Stopped by STATE TROOPERS for riding a Unicycle on the HIGHWAY

- For this year's July 4th celebration, the NYC EUC Collective embarked on a 45-mile long electric unicycle ride to Jones Beach State Park from Manhattan. The journey took us through local roads, bike paths, and the Meadowbrook State Parkway. To this day, I am honestly unsure whether taking the parkway was a navigational accident or an intentional choice, but I am 100% thankful of the 2 State Troopers who helped us that day.
The first few minutes on the parkway were uneventful, as cars were scarce and we 8 riders huddled together in one lane for safety. However, just minutes before the start of this video, 3 lanes turned into 2, and we were forced to merge into unyielding fast-moving freeway traffic. Cars soon separated the riders, forcing some to pick up speed and others to occupy the rapidly disappearing shoulder. Just when it seemed that an accident was imminent, a State Trooper patrol car that was parked in the tall grass flashed its lights and rushed onto the parkway. Were we about to get arrested, and our electric vehicles confiscated? There was nowhere to go but forward. However, it soon became clear that the Trooper had our safety as their first priority. The patrol car slowed the flow of traffic and allowed us riders to reform into a pack. The Trooper then escorted us all the way to Jones Beach, our destination. As we approached the final bend, we spotted 2 more black State Trooper vans and collectively contemplated our fate. Is this an ambush? After we explained that we didn't intend any harm and were only rushing to the beach to watch the July 4th fireworks, the Troopers became exceedingly reasonable. They warned us of the dangers of excited drivers and directed us to take the bike path next time. We thanked them for their service.
Jones Beach was exceptionally beautiful as we rode toward the sunset: the crimson of a drowsy sun spilled into the bay; hundreds of rabbits moved in waves through the vegetation; and we glided along silently. Our ride home was punctuated by fireworks that rang from all around us.

honestly, i think its bullshit that EUCs cant be on the highway but the cops were super nice and just doing there jobs.

If your vehicle isn't capable of cruising at least 5 mph above the speed limit, you shouldn't be on that road. There's nothing cool about slowing down traffic.

You probably think it's nothing, no harm done ...but don't cry when your country legislate on euc .You do everything to give a negative image to people when you should do the exact opposite. @@tonymandon9615 Actually EUC was just banned in nyc a week ago. We’re still riding like we always do. Had cops compliment my ride 2 days after the ban. If your city is not as tolerant as mine, you should work on that with your legislators or move here, because nyc riders will not mellow out any time soon. Eat a cupcake and chill out.
@@dasshorts7800 I live in a beautiful country where i ride everyday in nature. We are allowed to ride by law. I keep slowing down when i cross people path and i ride on bike lane as much as i can. Thank you but i have no desire to ride with hooligans of roads in a ugly urban environment. I just want to show you that not everyone will congratulate you on comments and think what you do is cool.

I loved my Electric Unicycle until I fell just one time. And it fking hurt. Really Really bad. After that. I rarely ride. I'm sad now.... 😔😔😔
Definitely gear up with helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, and chest & back plates if possible. And ride with people you trust. Most of my falls are triggered by tripping over other fallen riders 🤦🏻♂️. I’d also say ride your own comfort level and don’t let others goad you into a situation you’re not prepared for. Better to have a bruised ego than a bruised pelvis. And you really should be weeding out the riders who provoke you like that from your circle of friends anyway. Lastly, I’d say it’s a matter of calculated risk. You’re going to fall. All of us do. Just do your best to prepare for it.
