Corruption theory makes sense in my mind because, if you talk to doryani and follow the basic storyline of the end game, clearing out corruption is exactly what we are supposed to be doing.
I'm leaning towards corruption theory myself. I've been citadel-hunting for a few days and alternating between only looking for corrupted towers and also spending time clearing out clusters of corrupted maps. I seem to find more citadels after clearing a bunch of corrupted areas. Sometimes they'll even seem to "accumulate" and spawn several citadels in a cluster. I once had a group of 4 citadels that could all be seen on the same screen. But our problem is the atlas is so big and vague that we all individually lack enough data to draw definite conclusions. The only thing I know for sure is I have found a lot more citadels compared to other people. Could be because of my methods, luck or just because I've been grinding this game like a degenerate. We'd need a large volume of people trying out this method to really test them. It's a shame that so many community members ridiculed the effort put into this project instead of contributing to the search. I think the corpse theory unfortunately undermined the credibility of the more plausible corruption theory.
@ScienceFictionGuy001 I am going to try testing if it's completing corrupted maps or just eliminating the corruption that may cause increased citadel spawns. You can eliminate corruption very quickly by dropping a t1 waystone on it and moving on. So I'm going to try pathing through and getting access to as many corrupted maps as possible, and then simply activating them and leaving. If that spawns citadels, we know it's the act of clearing out the corruption vs completing corrupted maps.
Ok this is worthy of being in the next Frostylaroo video. Screw Riker and his drones, this is the real conspiracy shit PoE 2 enjoyers need to subscribe to.
GGG: Places a broom as a decoration cuz why not? Players: *Spends 3 days and 3 nights figuring out if the broom actually points towards a citadel or other mechanics.*
FYI: The radius ring around the tower is currently a visual bug when you use your map device in your hideout for some reason. If you click on the map device at the end of 2nd act 3 you will always see this ring around the towers :)
thanks for your contribution to the theories, dont let the haters get you down!! anyone that goes into the comments to say negative stuff is a broken human at best
I think thematically with the whole point of clearing the corruption from the atlas any theory focusing on clearing corruption would make a lot of sense in terms of progressing towards some final goal we're still unaware of in early access. Along with that, higher tier completions of areas would make sense to generate more towers/citadels if citadels require t15 or higher waystones. So just viewing it from a lore perspective and progression perspective that would make a lot of sense to me. It also makes sense to be rewarded with more towers for completing more maps so the more you invest in areas the better your future areas can become as well.
My own theory is just distance vs the starting point, similar to delve the further you get the more they spawn. A lot of my mistakes early on was just going in every single direction cause some nodes had bosses corruption etc and since going in a single direction i've noticed im getting citadels now.
@@benmorrow1701 well.. if atlas in poe2 is inspired form delve which we know it is, and delve has depth spawn rates for ruins, than players ought to investigate radial distance magnitudes of citadel spawns imo. TO BE TOTALLY HONEST, we aren't all pricks and I greatly appreciate the lengths you went through to try and prove/disprove your corruption/corpse theory on these citadels. Level 87, popped level 88 last night. Have found 4 citadels within one screen length of eachother last night, found an iron citadel then just started moving towards corruption towers fogged up nearby and uncovered 2 coppers and a a stone right near eachother.
Yes I believe the Citadels are triggered and spawned nearby depending on certain actions since Citadels can be found "hidden" half buried inside of mountains and odd terrain. If they had permanent fixed locations the devs would not place them haphazardly inside of elevated terrain obscuring their visibility. Most likely they're found by following corrupted towers since Citadels are the sources of the greatest corruption defiling the areas around them.
the corrupted towers and cleansing makes a lot of sense. After all thats what Doriani is always talking about. I have been doing this just by purely going for the +1 level a lot and i had a good number of cidatels. I will try to hone in on those
Watched your very first vid on the topic, before that I hardly found any citadel. I found your corrupt tower theory appealing, and started to follow that course, and now I'm finding multiples a day (just uncoverrd my first copper^^) Aslo reach lvl94 a couple days ago and, maybe it is related, but that lines up with the increase in spawn rate I noticed. Lastly, you got me bitten with your brooms/corpses etc since I found paying way too much attention myself to the candelabras lol (not always lighten up, sometime one only on one side etc). Anyway, keep it up man :)
Just from a pure developer perspective it would be much mean reasonable to check if all corrupted maps in a cluster of maps are completed and then spawn a citadel nearby. Also from a game design it makes sense to keep the system simple (to figure out) and engaging while traversing the atlas. So yeah, this might be it. Good stuff!
I hope you keep chasing this and fully discover how to deterministically spawn citadels before GGG get back from holiday and tells everyone how to do it.
I'm still subscribed to Corpse Theory -- I think it's related to your basic Corruption Theory. I don't think the corpses are pointing to where Citadels ARE, but where they COULD spawn -- provided you keep clearing corruption as you go, and provided you "lock in" the corpse arrangement by clicking on the tower. If you read Doryani's lore on the precursor towers, he calls them a "precursor tower network" and says that they originally were for "changing terrain and biomes." The fact that they specifically say "biomes", and Doryani follows this all up with "This is pure conjecture, of course" makes me think this is actually a big hint as to how the towers work. This is why when you restart the tower over and over, the corpse arrangement changes -- it's not pointing to what's already in the fog, but to what COULD BE in the fog. THE TOWERS MODIFY THE ATLAS. Also re: the corpses, read some of Doryani's other lore about the Corrupted people in the wastelands, and how they are "drawn to power" and are "wasting away" -- just like how the corpses on the tower are in various stages of wasting. And finally, I think the compass on the top of the tower is NOT oriented NESW with North being the pathway towards the tower that you click on. If you look at the symbol in the middle, it has the four points of a compass rose in the middle, and I am almost certain we're intended to treat NESW according to that. Anyway, thanks for chasing this stuff down and fully respect you taking your hat out of the ring for now. It's got to have been exhausting, especially only for everyone to meme on your efforts. Seems like the whole community would rather whine about Citadels being unspawnable than to actually support good-faith efforts to find a pattern to spawn them.
I kind of noticed earlier when looking that the corpses were in line with adjacent maps from a tower. Not sure if that's conclusive to every tower, but some food for thought. Basically they lined up perfectly with the path's from the tower
The community thanks you for the awesome content. 🎉🎉🎉 Congratulations, it was a lot of fun going through the rabbit hole, Thanks. Happy new year !!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Fun theories and about the best info anybody has come up with for citadels so far. A little controversy of this type isn't so bad. Keep up the good content and pretty sure you're going to keep growing.
To hell with what other people think. If they don't have a useful theory, they can shut it. PoE isn't exactly above doing complicated mechanics, and we even have a yet to be deciphered harbinger language, so maybe that's what some of the symbols are.
Man I can't place where I've seen you before, but I'm pretty sure I used to watch a decent bit of your content. Can't remember if it was LE or poe1, but anyways, giving you a sub for quality content
I found 2 stone citadels next to each other when i was level 78 and only doing t8 maps. I don't think it's level or map tier related, or I'm very lucky.
I'm higher level now than I was when I was spawning citadels, so I'm not so sure about that. I got 3 of them, but then they stopped spawning. I'm 94 now, so I should be getting more of them, but I"m not.

Man, really appreciate you sharing all this. It's a shame people are so toxic these days. I'm sure a lot of us have found your videos interesting and helpful.
I'm really sorry that you were getting negative feedback to your theories. It's very undeserved! It's all new and I don't know what people's issues are with exploring ideas surrounding these new mechanics. With how detailed so many of the other areas are with their historical references (Vaal city), why is it so out of the realm of possibility that there isn't something on the tower plaque with meaning? I enjoyed the content, and so did many others, so thank you for chasing windmills. You weren't the only one wondering about the corpses, I was looking at corpses before I saw your corpse theory video and then went on a wild chase after watching it. I was having fun with it, my husband joined me and he was having fun. It's a game, fun is supposed to be baked in. If players want to "wear tinfoil hats" and go ancient aliens then what is the problem? FYI, I'm not convinced the corpses are meaningless. There's been too many times the really odd corpses seem to line up with out of the ordinary nodes, like hideouts. I also started clearing out corruption in a set area because I wanted to see if it unlocked additional dialog. Now I'll be looking to see if there is a citadel somewhere in the fog once I'm done. I don't really care about the citadels, I just want to know if there is something cool in the fog.
I found most of my citadels when i was still a low level, below 80 and doing tier 1 and 2 maps. Now i am close to level 90 and only found 1 ever since.
If you travel to the Ziggurat refuge in act 3, look at the map device there, you can see all the circles around the towers at all times, it's just a hideout bug we can't see them
Hey man don't let the internet haters get you down! You're performing SCIENCE!! for the rest of us silent majority who appreciate you. Just sayin' you're doing God's work man.
I get the passion and the crazy theories. I have 3 characters hitting late 80s and mid 90s. Still havent seen a citadel. I'll try out corruptiin theory. Only reason you are getting hate is people are frustrated with the citadel spawn situation and want to find a pattern. You had a theory they wanted to believe and when it turned out to be false they lashed out. Keep having fun man
So for the corruption method. Is it specific in that you have to cleanse the tower first and then the maps around it? I'm not at end game yet and want to try it.
This is good and interesting. I have no idea what those other people are doing when they're constantly shooting down theories and exploration. The game is new and these games have hidden things and hints in them that lead to things so it's only natural that some try to solve patterns and find solutions. It might be nothing, it might be something. Many discredit this because the corpses are not the same but maybe the corpses are randomly generated but still correlate and point to different things, a randomly generated half corpse might still be pointing to different unique maps or Seer in many locations. We just don't know and it might be legit but people say it's not that because the corpses are not in the same position. GGG would never make the corpses the same position in all towers but they can still spawn randomly and point to things depending on corpse type.
This isnt working for me. Theres 2 days that I am going for the corrupted towers and nothing. I think my atlas is bugged, I played 220 hours and 0 citadel. I mean even If they are totally random, I should have encountered some by now…. This new atlas is horrible.
You're good man don't sweat the "criticism". Whether true or not people arn't very good at saying they think a theory is wrong. Either way you, your corpse theory, and the viewers, gamers, and streamers pulling their hair out about it have become a hilarious piece of poe history.
Your map has a good citadel seed. Any tower could have anything pointing in any direction and and you'd still lead to a citadel lol. Atlas's for different players have different seeds.
Pretty lame to hear the flack is pouring over into other videos. You gotta be pretty hurt to feel anything but amusement from all of this. Keep doing what youre doing! Following corruption ive found 5 citadels quickly before having found none! All the thanks to you!
Bruh what! People were upset or something posting nonsense about the citadels theory? WTF lmao whether it is true or not I enjoyed both videos a lot!! Thought they were great. Thanks man
Everything except the corruption angle would violate design/ux guidelines that POE is built against. For one, both brooms and bodies are not possible to view again once the tower was completed, therefore its unlikely there would be meaning in them. I think you are also overlooking some atlas mechanics - biomes. POE historically has required players to complete X amount of maps in certain area for a 'boss encounter'. You observed that running a lot of maps results in getting more citadels, so assuming they did not invent a new model for this interaction, then the question remaining is "where" did you run those maps. The fact that you towers are visible in fog of war tell me they are pre-computed, but the actual map nodes are probably computed at fog reveal. If I was a gambling man I'd bet my smidgens on interaction between "number of completed maps" and "biomes" and the "tower biome", and maybe corruption, which will affect the map node generation at fog reveal. But it is a 50/50 between that and maybe its just pure random, because to me rn it looks like endgame is missing 90% of content. If you're up to run another 1000 of maps, would be interesting if you did statistic on biomes. Also I'm kinda guessing that map tier should matter.
There is no Citadel Conspiracy, the spawn is very frequent if you go farther the map, the farther you go they spawns more frequent. This is just like delve in Poe 1 , the Aul Boss only spawn over 250 Depth Level, and is hard to find Aul Boss, but if you go over 1000 Depth Level, Aul boss is every where.(also farther distance have more variety boss and landscape)
@@Eqnotalent yeah which is easy to find. people just didn't try that much enough... they give up at the first 100 map, which is less then poe 1. POE 1 need at least runs at least 100 map to see the endgame boss.
I am pretty sure they just ripped the whole system from last epoch - so the further you are from the center the more you are gonna find . thats my tinfoil hat theory. Level could play a role too since they actually get spawned as you go not all at once. Thanks for the info and research !
Have you tried resetting your seed? One possibility is you're just in an rng "drawup"? (Or whatever the opposite of a drawdown is). Multiple seed related patterns coalescing on your portion of the map?
There are 2 camps of player regarding the atlas. 1 camp believe the atlas and all citadels is pre generated. All generated and just under fog of war. 2nd camp believe that atlas nodes and citadel is being generated as your do map and clearing towers. So in the end u got 1 camp believe is rng. And 1 camp believe citadel is being trigger or generated.
The later is very unlikely. For one, they've mentioned the map being seeded a number of times. And that's the obvious way to do it from a software development standpoint. You don't need to store any additional information besides the seed, and the rest can be generated and cached at runtime. Arguably you could add additional seed generations based on level or maps cleared or whatever else - but that's unnecessary complexity and storage for something that has to be stored server-side. I doubt any developer would even consider it.
I think them being pre-generated is very unlikely if not impossible because the atlas is infinitely expanding, pre-generating all them would literally requires extremely infinite computing resources. However, pre-generating a very large area is definitely possible.
you also shouldn't forget that spawns are not pre-generated, so possibly when you reset towers, you also reset what will spawn in the fog, and the corpses could be pointing at what and where will spawn.
@ hmm. That makes sense, in which case only the portion of corpses that point to fogged spots would change, and corpses pointing at exposed (fog-less) spots would stay the same. Not sure if players have tried to test that.
im not subbed, but it found this video, and the previous one...came to say all your theories hit for me...could be becuase im still on the quest still, but all the corrupted towers in the fog of war, lead to a citadel for me...maybe that will change once i complete the atlas quest
Corpses are directing to nearest towers, corrupted towers and citadels. Brooms are linked to the number of bosses and their type around the tower. Lvl of character does or not allows more citadels to spawn. Thats it basically it.
Highly doubt the level theory. I've been spamming t1 maps on my lvl84 deadeye for the last 3 days (~4-5h/day) and was able to spawn over 20 citadels so far, clearing citadels on my main toon (lvl94 infernalist). I was using corpses as a main indicator of what direction to progress (most of the times mummy=citadel nearby in this direction, normal body with a big scar=corrupted tower, normal body with a small scar=normal tower). Noticed that brooms in 90% of cases are similar to map boss amount around the current tower - bloody brooms = corrupted map bosses, clean brooms = normal bosses. Still don't know if it's a coincidence, luck or just running alot of maps just makes your citadels spawn. Putting a tinfoil hat just in case.
Doesn't your account share the atlas, so your main hit 94 so you unlocked the ability to spawn citadels, so your other character was allowed to unlock them following some other theory.
Corruption theory makes sense in my mind because, if you talk to doryani and follow the basic storyline of the end game, clearing out corruption is exactly what we are supposed to be doing.

Following the corrupted towers theory one is working like a charm for me.
Happy new years dude, cheers!
Yes, it really works!
one thing to note about chasing corrupted towers is it's likely to lead you out away from spawn more quickly. just a thought
Noticed the black statues on the tower tops? Seems like theres always one side with 3 statues. Could that be north? Any thoughts?
I found most of my citadels when i was still a low level, below 80 and doing tier 1 and 2 maps. Now i am close to level 90 and only found 1 ever since.
Irradiated tablet make the radius appear around the towers? (Not bug I thought).
If you travel to the Ziggurat refuge in act 3, look at the map device there, you can see all the circles around the towers at all times, it's just a hideout bug we can't see them
Im clearing corrupted areas and clearing corrupted towers and its kinda working for me!
Hey man don't let the internet haters get you down! You're performing SCIENCE!! for the rest of us silent majority who appreciate you. Just sayin' you're doing God's work man.
it's broom league guys
I get the passion and the crazy theories. I have 3 characters hitting late 80s and mid 90s. Still havent seen a citadel. I'll try out corruptiin theory.
Only reason you are getting hate is people are frustrated with the citadel spawn situation and want to find a pattern. You had a theory they wanted to believe and when it turned out to be false they lashed out. Keep having fun man
So for the corruption method. Is it specific in that you have to cleanse the tower first and then the maps around it? I'm not at end game yet and want to try it.
I know it's hard but try to ignore the haters, your content is really good and you are certainly not clickbaiting
Thanks . Happy new year and keep going
FWIW I found my first citadel at 89 (highest character I've had at that point), following your corruption theory from the previous video.
It is sad that people are making a bad mood for you for no reason. I think it was interesting and funny. Good luck!
good job man, I want to believe in the corpses!!
This isnt working for me. Theres 2 days that I am going for the corrupted towers and nothing. I think my atlas is bugged, I played 220 hours and 0 citadel. I mean even If they are totally random, I should have encountered some by now…. This new atlas is horrible.
Never Stop Counting Brooms
Have you tested if the skeletons symbolize dead ends in the map?
brooms is the last key...we belive in you!!!
What if the numbers were atlas coordinates though? :D
You're good man don't sweat the "criticism". Whether true or not people arn't very good at saying they think a theory is wrong.
Either way you, your corpse theory, and the viewers, gamers, and streamers pulling their hair out about it have become a hilarious piece of poe history.
Lmao , nice touch with the music
Thanks man
i think ur right with clearing corruption tower and using 15 waystone each tower i clear..
Broom theory is real. I believe it could be at least ❤ subned looking forward to more content, youre chill
But delve is harder as you get lower. This you can just spam lvl1 maps with
@@Eqnotalent yeah which is easy to find. people just didn't try that much enough... they give up at the first 100 map, which is less then poe 1. POE 1 need at least runs at least 100 map to see the endgame boss.
Meanwhile D4 still doesn't have a cow level 😂
Great video
I am pretty sure they just ripped the whole system from last epoch - so the further you are from the center the more you are gonna find . thats my tinfoil hat theory. Level could play a role too since they actually get spawned as you go not all at once. Thanks for the info and research !
man could be making so much div
Love the content brother keep it up man
Have you tried resetting your seed? One possibility is you're just in an rng "drawup"? (Or whatever the opposite of a drawdown is). Multiple seed related patterns coalescing on your portion of the map?
hang on something i need confirmed, are you also putting tier 1 maps into the towers?
However, pre-generating a very large area is definitely possible.
happy new year dude
I mean, other players have confirmed that the corpse patterns change if u run the same map twice (die and put a new map). Luck happens.
you also shouldn't forget that spawns are not pre-generated, so possibly when you reset towers, you also reset what will spawn in the fog, and the corpses could be pointing at what and where will spawn.
@ hmm. That makes sense, in which case only the portion of corpses that point to fogged spots would change, and corpses pointing at exposed (fog-less) spots would stay the same. Not sure if players have tried to test that.
Im level 92 and have not seen any, that very well may be a real thing.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN?!?!?!
im not subbed, but it found this video, and the previous one...came to say all your theories hit for me...could be becuase im still on the quest still, but all the corrupted towers in the fog of war, lead to a citadel for me...maybe that will change once i complete the atlas quest
all love baby
the number of citadels you have though.... doing something right. keep going man, very interesting stuff
tldr?
Corpses are directing to nearest towers, corrupted towers and citadels. Brooms are linked to the number of bosses and their type around the tower. Lvl of character does or not allows more citadels to spawn. Thats it basically it.
What are you talking about when you say corrupted maps? I’m lvl 95 and had no idea there were “corrupted areas” with higher xp and map level smh.
I must just be getting unlucky then. I'm 92 and can't get any to spawn to save my life.
Doesn't your account share the atlas, so your main hit 94 so you unlocked the ability to spawn citadels, so your other character was allowed to unlock them following some other theory.
@@itsmymillertime182 Ohhhhh.... God I hope you're right and I'm not just a complete idiot that can't do this to save my life.
love it how some streamers didn`t get it the first time and tryied to shit on this strat ...
