    I watched this video after watching Sal’s video about Carew Tower. I subscribe to both of your channels. This building is absolutely beautiful! The observation deck is amazing. It’s really neat that you can see 3 states from there.

    Not gonna lie, I came here because of the video Sal posted today about Carew. But I'm staying because of your first-rate production and storytelling. You've got a new sub! Can't wait to binge more lol! 😊 EDIT: I grew up in Louisville, KY, but had never heard of the Carew Tower until today. The building is just BEAUTIFUL, the history fascinating, and that mall-turned-parking garage just absolutely enraptured me! Very cool to learn about some local history!

      @@UniCommProductions oh hey, thanks for the reply! Watching the Eastgate Town Center video now, and I just have to say, Sister, you have a with words! The images you describe, your metaphors, I love it all! And I learned a new word from you: kenopsia. Felt it many, many times. Never knew there was a word to describe it. Thanks for teaching me!
      As far as visiting Cinci, I've been through there, and my anxiety didn't like it one bit, lol. I'm a country girl through and through. But I'm so glad I can experience the beauty and wonder vicariously, through explorers like you! Keep up the good work!

    I grew up in cincinnati and always went to carew tower because my mom works on the observation deck. I have a lot of good memories around the building it was so much fun going down there. The only place I did not like going to was the sub basement that was the only creepy place to me. The little shuttle car that takes you almost to the deck freak me out with the noises it made. My mom is still the cashier on the observation deck but now it's close due to covid.

    Ok at the 9 minute mark when they showed the parking garage that stopped my heart . This was my teenage hang out at tower place mall . I can’t BELIEVE it’s a parking lot now 😭 don’t it always seem to go u don’t know wat u got till it’s gone . They paved paradise and out up a parking lot . That song really hits different now 😭 this is so crazy . My first job was in that mall . My first boyfriend worked in that mall . This is so crazy

      I was so shocked to see it the first time I realized that’s where it was. If you ever go in that garage, if you look down into the middle of that center opening you can see where the fountain was-there are some marks on the floor and some drain covere

    Wonderful! I am so delighted that you captured the Carew Tower and Tower Place!
    Carew Tower and the neighboring PNC Tower (previously Central Trust Bank Tower) have been featured prominently on a couple of national television shows through the decades.
    From 1956-through-1980 the downtown Cincinnati skyline stood in as the fictional city of Monticello in the opening and closing credits of the daytime TV soap opera, “The Edge of Night”.
    Both buildings were featured again on the opening and closing credits of the TV sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati” from 1978-through-1982.
    Carew Tower is simply the epitome of total class. It was constructed with meticulous detail and was designed to last, unlike today’s disposable buildings.
    Wasn’t that tiny elevator (aka: phonebooth) to the observation deck a hoot!?
    The last time I rode it there were four of us. Fortunately, we are very close friends!

    • @UniCommProductions
      @UniCommProductions  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That elevator was a tight squeeze even for two people and a messenger bag full of camera equipment. Cincinnati really does have some lovely art deco architecture; oddly enough another stunning example is the inside of the Hamilton County Domestic Court building, which was used when they filmed the movie Carol as the interior of a department store.
      Soap Operas---brought to you by Proctor and Gamble. I suppose it should surprise no one that out skyline was used in one.

    • @Mark-qw8lc
      @Mark-qw8lc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they made great use of all the varied downtown Cincinnati architectures in the movie “Carol” to represent NYC in that brief post-WWII period (1945-1953) before the glass and steel towers took over Manhattan.

    My Nana was the cashier at Carew in the parking garage in the 60’s & 70’s. She met a ton of people. Regular people, famous people, baseball players. We used to ride the car elevators up & down. It was cool.
    Hathaway’s was where we ate.

      Nah, it's just me (Kristin). :) I haven't heard that before but alas it is probably accurate. I think I remember reading the "downtown mall" in St Louis met a similar fate. It's really sad being in that garage knowing what was originally in there. Ironically, they tore it out less than a year before downtown started experiencing a revival and it may have done better now than it did in the 90s.

    I just found your vids yesterday and now I'm hooked! I worked downtown Cincy back in the late 90's and our office was adjacent to Tower Place. My co-worker and I would frequent at lunchtime (i think a Limited store if I'm not mistaken). I believe a TJ Maxx was in there sometime around the early 2000's - that was the last time I was in the Tower Place area. Thanks again for another walk down memory lane!

      Thank you for checking us out! I grew up out in the suburbs and getting to go down to Tower Place to shop was always an "event". I know that the food court held on longer than the rest of the mall because of downtown workers like you, and there have been some rumblings of wanting to open something food court-like downtown again (Downtown Dallas has something akin to a food court with no mall attached).

    I went there a few times in the ‘90s. I also remember going to McAlpin’s across 4th Street. Carew Tower is an amazing gem of architecture. It’s interesting how Cincinnati, Cleveland (Terminal Tower); and Columbus (LeVeque Tower) each have an elegant signature Tower from the 1920s.Minneapolis also has had several dead malls in their downtown, as downtown never recovered from the opening of Mall of America.

    About 2(?) years ago, I went to Cincinnati for a several day trip. I didn't go inside the Westin and Tower Place, but I did go inside Carew Tower and loved the art deco interior of that building! The observation deck was really great, as well. Fountain Square was also a nice place to sit down and relax for a little bit, as well. Didn't know there is a Big Boy restaurant, inside Carew Tower now.

      The Big Boy only opened about 6 months ago...it's by far the cleanest and most modern one I've ever been in (the ones out in the suburbs kind of thrive off their "just like when you were a kid" aesthetic which I really enjoy.) It was weird eating their food in a "trendy" environment.

    Yep! ANOTHER parking garage! Just what every city needs, right?! Endless amounts of parking spaces for businesses that do not exist!

      Downtown is blooming, if it's been a few years since you've been down there, you may be pleasantly surprised at what a vibrant place it is these days. Still sad to see the mall go, however. I think if it had made it a few years longer it would be blooming too.

    dam true about city rolling up sidewalks unlesss u were a bad person or u wanted to drink the building ws very nicely designed n my opinion insted of building new buildings maybe have some building that r there try and make them work remember crosly field for reds then they made riverfront stadium and guess wnat now great american ball park looks like it related to crosly hmm maybe people and dam enginneers need to think about past instead of all looking at future maybe make old buildings like they did shillitos into apts or condos but try not to have them cost a dam arm and leg

    That building needs a renovation bad! Too much beauty! Too much architectural detail! Paint it white!
    Actually, I guess it's alright. I'm joking, I love the old art deco buildings of the 20's and 30's. Great video and fitting music.

    It's been a few years since I've been there. It's soo far up! Now, compare that to the One World Trade Center!

    This building always reminded of the Shinning the movie.....now they (3CDC) wants to turn this majestic structure into condos ?!!! WTF thats a horrible ideal with there being no feasible retail to support such a lux life style
