  • This is a quick and unplanned tutorial of how to setup a Lumerical simulation to calculate the reflectance and transmittance of a periodic structure. This includes Fresnel reflection, thin films, and metasurfaces/metalenses.
    Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

    I really appreciate you! I followed all your tutorials with regards FDTD scattering problem and this videos' I have got a lot of idea about how can we simulate and design plasmonic Nano particles.

    Hello, thank you so much for your tutorial. It is easy to understand the metasurface. Could you make another video to simulate a full metalens using FDTD numerical? Thank you so much in advance!

    Hello, thank you for this tutoriel it is very helpful. How could you substract the contribution of the dielectric from the transmission graph in order to only measure the transmittance by the nanoparticle and thin film?

      I'm afraid solar cells are beyond my expertise. But what I do know is that they are usually just thin film stacks. You may not even need lumerical for that. You can easily write a Transfer Matrix Method code to do this.
      That said, I will be making a video on Transfer Matrix Method in the future!

    Hello, thank you for your very well done simulation, I have been doing simulation for few months, a question regarding the result that we get, the reflection and the transmittance. Is there a way to obtain at the end the scattering, the absorption and the extinction of the system ? if Yes could you please explain the process ?

    Why did you put the source far from the metal but in the previous video the source penetrate the radius?

    If I am not mistaking, you could have used doubled symmetric/ anti-symmetric boundary conditions to reduce the time of the simulation and still get a periodic structure?

    Hello, thank you very much for this exhaustively clear tutorial! I have a question, is it possible to set a state of polarization of an incident light and then analyze the polarization after the metasurface cell? Thanks :)

    • @computationalnanophotonics9545
      @computationalnanophotonics9545  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Of course! In the plane wave source, you can set the polarization state. In the transmission power monitor, you can analyze each component of the electric field individually. Using that, you can determine the polarization state.
      For example, if you send in x-polarized light, you can measure how much is converted to y-polarization by simply looking at the y-component of the field in the power monitor,
