection on the Scriptures. Can you do the latter-- reflecting on the Scriptures -- with the Office?🙏💖

Overcoming objection to scripted prayer: I think of prayers like the Psalms or the Roman Canon or Agnus Dei as POWERFUL, ANCIENT prayers. My own words in prayer are cool, but I conceptualize these words echoing from Jesus, and the Bible, and King David, and the Saints, and the Church throughout history, and the Church around the world presently. Plus to my knowledge, anyone can insert their own prayers at the end of Intercessions.

Good luck with telling people parishioners aren't welcome on Sunday unless they pray the LOH. Most Catholics don't go to church anyway. I started praying using the Word of Fire monthly books, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. Most Catholics I know haven't heard of it.
