This is super awesome! I dont own any of these but I ran one during a 2 day course last year and ive been on the fence on spending the money. Now that it is explained in such detail, I may have to suck it up and get one. Great content as usual. Thanks for sharing. Im already sub'd. Keep going.
Red dot vs Eotech... apples vs oranges.... they may appear similar at first glance, but perform thier functions through different technologies. If it helps, think of red dots as general purpose vs the eotech as a cqb sight. The red dot can get you reduced cost, reduced weight, increased battery life, and smaller size. The Eotech brings no forward signature, largest field of view, least parallax, a fast acquisition reticle with ranging feature, and actually performs better with magnification. It's up to you to decide if the weight or battery life are deal breakers. Just understand that the two are not quite the same tool.
It's an interesting argument to be made. The Holographic concept was likely intended to be a 'better' RDS with the hopes of better battery tech in the future as well as improvements to power consumption. The latter just never came into fruition so you still have the same tradeoffs with a good deal of performance benefits. In the military context, their battery changing schedule was robust enough where battery life didn't really matter.
I don’t think there’s a POU outside of night vision that where the Eotech would be the best choice. They are certainly neat, but the weight and battery life disqualifies it for me personally.
Weight for an RDS is a consideration but lots of military and civilian units still run Aimpoint PROs and heavier rigs. With battery life, battery changing schedule is probably the best regimen for someone who is on top of it. But if the sight needs to be put away and used at a moment's notice, I can see why a T2, a copy, or a Comp M4/M5 is more useful in terms of battery.
@@FlatlanderGear that’s true, I guess they are great if you have infrastructure, I’m a schizo always larping for a infrastructural collapse, which is why I love prisms. I also hike with my rifle more then I shoot it, so I am extra sensitive about weight haha
Of you play the CQB game then holographic sights become game changers in terms of field of view, speed, compatability with magnifier, compatability with night vision, etc. So yeah, if you are going on the offense then they are worth it.
Anyone using Eotech for shotguns, particularly for Turkey shotguns? I would like the feed back, thanks. I use red dots and beside the battery life, I lost interest in them, so either I go for Eotech , or something similar. But I needed some input before purchasing
Have you ever tried weird stuff like the meprolight with the augmented info ('foresight') and changable reticles? It's quite heavy though and of course its ugly. EDIT: And junk battery life.
I believe the 512 and 552 newer models don’t have thermal drift. The 558 and older model 512 and 552 are the one plagued by that. I believe, I may have heard wrong.
Buying direct from their site is expensive but during their sales, the discount was quite deep. I got the 552 for nearly 30% off and the used market is even better. I’m seeing them go mid $400s now on some sites. And yes NV is superior on this. Even the lowest settings on the non-NV models are acceptable for NV.
@@FlatlanderGearI've wondered how my xps2-1 and 2-0 would perform under NV on the lowest setting. It gets pretty darn low. Have you personally tried? If you respond like the comment. It's the only way I get notified. Done checked all the settings. Guess I said something idk TH-cam fuckin with my notifications
@@joshuabruce9920 most Eotech, including the 512 have daytime settings that are low enough not to bloom out or destroy tubes. The lowest daytime setting on my 552 worked very well.
Amazing content, sir. Keep up the great work!
@@declineofthewest. thank you! More will be coming soon finally.
This channel is awesome!
YOU are awesome
Loved the vid and your observations. You deserve way more subscribers and viewers. Keep up the awesome work
I really appreciate that
Love the video because I rock both 512 and 552 with Magnifiers...so thx for the love on this optic...
Glad I could bring some love to the holobox.
This video was extremely helpful where google wasn’t. Thank you. I have a 552 as well also thinking I had a 512 lol
SIGHTMARK 4 LYFE BABY!!!!!
It’s seen some field use

No problem and thank you! After using these for a bit, I understand why they are popular!

Great video Bro. You earned a new subscriber.
Nice video as usual man.
thank you boss
Waves of nostalgia with that thumbnail. Totally forgot about Lego’s mining series.
It sounds like the advantages of the Eotech easily outweigh the limited battery life. Also, love me some Rock Raiders!
Glad you spotted a classic. I always loved the game! Again, with a certain battery changing schedule, the battery life is a non-issue for now.
I've got two 512's. Love those things!
truly a classic

An Eotech would be a mighty fine hunting red dot for your shotgun.
It would have a unique and robust look.

I’m familiar with it and it’s popularity. It will be a review in the future.
Quad rail gang spotted
ya betcha
Eotech is battle proven. The poor battery life is a result of the holographic technology.
Agreed. If you have a good battery changing schedule, I see no reason to rule it out.

Those would be correct. It was more of a brand reputation thing. My 552 didn’t have any noticeable drift from 0 to 90F
The old 5 series had problems with the battery pack getting loose contacts. Mine had that and is rendered useless now. Did they fix this?
@@Robin6512 never had an issue with mine
@@FlatlanderGear ok good to hear. I had a first serie one. Still law enforcement and military only written on it.
I’ll give it a try
Unless physics change, laser diodes will never, ever be as efficient as LEDs. Nothing is as good when it comes to night vision performance though!
Agreed, I think the 552 and NV capable models use an IR LED FOR THEIR NV settings. Saves a little bit on battery life at night.
Holosun 510c is a red dot, not holo
Correct
For me, eotech is too $$ to justify it. Lpvo is similar price and more versatile. But i heard eotech has the best nv setting

The fact that you start the very first sentence by calling this a "red dot" discredits anything you're about to tell me in this video.
Thumbs Down
The center is a red dot
@@FlatlanderGear The only red dot EOTECH makes is the EFLX Mini Reflex Sight. All others are considered Holographic.
