    Everybody follows the code if you get permits. What I don’t think some people know is that code is the basic need to keep things safe and not have your house fall down. One can always improve on the building code. Making walls thick enough to handle the plumbing so that you don’t cut two thirds of your studs out and eliminating the need for nail plates. My bathrooms have an 8” thick wall for all the plumbing for example.
    Planning the electrical so that receptacles don’t power lighting. Running heavy enough wire so that turning on a toaster and coffee machine doesn’t make the lights dim. Separate the circuits so each room has its own supply. Don’t follow the minimum in the building code. Go better. 16” centers on rafters and trusses with 5/8” minimum plywood sheeting. NOT OSB. House will hold up much better. 😊

    I have built three house's by myself. Had to come up with alot of things to help me lift heavy beams. People can talk alot but have they tried to build a house by there self. Keep up the good work. Your doing great. Keep working smarter not harder.

      Appreciate your comment and expertise! Sometimes it's not even about the weight, but about the physics of where the weight is going to go once it gets over your head.

    It’s always good to look forward to what makes things better for the finishing stage. Making sure you have nailers for drywall or whatever you cover your framing with is one of those. Double bottom plates and window sills make it easy for that and for trim. Framing below the window gets missed frequently. I’m talking about cripples under both ends of the sill plates is missed all the time. Hanging cabinets and having to hit studs can be a pain. Put in blocking or use plywood where the cabinets go and then drywall. I did this and it made it simple hanging cabinets. 😊

    Hey bud those eggs between the logs get you one of those Reacher things that you can squeeze and it has a role on Claw on it so that way if you stick it down in there if there's a snake in there you won't get hit by a snake just so you can keep yourself safe

    Talk about “overkill” on the rigging. I get it though. Can be used for much more than just lifting walls. I always used wall jacks. Less money than all the rigging and much simpler to use. 😊 I built a lot of houses, shops, and barns and the jacks worked on all of them. Including building my own house. They are made to walk up a 2x4.

    • @DIYorDIE_Off-Grid

      I didn't know wall Jack's was a thing until you guys educated me, but by that point I'd already figured out how to use the rigging I had on hand 😄

      Hi Peter, thanks for leaving a comment to let us know how you feel about this video. Don't worry, we will be back soon with more building that you might find more interesting.
      Most people we know didn't grow up learning about pulleys, so this video purpose was to explain the basics and show how we set up the system. It is targeted towards those who have never used a simple pulley system and might want to try this for their own projects.
      We are glad that we have intelligent and experienced viewers, such as yourself, who can add value to our videos with their knowledge in the comments.
      God bless you 🙏

    In reality you could of pulled the wall up yourself as it was a 2 to 1 advantage pulley system. What did you do in the Navy on the boat?

    • @DIYorDIE_Off-Grid

      Well that would depend on the weight of the wall, wouldn't it?

    • @Dave-ge1uu

      @@DIYorDIE_Off-Grid Would you agree you and your wife could lift it in place so you could pull it up because you are stronger. Why didn't you answer the above question?

    • @DIYorDIE_Off-Grid

      Hmm, do you think we would have gone through the extra hassle of pulleys and tractor if we could safely lift it ourselves?

  • @JimfromIndy

    With that setup, I doubt you need the tractor power.

    • @DIYorDIE_Off-Grid

      Yeah, this is the most simple type of setup and gives a 2-1 mechanical advantage. With more pulleys, it could certainly be done without the tractor. The problem is that the force vector is at a 45 degree angle, which means only half the force exerted on the line would lift the wall upward, while the other half would be horizontal straight into the other wall.

  • @joeclark9042

    Heck yeah out of work all you had to do was pull with your hands and it would have went up using the police that you got brother that would have been an easy pull bro good job explaining it though I like it

    • @DIYorDIE_Off-Grid

      It all depends on physics: the weight of the wall, the angle of the line, the amount of force, and the direction of force. With these walls being so top heavy due to the 2x12 headers, it is not as simple to lift by hand as everyone in the comments seems to think 😅

ICC (Utility grade studs shall not be spaced more than 16 inches (406 mm) on center, shall not support more than a roof and ceiling, and shall not exceed 8 feet (2438 mm) in height for exterior walls and load-bearing walls or 10 feet (3048 mm) for interior nonload-bearing walls.)
